  Field Service question

  i live in one of the biggest cities in the us.

  i have not observed as many jws in field service as i did when i was growing up.

  within the last 10 years i used to see spanish speaking witnesses in my former neighborhood.

  I've heard stories about people taking long drives to witness in remote rural areas - but making sure to do one local return visit before and after, so all the travel time can be counted.

  Funniest JW memory?

  perhaps something that happened in fs, the memorial, convention etc.

  i need a laugh.

  last year at the memorial, an old brother was so shaky in the hands, when he passed the wine it spilled all over him.

  Funniest memory is when I was about 10 years old, and I sometimes still recall it and smirk slightly.

  An elder is delivering a talk and reads Luke 21:1-4 - which reads " Now as he looked up he saw the rich dropping their gifts into the treasury chests...."

  He says: " Now as he looked up he saw the rich droppings..."

  He realizes what he has just said.

  Starts to laugh. Turns red.

  Completely loses it.

  Stands there, giggling for about a minute.

  "I'm sorry, brothers, I'm really..."

  "Okay..."

  (continues with talk)

  A former CO elder wants to speak with me. What do you guys make of this?

  a former co elder visited my grandmother, who studied years ago with jws, and said he wanted to speak with me.

  i da'd myself about two years ago from the org after 11 years.

  i was an ms and pioneer for 8 years and the whole bit.

  1984 WT cover -- Watchtower's Final Failed Prediction?

  the infamous cover of that 1984 watchtower (27 years ago) was perhaps the last prediction / prophecy of the watchtower society.

  will there be any more or have they finally learned their lesson?

  some think they are like a race-track junkie and are addicted to predictions.

  watch 1974 p.167 "by disobediently overindulging in food and making a glutton of himself, he fails to show love for jehovah...if in the presence of others does he selfishly ignore there needs and take more than his share?

  is he grossly overwieght but shows no restraint at all as to food, habitually gorging himself?

  does he feel un-comfortable, perhaps even sick because of eating too much ...glutton has no place in god's congregation...they will not inherit god's kingdom...".

  How to secretly record an elders meeting?

  one in which you are present, as if only one party is aware or doing it, it's legal.

  is there a fairly inexpensive device can buy which either in a pocket or somewhere discreet can get a good recording of up to 2 - 3 hours?

  I've got one of those video pens, they're great. You can have it in your shirt pocket pointed directly at them the whole time, and they won't even give it a second glance.

  Question About Breast Photographs

  please, please, please don't make this thread go bad.

  i have a fairly serious but gently light-hearted question.. i am on my out the door to meet a friend for consultion with a surgeon who specializes in breast surgery.

  the reason for the consultation is that breast mri and biopsy shows possible cancerous lesions.

  It's not a weird idea at all. I remember reading somewhere that actress Christina Applegate did a private photo shoot before having both breasts removed due to cancer, just to have some sort of memory of them.

  Why do I suddenly get stupid when the elders talk to me

  does anyone else have the same problem.

  when i'm alone, i am constantly thinking about all the clever things i'm going to say if visited by the elders, but when i actually get confronted, these things never come to mind, and i keep spitting out drivel like some dumb idiot.

  after they leave, i rethink the conversation, and i'm furious over all the oppotunities i've missed to put them in their place.......damn it!!!!!

  In my case, I know exactly what I want to say but I can't get it out because I know it will cause offence. I think the trick is to quit worrying about what they think of you.
