ENOUGH IS ENOUGH:
No, I didn’t watch the Witnesses’ annual meeting but read about it here and on Reddit.
Unless I missed something, I don’t believe I read anything about the recent hurricane mentioned and the people impacted!
i was wondering if any on here watched the meeting and if so was anything mentioned about the disaster in the path of helene and the suffering of those people ( included jw ) just curious.

can i call you friends, i think so after 23 years posting here.
i am dismayed how jwn is being "dominated" or taken over by a few posters, peppering the comments.
in the past, the admin did not approve of this and did remove some posters from jwn.
Hi BLONDIE:
I agree with you there. I am here 20 years as opposed to your 23. I can’t believe it has been that long.
I see what you mean about the few posters dominating everything with quotes galore, etc. and others jumping on the bandwagon thinking it’s a competition about who can post the most quotes 🙄.. You are certainly more of a bible (or Witness) scholar than I ever was and I post mostly about my negative experiences in the Witness religion.
This is supposed to be a Discussion forum. Everybody’s experience is unique to them. But, what we are seeing here (far too much) are people who are presuming to educate everybody with all their quotes and cut and paste… Sometimes a quote may be warranted in a discussion but this is going overboard.
Maybe people need to hear it again that when a post is TOO long and filled with quotes and cut and paste people are likely not going to read it.
i have obtained the live link for the annual meeting tomorrow:.
annual meeting live link.
the meeting will begin at 9:45am eastern time, for those of us in the uk, that will be 2:45pm.
I just read a thread on ex-JW Reddit entitled “Stop Waiting for Changes”.
The OP acknowledged that many are concerned about family still in and how changes will affect them, etc. But, they were mostly addressing ex-JWs and how they shouldn’t be hanging on every word coming from the religion and how they should get on with their lives. They think that some have never broken free from the religion in their minds anyway.. There were some indignant answers.
Probably most of us are long out (I certainly am) and it shouldn’t make any difference what the Jehovah’s Witness religion does or does not do.. It is just plain curiosity.. Don’t know about anybody else but I don’t need any ‘validation’ for having walked away years ago. But, when the religion took away the counting of hours with time sheets at the 2023 annual meeting - I was shocked. Never expected that. But was certainly relieved to have held onto my job all those years ago!!

JWGONEBAD & BETH SARIM:
To be honest, I didn’t really expect to read about any big changes at this 2024 annual meeting.
The annual meeting last year had enough serious changes that people in the religion are still reeling from.. To add any more now would send more Witnesses stampeding towards the door. They don’t want to lose everybody do they? So, they are playing it cool. But, I wonder if them adding those two new GB members might mean that somebody’s going to have to go(?)
It will be interesting to see what happens but even if they did nothing..the older die-hard JWs in congregations all over are decreasing with time!
is there any independently verified evidence that a miracle worker called jesus existed and did the things that the bible said he did?.
the four gospels were written by unknown authors many decades after the so called events, so can't be considered as eyewitness accounts.
i think that there may have been a apocalyptic preacher who was executed by the romans and the story evolved from their.
TOUCHOFGREY:
I believe Jesus Christ was a historical person. Maybe my opinion is colored by my Roman Catholic upbringing.
There is a mixed bag of people on the forum: you have Witnesses, ex-Witnesses and everybody in between. Some angry, some not angry. Some pro-Bible, some anti-bible..Some ex-Witnesses are religious; some avowed atheists or agnostics.
Whether anybody accepts or wants to believe Jesus was the savior or in any way divine is entirely up to them. For those who insist he never existed, whatever.
not sure if anyone really remembers this case, it was huge at the time.
the very interesting point though about this was that at the time the parents were known to be very active in the jw religion.
i also believe that the father may have been an elder(i could be mistaken, though).
DROPOFFYOURKEYLEE:
Yes, there was a shocking case of the two sons who killed their JW parents (German sounding name) but I wonder if it was in the PA area.
... is just three weeks from this saturday.
the org has been tight-lipped, really, successfully secret about advance info on these in recent years,.
now that these relatively recent changes on dress and grooming, reporting fs time, judicial matters, etc.
GRANDFATHERED:
Welcome to the forum.
ILOOWY.GOOWY:
I agree that the JW religion has turned people off from following Jesus as the way to salvation. But, I’m not certain where the religion is headed with this(?) as there were strange things I was reading over the months! (strange song introduced..) I could be mistaken but stay tuned.
You are also right about people using up the best years of their lives. They served the religion and some have ended up destitute following very bad advice about not getting careers or planning for retirement. I personally experienced this pressure years ago as a young working person and am glad now that I never listened.. This should be a cautionary tale for everybody!
putting this under beliefs, doctrine and practices because i don't see a better heading.
here is what i have been thinking for years now and the situation with the recent storms and the devastation brings in closer to home in my thinking.
i lived in western nc for 20 years and moved to wv in feb of this year.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH:
You are right when you say “they really can’t talk about it or question that which is presented ….”
I was discussing all the changes in the religion last year with a couple of JWs I keep in touch with. The change that shocked me was the dropping of counting of time with the slip. Obviously, this was not a biblical teaching and was probably somebody’s opinion. But, I was judged over this years ago because I worked full time and was that ‘low hour publisher’.
I said that I was glad I never listened all those years ago and ‘what would have happened to me if I did’? Etc.. They were a little offended and it was then I realized that too many Witnesses think the religion is ‘right’ even when it is wrong!
i wanted to share with you a letter that is circulating in some spanish-speaking congregations.
it is about the covid-19 vaccine and the governing body.
there is an english translation that i got today and i put it in the links.
ILOOWY.GOOWY:
’Never heard of an elder asking to see an inoculation card’.🤣
It’s a good thing I am a longtime ‘Fader’ who has been out of the Witness religion for ages. I think they overstepped their boundaries getting involved with something like this.
As it happens I did not get the Covid shot.. I know some JWs who did get it and are regretting it.

ENOUGHISENOUGH:
I certainly understand your rant about the stupidity of the rank & file Jehovah’s Witnesses.
They are not just stupid but are also complicit, in my opinion. As, It is THEY who carry out shunning and other evils in the religion at the direction of the leaders.. It was the rank & file Witnesses who made sure I was shunned and not invited years ago when I was a young working woman in the congregation.
I am retired now but I have no pity for any rank & file JW who didn’t work to plan for their future.. They are just fools as your post describes - only they are old fools. And everybody knows there’s no fool like an old fool.
I’m Glad I got out of the religion ages ago.
