is it permissible for jws to visit the graves of their loved ones if they merely want a moment's reflection on the departed?.
is it permissible for jws to do this on the anniversary of the death?.
It is all about doing enough for Jehovah so they might make it into the New System.
I see what you are saying, but I view this a little differently. After the 2nd generation, I think with most, it's about the "tradition/culture." Just like any other family religion.
i work nights so when i get off i'll run by walmart to grab something to make for breakfast or just if i need something or whatever.
this morning at 6:55 (i know because i looked at my watch) a little black girl maybe 7 years old came up to me by herself to offer me a tract... i mean come on it's still full freaking dark out and this poor little kid is handing out tracts alone.

i've only posted since feb 07..but i have lurked for several years prior and there was usually something interesting on the board.
as i was reading the active topics list this morning, only a couple things jumped out at me as interesting...its been this way since the dgate and tgate incidents.... i was discussing this with a long time poster via im yesterday....does it seem to anyone else that so many of the topics are ...i dont know....odd...or different than they used to be...and i dont mean that in a good way.. i miss the newbies coming on and telling us their stories.... i miss the long time posters updating us on their lives post-borg... i guess with the recent uproar, the lurkers are hesitant to become newbies (cant say as i blame them now...we probably scared them off , and maybe the vets are just as hesitant...after all, someone went 2 years with their fraud/hoax...who will believe anyone else now?
i hope this is just a temporary cycle on this board..i have read many many posts from the archives...i hope one day soon we can get back to a happy medium here.. by the way, i like the fluff threads, but these seem to be more and more sex related (maybe that word will wake someone)... yet they get all the attention....and then someone goes too far and it gets locked down by a mod and the poster restricted......(i am not a prude...just sometimes enough is enough).
I will confess that I take silly stabs at the "sex" threads, but my favorites are the "New Light" threads. I love the faux excitement/anticipation. The light to hard sarcasm, all of it warms my heart.

To me it comes down to the common background we all share. For most, it is very deep. Whether we "know" each other or not, we can relate.
(I used to brag about, "anywhere we go in the world, we share the same truths, practices, etc....wow)
i felt it was good to start a thread on this as methamphetamine addiction has become one of the most abused drugs in our society.
unfortunately, from what i've heard is it is relatively cheap to make , not as expensive as other drugs, and highly addictive once a person is " hooked" they have an extremely hard time getting off it.
crank or speed as it is called makes people highly aggressive, mean spirited, and can make them violent.

I have often said that I don't "hate" anyone. But with regards to those that make and sell meth, "hate" is the only word I can use to describe my feelings toward them. I believe they may eventually undermine our society. They are taking our young ones now. Responsibility can be spread around some, but I place the bulk of it on their shoulders. They deserve to be hung, and I'd like to watch.

i don't know if this has been posted yet but my mom told me that there was a letter from crooklyn that publishers can now attend international conventions.
before only the pioneers, elders, etc could attend.
she said that there was a tremendous amount of excitement among the publishers that they now have the "privilege" of attending.
I guess you could say they have to "qualify." You know, good standing, etc. There is some paperwork to fill out, and I am pretty sure the elders have to approve it. Kind of like going to "where the need is great."

It caught me off guard as I hadn't attended a meeting in some time. At the start of the WT, on Sunday, the conductor pronounced that they had to go through the WT quickly as they had an announcement to read!!!! There was electricity in the air. I couldn't wait to hear what was coming......then he read the letter about how anyone can apply to attend the international convention in 2009..what a let down. I was hoping for something much more exciting.
