Great book, an eye opener when I first read it.
You might find this a good corroborative read;

i'm in the middle of studying 1984 by george orwell .
it's a frightening book but more so for me because it's describing the borg to the letter almost just by another name.. right down to the changing of history to suit bb doctrine, the younger generation not believing anymore but finding ways around the rules to live their own lives.
the culture of squealing on others and kids being taught to do that even to their own parents.
Great book, an eye opener when I first read it.

with the loss of music greats in 2016, i'm somewhat surprised that gord downie hasn't been mentioned here.. the hip make such good music, and put on a good show.
saw them here about 4 years ago, and gord brought his young son out on stage.
with his health news, it makes that memory so much more touching.. whenever we lose a talented entertainer, we feel such loss, wishing that their talented gift to us did not stop.. for him to give, what can only be described as, a self-sacrificing good-bye tour, leaves me absolutely speechless.. http://www.torontosun.com/2016/05/25/final-tragically-hip-tour-dates-announced.
I raise a toast, to Gord Downie and his family.
Ditto. His lyrics and the Tragically Hip's songs are synonymous with Canadian music and culture to a large degree. I first saw them during a "nooner" at college in '89 when they released "Up to Here". Pretty good band I thought and then they exploded, here in Canada anyways.
I salute Gord's bravery and dedication to his craft with this last tour, and wish him and his own strength in the coming months.
maybe it's time for a less serious thread .
i have just finished watching dirty dancing ( again ) .
what is your feel good movie , the one that makes you smile and cry happy tears ?

24 may 2016. russia: jehovah's witnesses face possible liquidation.
by victoria arnold, forum 18. if prosecutors proceed with their threat to liquidate the jehovah's witness headquarters near st petersburg, thousands of local congregations across russia could also face prohibition of their activities and individuals could be vulnerable to criminal charges for expressing their beliefs, forum 18 notes.. the jehovah's witnesses' principal body in russia is under threat of dissolution as an "extremist" organisation after the deadline in an official warning from the general prosecutor's office expired on 10 may, forum 18 notes.
I don't believe in banning any religion no matter how pathetic it is.
Agreed.

It might be considered that defining time in relation to movement or velocity is self referential as time is part of the equation i.e velocity is distance over time. Defining time in such a way is circular and logically inconsistent.
Clearly, time is a measurement between two events occurring. A measurement arbitrarily ascribed however we wish to, in ever decreasing increments and in figures so large as to reel the mind. But these labels are relative to what we perceive and what can be measured, such as the speed of my typing, the speed of light (no relation), the positions of things, even subatomic particles (which is quite another sticky mess according to Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle)
Physics doesn't require time move in one direction only as the math allows events to happen forwards or backwards in time. Such is how the Big Bang theory was postulated, working things backward. In relativistic terms, speed and therefore time are finite in that the speed of light governs all. Then again, quantum entanglement seemingly allows events to affect each other instantly regardless of distance and time. This begs the question of what is an instant?
What really is time?
o.k.
here's just a little fun, you guys can run with it.. if god existed would he allow the whacktower to be in business?
just sayin... lol.
As mentioned, just speculation
Also, nothing exists outside the universe, by definition.
has anyone heard about this?
that really sucks.
lots of dubs are talking.
This is what it sounds like when dubs cry
Cue Facebook photo meme...
LOL
a thought occurred that there is a danger in thinking we know everything, or have it all figured out in life.
especially when it comes to matters of doctrine or faith.. witnesses (or at least the society as a whole) are so self-confident, so proud to be the only ones who know "the truth" about everything to do with the universe, the earth, our past and our future, that pride kicks in.
and pride is dangerous...(.and before a fall).
The more I know, the more I realize I don't know.
One of life's many paradoxes it would seem.
my first one!
even though i got it saturday, march 26, in the mail in an envelope addressed to "my dear neighbor.".
it's the thought that counts..
It's the thought that counts.
And quite the thought it was...
please post your favorites too.
my favorite quotations:.
you cannot change what you refuse to confront.. sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.. don’t think of cost.
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
