probably. There is a reason that the CD-ROM library doesn't go back past the 60's. LOL :-)

did anybody see the new hitchhiker's guide movie yet?
i went this weekend.. wow, what a disappointment.
it didn't "suck", exactly, but it wasn't what it could have been.
>> I agree about Zaphod... the character was done perfectly! (An ego larger than the universe itself).
Hmmm, to me the perfect Zaphod would be Jim Carrey. (At least that was how I pictured Zaphod when reading the books myself)
It would have been funny to see what Carrey would have ab-libbed. (some of the funniest parts in his films are just him ab-libbing.)
silent (oe the "planning to see the movie this weekend class")
as i was reading the thread about not at homes i wondered if anyone else a slacker pioneer?.
there was a bunch of us in our hall that went out on a wednesday.
we usually managed about 45mins before needing a coffee which somehow extended through lunchtime, maybe interupted by a return visit that hopefully wasn't home.
I did know a pioneer sister who had a pool. During the summer, she and several of the other pioneers would spend time studying for the bookstudy in the pool. They made sure someone dragged along an unbaptized brat so they could keep the old clock a-rollin.

i have been reading many of the posts and i can not get over how many people have similar feelings to me.
i would like to share my background.
first i was born into the organization and all the relatives that i knew were jws.
>> Wisconsin,,, wow. Must be a great place. :)
Yes it is. Just too damn cold right now. :-) but that should be changing, right around the time silent shuffles off to San Jose for the summer :-( I get to miss the WI apostate fest too :-(
Anyway, I haven't seen a JW since moving here 2 years ago....
kansas is holding a debate to decide.

topeka, kansas (reuters) -- evolution is going on trial in kansas.. eighty years after a famed courtroom battle in tennessee pitted religious beliefs about the origins of life against the theories of british scientist charles darwin, kansas is holding its own hearings on what school children should be taught about how life on earth began.. the kansas board of education has scheduled six days of courtroom-style hearings to begin thursday in topeka.
Hi Daunt,
Please read the rest of my post. My point was that Intelligent design SHOULD NOT BE TAUGHT because it cannot be proven wrong. People who attack ID often go about it wrong (like many in this thread). They focus on the credibility of the EVIDENCE alone. That has virtually NOTHING to do with the argument ultimately. It is a subtle point that even MOST people with college degrees miss.
Ask an Intelligent Design beleiver "What would prove ID wrong ?". They likely cannot answer the question. That is what makes Creation a MYTH.
Anyone who believes evolution CAN exactly tell you how evolution COULD BE proved wrong. That is what makes evolution a scientific theory, NOT the overwelming evidence in its favor.
.
.
i just thought i'td be neet to get a poll of how many people on this board are still meeting attending, time reporting publishers, who believe the wts is all crap?.
>> Okay so 14 with integ? 14 who post. Likely the tip of the iceburg, with the rest LURKING beneath the surface.

Lots of evidence is meaningless. The right question to ask is "How can ID be proven wrong." There is NO WAY to prove ID wrong. That is why it should not be taught in schools. Even many ID opponents miss this subtle point. That is why creation is a MYTH and evolution is a scientific THEORY.
this was passed on to me:__________i found this on finnish forum, notice: this may be true or notjune 2005 km (finnish edition), page 7: "when searching information about jehovah's witnesses from internet, we recommend going straight to organization's official sites with address www.watchtower.org, www.jw-media.org or www.jehovantodistajat.fi instead of using different search programs, which gives results consisting mainly sites administred by apostates.
" (my translation from finnish)________ lol if true we have really hurt them.
next they will sell or give away their own browsers with all apostate links blocked out!randy
Randy, This may be YOUR fault. Freeminds shows up on the top of the "sponsered links" section for the keywords "Jehovah's Witnesses."
Too rich!
>> Thats the point how much money could they possibly have in third world congs?
I remember several COs telling me point blank in the late 1990's that the Society actually gets MORE donations from the 3rd world brothers than they do from the richer 1st world countries. These were in private conversations over dinner, so it wasn't like they were on stage tying to shame the flock into giving more.
I have no additional info, so I don't know one way or the other, or if things have changed since then.
They are probably selling some property to cash in on the insane price of real estate. So they can go buy some more defense stocks.
oh, and welcome to the board jeffk !

The problem with ID is that does not have falsifiablilty. This means that there does not exist an assertion that if proven true invalidates ID.
Thus, it sits outside of the realm of what the scientific method can handle.
