JWN, 23 years posting Blondie

Can I call you friends, I think so after 23 years posting here. I am dismayed how JWN is being "dominated" or taken over by a few posters, peppering the comments. In the past, the admin did not approve of this and did remove some posters from JWN. Also, long comments quoting from many bible scholars of the past, many who did not agree with other scholars, makes the post unclear to those who don't rely on the scholars to support their ideas and some times getting into a competition of who is right, never coming to a conclusion. The ex-jws that came here, do not see themselves as bible scholars, but trying to keep their comments more brief and to the point. Some old-timers on here also see the change and manner of posts. We are here partly to help people trying to leave the WTS, clarify or more correctly "confirm" their observations with personal experiences and questions of the intent behind the WTS ever-changing doctrines and policies. I wish Simon could again take a closer at the posts. Just my observation after 23 years of participation on JWN, Love, Blondie, your friend.

    Hi BLONDIE:

I agree with you there. I am here 20 years as opposed to your 23. I can’t believe it has been that long.

I see what you mean about the few posters dominating everything with quotes galore, etc. and others jumping on the bandwagon thinking it’s a competition about who can post the most quotes 🙄.. You are certainly more of a bible (or Witness) scholar than I ever was and I post mostly about my negative experiences in the Witness religion.

This is supposed to be a Discussion forum. Everybody’s experience is unique to them. But, what we are seeing here (far too much) are people who are presuming to educate everybody with all their quotes and cut and paste… Sometimes a quote may be warranted in a discussion but this is going overboard.

Maybe people need to hear it again that when a post is TOO long and filled with quotes and cut and paste people are likely not going to read it.

Hear, hear Blondie. You've expressed the concerns I've also had for a while. A handful of fundamentalists bent on proving some theological point or other (as if it matters).

Imagine a doubting JW coming here for the first time and seeing that. What a complete lack of awareness.

Not sure what the answer is, I totally understand Simon not investing so much of his time here after a quarter century of dealing with it all

Perhaps we should all get involved in those threads to bang a few heads together?

I remember the old posts that Leolalia used to make. They were long but they were her own research and her own words. They were definitely worth reading.

However, these long quoted from someone else's work are best shared through a link, frankly, I Don't read the whole post if It's more than a few paragraphs if it seems people are just throwing information out.

To me such long quote posting smacks of someone who lacks reasoning skills and who doesn't want to spend the time discussing anything.

Blondie, You took the words right out of my mouth, well, keyboard.

These few posters should PM each other and leave the rest of us alone. It is negatively impacting JWN.

If this board was like it is now when I stumbled across it 12 years ago I might still be an inactive JW never learning TTATT. Simply withdrawing from Watchtower is not enough to rid ourselves of the Fear Obligation and Guilt associated with it.

It is a shame to see some have left one cult simply to join another, be it religious or Political.

Hi Blondie, I have enjoyed reading your post's ever since I joined.

For me, I noticed a change particularly when Trump was elected. The politics of the day were divisive and were debated at length here. Covid was another big non-jw issue that sparked a few heated debates.

There has always been the rogue apologist/ fundamentalist/ prophet that turns up from time to time to make life interesting.

Having said that, I think this forum still contains a lot of helpful people and of course, the reference material here would be hard to beat for anyone looking for answers. And yes, call me friend. 😀

As for Simon - our Canadian Overlord, I got the impression a few years ago he was happy to have some other topics discussed besides events pertaining to the JW world.👍

Sadly I must agree with Blondie's comments too.

This place (as I understood it to be) was basically a forum for recovering Jehovah's Witnesses. A place where one could vent and feel free to ask questions once again. But all too often these days, more than a few posters have become highly aggressive when their particular views were not accepted. Others (people who I wager have never been Witnesses) have used this platform to directly and clearly 'witness' to a large audience. Still others have made this place an American centric, socio-polical fight club, to constantly rehash conspiracy theories, that non-Americians see as quite childish.

All this is what I wanted to leave behind ... and quiet frankly, I think is discouraging newer members from participating.
