small world -- I actually went to Cornell, and used to walk by his house. I also know a JW that did some contracting work on his house too.

Elsewhere, you win.
I usually roll out my favs: Miricle Wheat, Jehovah is an astronaut from the Pleiades, Aluminum is evil, pyramidology.
But, all mine were eventually recanted. Have they ever recanted the "gravity is a myth" doctrine yet? -

Awake = College Education, % of brain usage, where are these?
by drew sagan ini've heard that this is somewhere in the magazines, but i have no clue where.
also, does anybody know where (or even if) the watchtower ever fed off the idea that we only use a fraction of our brains, an idea that has proven to be false?
i heard so many people talk about this in discussion, but have been unable to locate it in a publication.

The study also revealed a much higher level of education among Jehovah's Witnesses (when compared with that of the average Muscovite),
--------------------------------------
That's interesting becuase in the US, the Witnesses are among the LEAST educated among the 30 largest religious groups (only 5% have a 4 yr degree). Study has appeared here before.
jgnat, great stuff!

oh wow. That Tandy makes me feel O-L-D. Actually, it's funny. Every computer I've used over the last 20 years has had the same "rough" price point. Starting from an Apple IIe in 1986 (128K of RAM; no hard drive) to the 2.4 GHz laptop with 1GB of RAM I'm typing on this post today.

G.B. members hand picked DIRECTLY by Jehovah
by SeymourButts ini was in the process of looking up an article, when i came across this little gem.
jehovah appoints the "governing body" himself, directly!
not only that, but the "organization" is under "the immediate direction of jehovah god himself" .

Makes sense. I heard Jehovah picked Greenlees and Chitty for their intimate knowledge of greek. LOL -

by the way -- I took that class at much less august institution than University of Awake. It was merely Ivy League. :-(

Ahh, you found the motto for University of Awake. Actually, they are technically NOT a university, since the only degree they offer is a BS. (universities offer PhDs too).
The fallicy about the brain usage is as follows: If you look at an MRI (or whatever measurement of brain activity you want), you notice that only a small percentage (less than 1% or so) of the neurons fire AT ANY GIVEN TIME for any task you perform. Thus, people conclude you use ONLY that % of your brain. What they don't tell you is that vrtually EVERY neuron gets fired over a long enough time period, thus indicating the whole brain is used.
For a more empricial repudiation of this fallicy, take a class in Psychiology of the Brain. Basically, you study examples of people who have had head injuries that damage a part of the brain, and see what functionality they lose. -

but to join in another religion seems to be changin one poison for another.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
amen. Actually, leaving the JWs and going to another church reminds me of the scripture "like dogs returning to their vomit." Rutherford was wrong about many things, but his gem "ALL religion is a snare and racket" was DEAD ON right.
