OTWO I see your point. The only difference I see is that in a disaster or a danger zone, the people giving the evacuation instructions are third party individuals. People recognize them as authority figures but they, in most cases, do not know them. People may resent them, but it’s not resentment on a personal level. They resent the system; they resent the circumstances, even the individual who gave the orders, but not really the person. They don’t connect with them on a personal level they connect with them on an authoritative level.

OTWO this is a very hard decision, one I hope you never have to make. However, upon reading your thoughts one word came to mind, and that was “betrayal”. Would your wife feel betrayed by your actions? On one hand she would be alive (great thing) on the other if she truly believes in what the Watch Towers says then she will be riddled with guilt. Even if you took all the blame and the responsibility, she would still feel like she did something wrong. She could then view your act of kindness and love as a betrayal to her, her beliefs, her faith and her God. How long before she would begin to resent you? Would her resentment towards you ever go away? Dare I say, how long before her resentment turns into hate? I understand your love for your wife, but if your wife really believes in her faith you could save her physically, but destroy her mentally and emotionally. You know very well how deep the JW psychology runs. I guess it all depends on the person, but from what I have seen, most JW believers have a way of wrapping things in their minds that can destroy them one way or another when a crisis arises. It sucks, but they somehow feel pride in making decisions that to others may seem strange, or even dangerous. Again, I hope you never have to make a decision like this. But you should consider and perhaps even respect her wishes, no matter how painful they may be to you. For now, I wish you and your wife long, happy and healthy lives!

When you used to go out in field service......
by lavendar in......did anyone ever ask you a question that you couldn't answer??
if so, what was the question?
what did you say to the householder if you couldn't answer it??.

It happened a few times. I usually stammered and stuttered. I don’t remember the exact questions but my “out” was that I would have to go and do some research and get back to them. I actually liked this as I could then count it as a return visit. Of course, later I would forget about it and never return!

Raising children without a religion - thoughts, advice?
by atpeace inalmost ready to take the plunge, but have held back for years because of topic.
husband and i have not been active for many years and no longer consider ourselves jw's.
we also have no desire to be part of an organized religion.

Raise them to be good individuals. Instill in them the moral values you and your husband value. You don’t need religion to be a good person. As they grow older explain to them the concept of God, religion and faith; but tell them it’s their choice to choose what they want to do. Being active in a religion doesn’t always make things right. I say be active in your community, be active in school, be active in a sport, be active with your family, be active in whatever makes you a happy and complete individual.

Hotel rooms and the Org.
by noontide inthe tread regarding the special announcement http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/150436/1.ashx got me thinking about some of the misconceptions regarding hotel room reservations for the assembly.
i have been working in the hospitality (hotel) industry for over 6 years now and was a sales manager (sold rooms to large conventions) for about 2 years when i first began my career.
now, i write the following with experience in a rather large corporation and with one of the better-named brand hotels; whether this applies to the smaller sized hotels or motels, i do not know.

The more room nights they agree to book, the better the discount.
300 room nights - $250 night
500 room nights - $150 night
700 room nights - $99 night and so on. -

I built my new system and installed Vista. Never had a problem with it. That being said, my next computer will be a Mac. It will be a laptop.

I’ve liked his music ever since I was little and could sneak his cassettes into my house. He is a very talented musician, but I realize he is not everyone’s cup of tea. I’ve been to 7 of his concerts and it’s interesting to see his musical/spiritual evolution. His music has always straddled the spiritual side of things so when he started studying with the Witnesses it did not surprise me.
We fell for the Witness banter once, didn’t we? So did he. Let’s hope he learns the truth about the truth. -

Hey everyone thanks for your responses. You are right and I do try to live my life the best way possible. Honestly I don’t know if what I feel is guilt or something else. I see my family and they are so happy and blissful in their ignorance within the Org. that sometimes ignorance can seem like bliss. If it wasn’t for my libido I’d probably still be in, as ignorant as they are. But all of you are right, I now know the real truth and no matter how I found out, I can only move forward from here. And just to clarify one thing, I can and do remain monogamous when I am in a relationship. I’ve seen what other people go through when a partner is unfaithful and I never want to be in that position or cause someone that kind of pain. Again, thanks for your responses, I’ll make a copy of this thread and read it often when I begin to doubt myself.
