just wondering if there were any good funny stories out there with the songs.. there always were the loud ones, the ones who thought they could sing.. i remember wrong songs being played on the record, then later tape, (are they on c/d yet?
) and people singing to it, but the wrong music, but they keep going anyways, especially when the "new song book" came out.. how about when the record would skip.. of course there were the brothers back there who so loved their "repsonsibility" in the hall, and took the "privledge" of doing the music so serious.. i remember back when they allowed someone to actually play the piano, she sometimes would jazz it up a little, and the congregation loved it, made it more lively, until they were chastised for it.. and then of course, no one could play live anymore, didn't want to make the musician too proud.
do you think that was really the reason?

But I did get some measure of revenge thanks to Quotes! I made him stand here and listen to me sing for him.( which, now that I think of it, is probably punishment enough because he will have those tunes going through his head as he attempts to go to sleep tonight.heh heh heh)

I brought that very point out to my mother (a pioneer) about Jesus being 30 when I was telling her why I thought it was nuts that my stepson got baptized at 14. I told her that I feel that children have no business committing themselves to something for life. Next month is forever for a child! Her reply left me speechless (and believe me, that doesn't happen very often!). She said that the only reason Jesus was 30 when he was baptized is because he was fulfilling prophesy! This of course means that a child is perfectly capable of understanding what they are saying when they make a lifelong commitment and that if not for that pesky little prophesy, Jesus would have been baptized as a child too. Uggh! I gave up after that.
last night i was visiting with one of my friends who works at the local police dept.
she was talking about a guy that had to come in and register as a sex offender.
he claims that this girl said she was 18, was really only 13 and he was convicted of rape, served 1 year in jail.
IMO, offenders lose their rights to any compassion when they give in to the sick urge to assault a child (or anyone else for that matter). Sorry if I am coming off a bit unreasonable to some readers but watching the David Westerfield trial for the past several months knowing that all of that occurred less than 30 miles from my home and being a mother has me extremely wound about this subject in general. I am of the opinion that anyone who preys on a child loses any and all brownie points for any good deeds in their life. Personally, I think the Lorena Bobbitt method of punishment has definite possibilities in sex abuse cases! So, that said I will go finish my coffee and get to work.

I am in agreement with everyone here who says talk to your Doctor- there are many treatment options. I am in the same boat with the anxiety/panic attacks that last hours to days- which goes beyond what most info out there says about panic/anxiety attacks as far as duration. I can also vouch for Klonopin- it has been extremely helpful to me when the attacks have been severe. I am now on Zoloft for the panic disorder and it does help considerably. I have not had to take the klonopin since I started the zoloft.Hang in there! It does get better! My thoughts are with you!

i just read diane wilson's book "awakening of a jehovahs witness" and it was a wonderful account of her experiences as a jw.
there are great references in here for their flip flops, their blood issue, the cult mentality (hassan) and how vulnerable certain "types" of people are to the mind manipulating ways of the witchtrowel!

Hi Neon - I am glad that you enjoyed the ;book, though I do ;have to disagree with your assessment that she has an axe to grind. Far from it, in my opinion. Understandably, anyone who has been through the experiences that she and her family have been through could easily become bitter. ; But knowing her family as I do, that is not the case. My experience was not nearly as extreme as theirs (though far from pleasant) and I can assure you that I probably display more anger than Diane or her family and I don't have much. She spoke recently at Center for Inquiry West in Hollywood and had you heard her, you would have heard a very sincere person that is far from bitter - to the point of being able to laugh at her experiences ;and make them come alive with humor and emotion for her listeners. ;Diane is very expressive and has the ability to convey her points very eloquently and intelligently. I hope that some day you are able to see her speak in person and see for yourself what a great person she is.

I think I heard that story at least 10 years ago when I was still going to meetings about the woman who ended up dead because she ventured onto the internet! Has that story ever not been used as an example of the evils of the internet? It always amazed me how readily the negative was embraced and the positive was ignored in any situation. I for one will always be grateful to the internet and to xjw sites. Without one particular website, I would never have met my wonderful husband, and for that I will be forever grateful!

what do you think, is there any change of belief or change of circumstance that could make you return to the jw fold?.
i cant see anything that could make me go back,but i was thinking mabye some of you religious types would go back if they changed some doctrinal things,or if they stopped banning blood.. how about if a family member was dying and hoped to see you in paradise would you go back for a while just to make them feel happy?

others, when they see all the lies of the "truth", leave right away.
I was raised as a witness. I was in my early teens when I realized that something wasn't right. But I kept going because there was no choice. I got baptized at 14 (mostly because other kids my age were doing it). To make a long story short : I was married at 18, and both my husband and I started to slowly skip meetings since we both felt the same way, first the book study, then the service meeting . I started to have panic attacks when it was time to go to a meeting and would end up in tears because of the inner turmoil - not wanting to go but feeling that I "should". This was when we started to skip most Sundays also. But once I gave myself permission to acknowledge how I felt and stopped letting the guilt control me, the panic attacks went away All in all, the fading out process happened over a 6 year period and I have been 100% free for around 6 years. A long process but well worth it!!
