I believe it refers to the unnatural act of dressing in a suit in the middle of summer and bothering people on a Saturday morning.

Would there be more JWs if the internet did not exist?
by cultswatter inlets face it, the jws have a virus and they are eager to spread it.
the internet innoculates the world against the jw virus.
a) would there be more jws today if the internet did not exist??

why 81 ?? 80 would be more reasonable!
It's actually 80.5 - one of them is sitting on the fence and attending occasionally, but still has some nagging doubts thanks to the internet.

Always vote for the one that got the least favourable press coverage.

I remember getting my first $20 fine for not voting... I wrote out an explanation with scripture citations about how as a JW I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and will not support any earthly government although I will abide by their laws, etc, and they accepted that in lieu of payment. The next election came about the time I was starting to get discouraged with the JWs - I just couldn't summon the mental energy to write that stuff again, so I paid the fine.

A rhetorical analysis of the Sept. KM Question Box
by Leolaia insome have pursued an independent group study of biblical hebrew and greek so as to analyze the accuracy of the new world translation.
they have also held conferences and produced publications to present their findings and to supplement what is provided at our christian meetings and through our literature.. throughout the earth, jehovah's people are receiving ample spiritual instruction and encouragement at congregation meetings, assemblies, and conventions, as well as through the publications of jehovah's organization.
rather, the claim is implicit.

Ooooo... look at all the pretty colours!
A well written analysis! It's amazing how finely crafted their writing really is, and how much extra information is implied and assumed. Once you understand these techniques, the real message becomes so transparent. But explaining these concepts to someone who just doesn't want to know... like talking to a wall.
I've always been fascinated by their use of pronouns, as you pointed out. When their intent is to instruct the reader, they never just state it directly. They have to either make it sound like they are talking about someone else ("Jehovah's people are receiving ample spiritual instruction...") or they put themselves amongst the readers ("Surely we are grateful..."). I often wonder how many people would swallow it if they gave the exact same message in the form of direct statements as they are intended to be understood:
QUESTION BOX
Do we endorse you meeting together in independent groups to engage in Scriptural research or debate? –Matt. 24:45, 47.
No, we do not. And yet, in various parts of the world, a few of you have formed groups to do independent research on Bible-related subjects. Some of you have pursued an independent group study of Biblical Hebrew and Greek so as to analyze the accuracy of the New World Translation. Others of you explore scientific subjects related to the Bible. You have created Web sites and chat rooms for the purpose of exchanging and debating your views. You have also held conferences and produced publications to present your findings and to supplement what is provided at our Christian meetings and through our literature.
... and so on.

Funny how nobody mentioned Acts 17 where the Bereans are described as "more noble-minded" because they did their own research to see if Paul's message was correct.

I was just thinking of starting a thread on this very topic myself. I've never really understood the concept of "worship". I thought I did. But it's one of those words that we use all the time and never really stop to think about what it actually means. And when you do stop for a second to think about it, it starts to seem really absurd.
Every JW knows that the Kingdom Hall is their place of worship, they go there in order to worship God, they worship three times a week, in fact they are the only true worshippers, etc. What does it actually mean though? If you were to ask one of them to draw a picture of a JW who is in the act of worshipping God alongside one who is not, what would be the difference?

Is a JW "discount" legal?
by Open mind indragon lady's thread on do-it-yourself lemonade got me thinking about the dubs and "pioneer discounts" and such.
my first thought was, what if an ex-jw had a business that included a "jw surcharge"?
of course, the dubs wouldn't go, but some folks might patronize them for their anti-jw stance.

In Sydney there's an ice skating rink that used to let JWs in for half price (maybe they still do). JW kids were just the sort of docile customers they wanted, so they gave them a special password which got around all the congregations by word of mouth. All you had to do was quote the secret word while paying.

Need a scan
by cultswatter incould someone(atlantis?
) please scan the waterfalls image on page 93 of the live forever book.. tips.
1. if you are using scanner software then select the waterfalls image only(makes for a smaller file size).

Can you resend the file at 300DPI. In this way I can filter out the morie pattern
That's not a moire pattern, that's the image halftoning. You can filter it out by applying a gaussian blur with a 2.0 pixel radius. If I scan at a lower resolution, it only increases the chance of getting a moire pattern (a conflict between the halftoning and the scanner sampling resolution) which is even more difficult to remove.
How did you do that? was that done with layers in photoshop then changing the opacity of the top layer then merging layers???
Yes, it was just a transparent layer over the top.
I see nothing...and what its that object on the pic? It looks like a negative strip or ruler or something. Why is it there?
Sorry, it was just a lame attempt at humour. It's a RAM chip (of the computer variety).

Wow... I never noticed that before, but the RAM is definitely there:

It's a 2GB DDR2, if I'm not mistaken. My God, that's just perverse, what sort of sick messages are these people sending?
Mwaaahahahahaha!! Okay, now that I've had my little joke, here's a proper scan by way of apology. It's 16.6MB, TIF format, 600dpi, unprocessed. There's a little bit of text showing through from the reverse side, but this is the best I can do right now: http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=1681887ec26581752c08bf74d17ad002
