What do they mean by "a measure of faith"?????
It basically means "Okay that's a good start, but now to prove your faith properly you really need to be out there knocking on doors for us."

Creatiolution. This could be the answer.
by Spectrum inthis is a continuation of a discussion i've had with abaddon.
we were at loggerheads in the beginning but i'm coming round to his way of thinking to a certain extent.
i still haven't given up my belief in an intelligent creator but at the same time there is evidence for evolution which cannot be discounted.

I just watched an interesting video presentation by Dr. Bruce Lipton ("The New Biology") in which he shows how cells have the capability of selecting which of their genes will be put into action based on either their own perception of the outside environment or signals from the brain, and if necessary they are able to actually re-write their own DNA to suit the environment. The basic upshot was that genes and DNA are directly altered by perception, belief, and environmental factors - and that evolution (if indeed it happened that way) is anything other than a random process.

Who's name are Christians persecuted for?
by NowImFree ini have had the following realization before, but it just hit me again last night.
i am reading this book called daughters of hope, it is about christians being persecuted around the world and their stories.
in reading this book last night, it hit me again, all these people were being persecuted and killed for the name of jesus, not jehovah.

You're not the only one. I never really thought about that either, until you pointed it out just now. An interesting thought. If someone were out to persecute followers of Jesus, I wouldn't think JWs would be at the top of their hit list. Most people probably don't even realize that JWs are a Christian denomination to begin with.

JUST HOW GULLIBLE ARE YOU? DO YOU LIKE IT THAT WAY?
by Terry infool me once; shame on you.... fool me twice; shame on me.. we've all heard that one before.
it implies that being fooled is everybody's susceptibility until more facts are presented which enable more critical thinking.. critical thinking is something you aren't born with.
it takes lots of practice.. and anything humans want to learn requires many tries.

Yeah, I think I tend to be too trusting of others sometimes. When someone scams me though, I choose to see it as THEIR character flaw and not mine.
Like AlmostAtheist, I'm gradually learning to read between the lines and not confuse stated reasons with actual motivation.

The Artist Formerly Known As Prince also did a version of this song, but it seems to have been removed from the site.

Jesus condemns the wt
by Satanus injws always throw the challenge that no other religions preach door to door.
however, they forget what jesus said about feeding and clothing poor people.
many churches give away food, clothes, fridges, stoves, vouchers.
-

Since the wt does not do this, discourages members from doing it, and criticises churches for doing it, what would jesus say to them?
But they do encourage it, very much so... as long as the phrase "the least of these my brothers" is taken as a reference to themselves.

Yeah, it always amazed me how they could look at two similar modern customs with pagan origins and say that one ist verboten because it once had false reigious significance and isn't commanded in the Bible, and then declare the other to be okay because it no longer has false religious significance and the Bible doesn't forbid it specifically.

Watchtower will NOT accept legal responsibility
by VM44 ini posted this in another thread, but this comment from the watchtower deserves a thread of its own.
here is what the watchotwer wrote back in 1952 concerning legal liability and vaccinations.
i am sure they feel the same today, the watchtower will not assume legal liability for any misrepresentation it has made concerning blood transfusions.

Note that they didn't say they couldn't be drawn into it legally or be held responsible, only that they can't afford it.

i'll answer that--no!

This better not be like that trick they play at the assemblies where they hint for three days that there will be an important announcement of earth-shattering significance at the end, and then it turns out they're just releasing a new pamphlet.
