Whenever I asked about this as a child growing up I was "reasoned with from the scriptures". Basically how everlasting life was far more valuable than any short term "gift" of charity. Besides Satan will see to it that there is always wickedness and food shortages and whatnot, so really it was a waste of time and effort. Trust on Jah to take care of it. And virtually all charities "waste" money funding administration....and all charities have a "hidden" agenda. I would be told about UNICEF and how it was tied to the UN, therefore wicked. Or the Red Cross....who runs blood donation centers. Etc...etc... etc.
I think this is one of the reasons JW's are so callous to "worldly" people. They figure it's like throwing money into a sieve. You can't solve the problem so why bother.
Of course the society doesn't want to compete with other charities for people's money is what it comes down to.

Did it ever bother you that Watchtower never did charitible works?
by AK - Jeff ini mean, for forty years believing the witness lie it always made me wonder.. judas was the keeper of the money box - and there are statements that indicated that the apostles thought that wasting money that could be used to aid the poor was sinful - so indications are that the earliest christians were doing charitible works.
of course there are many scriptural passages that encourage that activity among believers.
today all the organization ever does is pay lip service to charity.

Eagerness To Shun Bound To Fade
by Englishman inmy own parents gave up shunning me after i was disfellowshipped.
they kept it up for about 3 years and then just sort of gradually folded.
here in wsm, most of the witnesses who remember me can't be arsed with the shunning thang any more.

As Skully said....once you quit caring then they come running. In their minds everyone WANTS to be a JW, they just sometimes can't live up to the requirements. I would venture to say almost all active JW's feel this way. When you honestly quit caring one iota they can't figure out what is wrong. How could you possibly not care about being shunned? OMG...we need to figure out what's going on. It's all about power. Remove the power trip and JW's don't know what to do.
It's like when my parents are stunned at my belief system. How could I not "KNOW" what happens after death? More importantly how can I not "CARE"?!? When I tell them I'm not so naive as to wonder what does happen, but really can't know for sure, so just live as fully as I can today, and tomorrow will take care of itself. JW's are used to having "answers" for everything....so the unknown strikes fear into them. -

question for all
by bonnzo inmost of you are ex-dubs, so what if world events proved that the jw's were right.
for instance, governments turning on religion, matthew 24th chapt events really increasing at an alarming rate, enough to make you think: " maybe they were right?
" if that happened, and the wts left the "door on the ark", so to speak, open for a little while, would you go back to the wts?

Many ways to look at it? Everybody has said a resounding NO !!!
It's not the truth. The Witnoids are not God's people. I examine all things and have found the Witnoids lacking greatly. In fact I find Christianity to be lacking. IMHO Buddhists and Taoists display more of Jesus commandments than many Christians. I would not go back to the WTBS even if they somehow were "God's chosen" people. I wouldn't want to be a part of that group nor worship a god that would pick them as his spokespeople.
I would sooner vomit them out of my mouth.

Surf shorts are good.
Did you get your hair cut yet or is that forthcoming? Would like to see the haircut as your avatar if you get it dyed green. :) -

What do you do in your spare time?
by EvilForce ini have been here for almost 3 months now and was curious what ya'll did for fun outside of jwd.com.
right now because it's summer and it's too hot i don't do much glassblowing.
but that is where i spend most of my weekends when i'm not working.

Sorry Richie....in between clinical rotation. Is that better? LOL
Can't I let my hair down once in awhile? I work around a bunch of straight, 50 year old, boring, golf playing stick in the muds.....um...and I mean that in a good way. LOL
But Sally Resnik has a glass studio in Chatham County that has weekend workshops and what not if you are ever intersted. You are up that way right? Of course Penland up in the mountains has a good glass program for a summer session.
Also, a glazier if I'm not mistaken refers to a "glass worker" of sorts...like windows and whatnot. -

144001...ok fair enough.
I just have heard lots of folks use the "cruel punishment" debate but have debated me previously on the acceptance of ending one's own life if terminal anyway. Seems hypocritical. They pick a sifting stance depending on the circumstances.
You look at his "pig headedness" as evil. I see it more for truly believing in Terri's cause. After being so painfully persecuted in the media and courtroom I think it would have been far easier to drop it and let Terri become her parent's ward instead of fighting them for years and years in court. My exposure to lawsuits makes my skin crawl. I hate them. They are painful. People offered him money to walk away and leave her be. He turned it down and kept fighting for what he said Terri would want. You also seem to begrudge him for "moving on". If I was in Terri's state I would fully EXPECT my husband to move on with his life and try to find some love and fulfillment. I would not want him nor anyone waiting for 15 years on me. Two years....maybe. Fifteen...NO! I'm not sure any of us could have our personal lives examined like Michael's and not have room to be demonized by the media and opposing counsel. Also, from what I read Michael tried to offer an olive branch to the parents for them to be there while Terri passed but their lawyer started making all sorts of demands and shite-canned the entire agreement. As with any debates....two sides (or more).
Needless to say....it's easy to argue what he/she/they did or didn't do right. It's tragic. But I have seen my share of issues like this. Jeb Bush getting involved yet again makes me ill. Terri has passed. Let's learn what we can....fill out our medical directives. And hopefully all the family and friends around Michael, Terri, and her parents will find some sort of solace and can move on with their shattered lives. -

144001...would it have been more acceptable to you if they gave her a massive does of opioids to end her life? Or did you just feel that Michael S. was a dirt bag and not really interested in Terri's well being?
