update on New Orleans
by stillajwexelder inletter read from rbc - they are looking for elders (ideally with construction experience) to spend 3 months or more down in new orleans - for oversight and construction.
having children and family is not a barrier.
main probelm is combatting and eradicating mould.

Yankee Stadium? Not again!
by truthsetsonefree inword has it in new york city that the cozy days at nassau colisseum are over.
(for those of you unfamiliar with new york, the district conventions have been held at an indoor colisseum for for several years now.
prior to that new yorkers were forced into sitting for 3+ days in a hot, humid, sometimes rainy outdoor stadium.

Now with the Society's money problems it looks like it's back to Yankee.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think the move to cheaper venues is a sign of money problems. The WT's largest cash cows are conventions and assemblies. They more than break even. Usually, the local governments cut the WT a deal and let them rent the building for practically nothing (since all the good little dubbies fill local hotels, restaurants, etc).
Likely, Nassau didn't want to cut them a deal. Shocked that Steinbrenner would though.

hi dune,
Gradutated with a BS and MS in Computer Science from Cornell. Currently a 3rd year PhD student in Computer Science at Univ of Wisconsin - Madison. (Top 10 overall in Comp Sci, but #1 in databases).
If you have any questions about grad school, would be glad to answer them.
One piece of advice: take a few courses in Psychology if you get the chance. Looking back, they were my favorite classes.
cheers,

Lurkers:How To Leave The Organization Quietly And Discreetly
by metatron inan ever growing number of witnesses would like to leave the organization - but how?
you may have an extended family "in the truth".. all your "friends" ( and that word "friends" deserves to be put in quotes ) may be "in the truth".
you may not be in any position to make.

They called a month or so after our cards and a letter ("these folks have been ill," I'm sure it said) arrived.
----------------------------------------------------
It used to be that when you moved, you were handed your publisher record card, and YOU gave it to the secretary of your new congregation. Or simply ripped up the card. :-)
Now, cards are sent Secretary to Secretary. So sad. -

Here's why...
by RichieRich ini recieve many pms, emails, and more recently, many thread replies which ask me a simple question.. why are you disassociating yourself?
why not just fade?.
well, here's why.. my mother, and her mother, are in the "truth".

In my letter, I list each elder's full name, spouse name, childrens names, and home address. Just so they know, I'm not playing around.
-----------------------
Actually, a better (slightly more expensive approach) would be to have a lawyer draft a brief letter (on law firm letterhead), and have it send it to them. Also include something like "My client will consider any announcements regarding their status in your organization as slander and/or libel, and will puruse all legal options against any individuals responsible for such statements".
I can promise you they will call the Legal Department, who will tell them they are on their own and to leave you alone. That actually might get some of them thinking about how exposed they are legally. You will still get shunned, but they will literally mess themselves if they ever bump into you in normal life.
I never had to use the L-bomb (legal bomb) option, but was quoted a price of about $150 by a lawyer about 4 years ago, when I had a close call myself. So, today it would likely be $200 or so. If you really want to leave with a bang, this is the ULTIMATE way to go out. Then again, lawyers may be cheaper in your neck of the woods.
Actually, I would donate $10 towards a fund for you to do this. Let's see if the other brave souls, who call silent faders weak-willed will put their money where their large mouths are.
cheers,

Hi Richie,
You are right in that I missed the point. I thought you were interested in having contact with your mother regardless after leaving, and I suggested the approach that maximized the probability of that happening. That is the merit of fading. I'm happy with my situation.
I re-iterate my suggestion: Read Machiavelli's "The Prince" and "Art of War". Also, in college take a class in Game Theory and General Psychology. All will sharpen your analytical skills tremendously.
You are a very intelligent person. Good luck with your college applications.
Sincerely,
silent -
When you fade, you still play their game. [\quote]
Actually, that is the BEST way to win. Remember, your mom plays their game too. And, if you want to win, you have to remember that. I encourage you to read Machiavelli's "The Prince" or "Art of War". Learn how your opponent thinks, and make a strategy that exploits their strategy. Fading is the ONLY loop-hole in the JW world-view that will NEVER be shut for the following reason:
They will NEVER shun you as long as THEY think there is a chance you may come back.

Is losing your mother worth going out in a "blaze of glory". I'm too smart to let them provoke me. Are you? -

IDEA regarding my mother.
by RichieRich inits richie again.. i was thinking last night about my inevitable, fast approaching exit from the wtbts.
i guess that out of common courtesy, i will provide a copy of my disassociation letter to my mother, however, it is nothing more than a baptism nullification / gag order / i'll sue all of you letter.
its not one of those lengthy numbers that some have chosen to write.
They won't forget him easily, that's for sure.
I seriously doubt that. If you really want to get off the rolls, have someone call the Secretary of your congregation as the Secretary of the BumF--kNowhere congregation, and to please send them your publisher record card.
I'm not sure you could be disfellowshipped from a congregation if they don't have your publisher record card.
