Here in the UK - a £3 fee charged for going to JW assembly hall
by James_Slash ini cannot speak for other countries, but it has become evident of late that more and more talks are being done by presiding overseers at kh's (especially in the west midlands) and they are making it quite clear that they are expecting 3 from every publisher (per day) who visit the dudley assembly hall, west midlands to contribute towards the upkeep of it.. the quote from the po's who have done this talk have said that "it is expected that each publisher will put 3 into the box on each day".. what do you think of that then?
as the world hits an economic breakdown the jw's seem to maximising their income from struggling families.. dudley assembly hall holds about 600-700 people.
i'm sure people are capable of doing the maths.. so much for voluntary contributions !!

The Powerful Trend No One Comments On
by metatron ini happen to work with a number of 20 - 30 year olds and i am stunned by the overwhelming social/tech trend that has emerged among them:.
the obsessive - minute to minute use of electronic devices (i. e. 'smartphones, i phones, and the like').
these people are so intensely addicted that they can't stay away for more than a few minutes and keep using them during critical functions at work.

Tax Subsidizing the American Consumer
by watson init's interesting to me how much of our taxes go to subsidizing the great american consumer.
(me included).. i detuct for mortgage interest on my first home, and if i buy a second home or anything that resembles a second home, i can deduct the interest on that as well.
if i can afford a second home, recreational vehicle, etc., why would i be given a tax break?.

So basically what is being said is that we will need to cut services, etc., so that I (the consumer) can buy more 2nd homes? I have been looking at my personal financial situation and I can honestly say that whether or not I can deduct the interest on a second home or recreational vehicle isn't going to keep me from buying it. Seems like a small sacrafice. I wonder what effect removing this 2nd deduction would have on us.
I know one thing, that deduction really helped the big housing boom, that's for sure. How's that going, anyway?

Do you feel that we can pull our future generations out of this hole, but cutting spending? Isn't NOT allowing tax deductions on optional "conumer" benefits a way to cut spending?

It's Really Just a Social Club
by Eiben Scrood inat least for many..... i remember looking around at meetings and so many in the audience seemed to be in another world.
people would get up and talk at the back shamelessly.
meetings were a good opportunity to make plans with friends.

For me though, even as I went through some years just like them, plodding along with the program, when I finally started reaching out, exerting myself to do what I thought was necessary to be faithful, that's when it started to unravel. It was when I actually took it serious and tried to separate myself from the pretenders that I saw through it. It didn't stand up to the test.
Undercover, this is an important comment. Almost exactly what happened to me, and many, many others, I suspect.
