  Do JW still hold to their 1984 Doomsday deadline?

  did jw's predict the world would end in 1984?.

  the september 21, 1984 issue of chrisitanity today on pages 66-67, ran an article entitled: "do jehovah's witnesses still hold to their 1984 doomsday deadline?".

  that's as far as my search has gotten me and it isn't on chrisitanity today's web-site.. can anyone find this article for me?.

  Question for Current or Former Elders (baptism of minors)

  i have joint custody of my two children with my ex husband who is still raising the kids on his time as jws.

  my 11 year old claims she is getting baptized at the next assembly.

  i have heard that i can write a letter to the boe and say that i oppose her getting baptized before she is 18. is that true?

  so i posted a joke online, one that would make my jw freinds think a bit, the way it was written i thought for sure there would be no way it could be taken any other way than intended.

  i also thought it was just past the line but wanted to see where it would go..

  Protecting pedophiles while protecting children

  i know that a lynch mob forms whenever there's a hint of anybody being a pedophile, but the truth is that not all are the slavering, predatorial animals that they are painted to be.

  each circumstance has its' own specifics.

  in defense of the wts, they do keep track of confirmed pedophiles now.

  i think stillin has a point insomuch as at least the wt is doing something now. (e.g i know that known abusers are followed by 2-team attendants at big conventions 24/7). but i imagine any victims are still being doubted and certainly not getting recommended therapy other than org based treatment of keep busy do more study/service/prayer until the appointed wait on jehovah time.

  all of which makes the whole holy-spirit-directed claim such nonsense.

  i can understand folk that choose to stay in. as an organization it is well run and offers support and friendship and guidance to all who at least look like they are playing along. it is certainly no worse than other organizations that do similarly and who will also have their fair share of nutters, thieves, child abusers, adulterers etc etc etc among them. it might even be better than most..but it doesn't imo make them backed by god. otherwise he is doing a very strange job of directing them

  i will admit that i have joined two a little while back just to see what kind of a response i would get.

  it is so difficult to meet new people in that: 1) work - there are now 4 men in all - 2 married old cronies and 2 younger guys that are just a no.

  2) i have a lot of gay friends so when we go shake our bom boms it's usually at a gay club - 99.9% of the men there are gay 3) friends of friends are usually involved.

  Men don't understand that a little manners and sweet talk lands a woman in bed but rude, aggresive behavior leads to lonelienss and masturbation

  well i'd like to find the men who do not understand it....frankly i'd like to find the women...my experience is there are still far more women who find nice guys boring.

  i am a nice guy...and i am far from boring...if they would only stick around long enough to find out

  Depression & natural ways to deal with it

  i was on prozac for about 10 years, and finally went off all meds about 18 months ago.

  the prozac was causing me to have manic episodes, so they added a bipolar medicine as well as a sleep aid, and the bipolar medicine made me dizzy & nauseaus.

  so now i work really hard at exercising regularly, i take a lot of natural supplements including natural lithium & megadoses of omega upon advice of a homeopathic doctor.

  Former Long Time Elder - Judicial Committees

  when i first was appointed as an elder, i could not wait to be on a judicial committee.

  it semed like most hearings invovled middle age men and women cheating on their mates because either they had married early or felt that were being neglected by their mate.

  most times i felt i need to take a long hot shower after a hearing.. the toughest part was seeing these sweet young children grow up in "the truth", and now you are about to judge their future based on their repentance.

  i stopped a vulnerable young girl from being disfellowshipped. she had a horrible upbringing including being abused and then abandoned by a knife wielding mother - and she had just been ditched a few weeks before her wedding. her crime was to steal some money from her grandparents in a momentary lapse of reason. the other 2 elders wanted to df her on the grounds that they did not like her father. usually 2 against 1 would be enough to df but i managed to convince them that this was too harsh ..and common sense prevailed - at the time i felt it was the holy spirit working thru me.

  a few years later...i was involved in a judicial comittee dealing with a repentant genuinely sorry mentally drained hospitilised person who it took 2 minutes to df...i know cos it was me df-ed this time..where was the holy spirit there...
