  Who would have left if....

  inspired by a recent thread quoting from an awake.

  some people who were once faithful christians have purposely drawn away from god,perhaps because of bitterness,pride, or greed, and are now "apostate fighters" against god's spirit.they willfully oppose what the spirit is clearly accomplishing.

  have these induividuals committed the unforgiveable sin?

  I read this quote on the other thread and am appalled at the arrogant, self-assuming, self riteous tone that it is written in. I am certainly not surprised, but since the only contact I have had with the publications in 6 or 7 years is whatever is posted on the internet, I can say that nothing has changed. "clearly" accomplishing what? Spreading misery and gloom and providing people with a way to stick their head in the sand rather than deal with life? Teaching people how to perfect the "Woe is me and it is someone elses fault that life is crap and I refuse to take responsibility for the path my life takes, let God fix it?" Some accomplishment! And so typical to blame people's departure on "bitterness, pride or greed." Of course the bitterness couldn't possibly be the result of realizing that one has literally wasted years of their life as a member of a cult, instead it is portrayed as a character flaw that prevents one from seeing all that "good" that is being accomplished.

  I have found the road to true worship, not left it. I have become a faithful christian by leaving that oppressive way of life. I am not lost any more. And if finding the right road makes me an "apostate fighter" then I say thanks for the compliment!

  why did you fall for the jw's when they knocked at your door so many years ago?

  if they didn't teach that they alone were saved, would you have still joined them?

  what scriptures in the bible did they use to seduce you?

  Unfortunately, I was not given the choice - I was raised a witness from the age of 1. Even being raised in it, I was not of the "humble mindset" that could accept what I was being told without questioning (at least in my own mind, though I knew better than to voice it) If I had not had the constraints of growing up as a witness, I doubt that they would have had a snowball's chance in hell of recruiting me.

  Did you leave the Borg 'in search of truth' or 'freedom from rules'?

  this question is not to offend anyone, it's just that i have noticed people have many different reasons for leaving the borg and i thought it would be interesting to find out why some of you left.. for example:some leave because they want to be free to smoke, drink, gamble, fornicate, grow beards, celebrate xmas, take blood and drugs, etc.some leave because they never believed and now are old enough to do as they want.some leave because they have seen that they can be happy living life free from any religious organization, yet still feel safe in god's love.some have been hurt by the borg and have taken their wounds away to lick them, waiting to see justice.some have trusted the borg with their lives, time and money...........only to discover recently that there has been lies, cover-ups and hypocracy in the borg.

  now they have left but need to belong to another organization to feel happy.. i left the borg because i found out about the cover-ups and lies.

  my family was abused by it, my child was sexually abused and i was df'ed.

  I left because of the hipocracy that I saw from the time I was old enough to define the word. I knew that what was being taught was not what the bible said.There are clear, simple truths in the bible that were being perverted and twisted to fit the agenda of an organization of men. I lost all faith when I started learning first hand about the reality of what this "united" organization really represented and stood for vs. the fantasy world vomited from the mouths of speakers on the platform every week. Freedom from rules in and of themselves had nothing to do with it. To be free from the heavy oppressing load of regulations and thought control heaped on us every week at the " upbuilding" meetings, yes - but freedom from what the bible teaches should govern our actions, no.

  Describe Yourself.

  not everyone feels comfortable revealing details of themselves on this forum, and i've never met anyone on this discussion board (but of course i hope i will one day!

  ) and i just thought that it would be fun and interesting for all of us to post a little about ourselves!.

  i'm 40, own 3 businesses, married to a jw wife (wish i wasn't) and am addicted to a certain website..., .

  I am 30, a mother of 1.5 (soon to be 2)children, step mom to a great kid, married to a wonderful man (2nd time was the charm for me!) and to coiun Xena's phrase, I am also a "professional nagger" for a day job. Love to cook, sped time with family & friends, read. It all sounds so boring when reduced to a little paragraph, but I am happy with my life anyways. Never a dull moment!

  My ideal guy is intelligent, fun loving, easy going, loves me unconditionally even when I have my rare "blond moments", is supportive no matter what, does dishes, laundry, shares housework(!) , has a great sense of humor, lets me know on a daily basis that I am loved, appreciated and wanted. Oh, and I might add that I am already married to him, so I don't have to go looking for anyone that fits my many ideals for the perfect man.

  Advice You'd Give Your 12-Year-Old Self?

  this topic came up on slashdot, where some of the replies were...interesting, to say the least.. what would you guys say to yourselves, if you could send your 12-year-old self a message?.

  i know that was about the age i began to read really well, and only five years later i left "the truth", so it was a crucial point in my life, as it is in the lives of many...?.

  Oh that's pretty easy:

  1) Do not get baptised!

  2) Trust the funny feeling that what you are being taught is crap and get the hell out!

  3) Do not get married 2 weeks after graduation. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid! OF course what else was there to do, in my young mind. Didn't want to pioneer and didn't want to live at home, couldn't go to college! Oh, here's a hairbrained idea! Marry an a** and waste 9 years of life (12 if you count the "dating years"! )

  Of course, I must add that without all those experiences, I would not be who I am today or have the life that I do today with a wonderful husband and family, so it wasn't all bad. I have to say that I would do all those stupid things all over again to be where I am today.

  For those of you raise in the "truth" a Question

  i myself was raised in the "truth" til i was df'd at the age of 21. i have often wondered that if i were allowed to grow up just as every other child did in the u.s. would i have been interested in looking at the organization and taking interest?

  do any of you think and wonder the same thing?

  It was never a pleasant prospect as far as I was concerned. It was boring enough hanging out with those people a few hours a week! An eternity with them would have been hell, not paradise! Thankfully, we all came to our senses and enjoy our life now instead of postponing all pleasure and happiness to some fictional place in the future.

  April, Thanks so much for the card! What a sweet thing to do for everyone! Don't let one person's bitterness and insecurity stop you from being the kind, thoughtful individual that you obviously are.

  Maybe the bitter one has a locked email, or you had not gotten to them yet, but it was she who is out of line for blasting you for a kind gesture, not you for sending nice messages to everyone.
