i am in the same position as many where i don't agree with so much the society says and feel stuck dragging myself to the meetings and then feel incredible guilt because the study for the day says it is wrong to have any doubts "even in private".
impossible for me!.

5th.... Thanks for sharing.
When I was going to meetings as a late teen early 20's something I really drank too much myself. Numb the pain.
But, remember there is a whole life out there for you. It's not easy. It's not "prepackaged" and "tastes great". Find your path. I will never go back to the Witnesses.....unless they made wholesale changes...which is next to near impossible. But I've never felt more spiritual or free. As a Dub Jesus' load never felt light nor felt unburdensome.
As a Dub I NEVER felt "spiritual"!!! I tried !!! But I could never feel like God really cared nor loved me. My belief system now makes me feel very spirtual and at peace. For fun you may want to go to:
http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html
It's a "Belief-O-Meter"..... take the 20 minute "survey" and it will tell you how closely your personal beliefs match up with the top 26 religions here in America. JW's are included on those results.
But my parents still think I've lost my mind. How could I really not care one way or the other what happens at death?!? Try explaining that I do care, I just don't know, nor can ANYONE know for sure. There are lots of folks here with many fun, sad, twisted, and other experiences that you may like.
I'm from a four generation Dub family by the way. My grandfather was city overseeer waaaay back in the day. So I do understand your issues. -

Sorry if somehow I offended you. Twas not my intent. You asked questions. I simply answered how some on this board felt. And you are on an EX-JW board. And all walks of life and religious beliefs are welcome here. Again I apologize. You may state your beliefs and opinions here just as much as the next person. But that doesn't mean what you say won't be questioned or challenged. Again Welcome !!!

I'm like the crazy uncle at Thanksgiving. All the relatives are waiting to see what I do next...
"Is he going to get drunk and start screaming at the turkey about it being homophobic AGAIN this year?"
Is he going to sneak on the back porch and smoke weed with Uncle Abaddon, Uncle IPSec, and Auntie KLS?
Hang out with Auntie Blondie laughing and pointing at the latest Watchtower?
Can we keep him and Uncle's Sith and Jula71 apart at dinner so they don't fight?
Will we have to listen to him and Uncle 144001 rant on and on about G. W. Bush for 12,000th time?
Will he go out hunting with Cousin Ritchie trying to shoot a tofu tree so we can have Tofurkey instead for Thanksgiving?
Are those insufferable Brits Uncle Englishman and Uncle LittleToe showing up? All they do is talk about footie. LOL
Will EvilForce again hit on Cousin GetBusyLiving only to get shot down yet again?
Do Uncle's Scotman, EF, JoelBear, DarkUncle, Dora, SteveNYC, LittleRock, Jeffro, and ScoobySnax have to put on a DRAG SHOW every year?
Will Oz & Scully show up to make sure we keep the noise down?
Will JeannieBeanz, Sparkplug, Whyamihere and JT sing ABBA for Karoke for the 5th straight year?
Does Kwin and Talesin really need to put up 14 signs pointing the way to the door?
Will Auntie KatieKitten have a repeat performance of last year's Ecstacy drug induced "hug-a-thon"? Keep Uncle FrankieSpeak away from spking the punch again.
Will Minimus have a questionaire for all to fill out before playing Twister?
Will Auntie Crumpet be mean again this year to all the kids?
Do we have to listen to Classisist & Tetra tell us how in Canada Thanksgiving is in Oct. not Nov.
Will Auntie Jourles come disguised as another relative too?
Will the turkey actually be cooked this year, since last year Cousin BrownBoy baked it at 3+7+5 degrees for 4x5x5 minutes not 375 for 4 1/2 hours.
Will Scholar talk ad nasueum about the cranberry sauce being a Babalonian delicacy since 607 BCE?
Will Auntie HadEnuf cook 5 times the food we eat? -

OK smarty pants, post something simple that most people don't know.
by JH inok, lets see if you guys know the answer to this simple question.. .
if you have a car with a mechanical speedometer and odometer, not digital, and if you back up, will your mileage on the dial back up?.
7 miles on the odometer and you back up, for a few hundred feet, will the mileage also back up slowly to 47,108.6 and so on....?.

Glass when it is in it's molten (liquid) form conducts electricity very well. When cooled, glass is an insulator. Odd.

Well certain comments need to be taken in context. Lots of us think that God actually has a sense of humor and think some of the "tongue in cheek" humor is quite funny. Irreverent yes....blasphemous no.
But also lot's of us here do not think "your Jehovah" is God. Make sense? Some of us are agnostic. Some are Buddhist. Some are mormon. Some are hybrids. -

First off WELCOME!!!
Secondly I would say most here don't think they are "personally" being blasphemous against God. Most of feel that WTBS is actually being balsphemous by ignoring Jesus' commands.
You say that you feel the WTBS is "still closest doctrinally" than any other religion. How many other religions have you studied INDEPENDANT from the WTBS. Consulting your little brown book does not count as studying another religion. Were you raised in "the truth"? Have you done INDEPENDANT research on the teaching of the WTBS. For instance.... look in ANY encyclopedia and try to find that Jerusalem fell in 607 BC .....doesn't exist, can't find it. Jerusalem fell in 586/587. So if 607 is wrong that means 1914 is wrong....thinks that make you go "hmmmmm....." Have you learned about the WTBS association and membership with the United Nations as a NGO (non governmental org)? Go to www.un.org and type in the word "watchtower" in their search box.
There are dozens more examples of this. You should stick around JWD.com and other sites to learn more about what you call "the truth". But don't take anyone's word for it. Look for proof. Accept nothing at face value. If the WTBS is "the truth" than it can withstand some examination. Jesus told us to "examine all things". Do you think God would be upset that you researched into the things you have been taught? Since they are "the truth" they can be proved no? -

The Morman's and Joseph Smiths hat!!! OMG!
by free2beme inokay, it has been years since i cared about what a mormon does or says.
so to even question their beliefs and wonder what they mean, has been no interest to me.
yet when i am watching something that should not even be about religion and they mention something that makes me wonder, i have to ask.
-
EvilForce
Well to be honest it scares me that you didn't know this stuff earlier. But the Southpark show you are talking about is FUNNY! LOL
I wish they would make a Jo Ho version of that and it would be just as insane as the Mormon one to be sure.
Since leaving the Dubs I have done more research on all the other religions out there than I ever did as a Dub. When my mom wants to demean...I mean discuss Buddhism she has her little brown book from the Dub's about what Buddhists belief and how silly it is. When I ask her questions about what SHE believes she still pages thru that little brown book. UGH!!! -

How much whiskey do you consume in a given day?
by IronGland inwould you consider 1 flask+1 bottle red wine per day too much?
assuming no obvious ill effects..
-
EvilForce
Iron....a bottle of wine is actually 5 glasses of wine.
Plus a flask of whiskey?!? Per day. Way too much.
In "medispeak" usually 3 drinks a day on a regular basis is too much. Obviously if once a week on a Friday night you have 3, 4 or 5 glasses of wine but then go a few days without any alcohol you will probably suffer no ill effects except for maybe a hangover the morning. But each person is different and damage can set in quite early for some and take others 20+ years to see. Depends. It took my uncle 30+ years of heavy drinking to finally kill himself. He drank a 750 ml bottle of gin EVERY night. Of course he suffered many drinking related issues along the way health wise too. Another friend of mine has been drinking heavily for 10 years....but before the health issues could catch up to him, he put a gun in his mouth last Xmas and ended it.
