WHAT was the nicest compliment anybody ever paid you? What did they say?
by Terry inwhen i was about 16 i had a terrible crush on an older lady (she might have been 30) who was the lovliest person ever.
she had poise, confidence, intelligence, wit, appreciation and culture.
i was just a skinny, shy, geeky kid that she took under her wing.

I've had many memorable compliments, all of them I really needed to hear at the time it was said.
My first was my kindergarden teacher- She said, "I wish you were my little girl".
My sister said, "You're going to be something someday".
Some guy waiting in my family doctors office, "Whoa.. I've seen the light". hahaha
Sandy, a guy who used to come into visit our art store, "You are really something, you are great, ***** is a lucky guy to have you".
There's more, but it's late and I'm going to bed.

This was great!
I think this is more about not letting people walk all over you, instead of being mean to people. Good thread!

I guess I really don't think that I will get any social security. (I don't have a positive view of the BUSH future) I protested against Bush and was at a Kerry rally. I had my signs stolen twice out of our yard, until I hung up signs saying that - Choice is freedom- Stop stealing my signs you fascist- Help make America fascist, steal this sign. After that, it stopped my sign stealing problem.
But it said mine would go down 21%.

Were you allowed to play sports?
by love11 ini was never allowed to play sports, because it would be too much association with worldly people.
no skating, dance class, racquet ball, softball, nothing.
in my kingdom hall, only the "spiritually weak" played sports.

I didn't, but I could have if I wanted to. I went to High School in the 60's and most of my JW friends participated in sports or other class government. Some were cheerleaders. I was my class Historian.
I know men, who are elders now, who played basketball, football, baseball and were class officers in school.............back then. Sure scarred them didn't it?
We had a brother in our congregation when I was about 10-12, who was attending the University of Washington. He was voted the Student Body President. After he graduated, he pioneered, then hewent to Gilead and was sent to Spain where he served for many years as the Branch Coordinator there. His name was John Kurtz, and he passed away about 3 years ago. Things were really different back then.
Wow, things really were different back then. We were never allowed to be in school politics. It was because of the whole- Don't be a part of the world- speech. I wanted to join the theater club and choir sooo bad. I gave the excuse that it could help me at the kh in giving talks and singing at the meetings. They didn't buy it. Then I wanted to learn piano, (I said it was to play at the hall) but no. At our high school we had a skill center course where we could learn career related skills. I wanted to take flower decoration- but no because Jehovah wouldn't want me to do holiday arrangements. So then I wanted to get computer knowledge, but no because there wouldn't be any need for computers in the paradise. Then I wanted to sign up for Drafting because I always liked beautiful architechture, but no because I would be spending most of my day with boys and the jw's might think I was gay. I did not want to take Banking and Finance, I hated the thought of it. So that's what my parents signed me up for because they found out that 10-key punch operators were needed at Bethel. AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I can really breathe. Now I can be me.

Good for you IP!!!! I wanted to go to college sooo bad. Of course, the girls in the cong. were told it was worldly to go, but alot of the boys in the cong. went. I thought it was funny that the very elders who said not to go to college were doctors and lawyers- all college careers. My girlfriends married young and did what a "good" wife does- stay at home. Now they are struggling single moms on welfare.
I used to play crochet in my backyard with my little sister. hahahaha

Only worship, honor, or admire who you choose!
Not out of guilt, parents viewpoint, or force, but out of your own true choice.

Personality Wise----Are You THAT Much Different Since Leaving The "Truth"?
by minimus ini believe that most people are what they are----whether they were jws or are exes.
for example, if you were a basically happy go lucky person in the hall, you probably have that same nature now.
conversely, if you were accused of always complaining and being miserable then, you probably still bitch and moan now.

As different as night and day.
I was raised into it and not allowed to be my own person. After leaving it, I became the person I was always meant to be.

I don't think you can be publicly reproved for this though since it is not a disfellowshipping offense. I can see a special needs talk being given about the subject without mentioning the person by name, marking them.
There could have been more to his situation that he was not disclosing to me, but that's the answer I got. Also, after his name was read the talk was about the danger in playing sports. They compared it to being in the Greek Olympics and how the sports had pagan origins.
