Well the Patriot Act is a whole thread onto itself.
The 4th amendment says: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Random bag searches and it's ilk isn't APPROXIMATELY what the Fourth Amendment was designed to prevent. This is SPECIFICALLY what the Fourth Amendment was designed to prevent. Because I can't think of anything more blatantly and specifically forbidden than the police randomly stopping people and looking through their stuff. Today it's random searches to get on the subway...what's next? Random searches walking down busy sidewalks? Pat downs before walking into busy grocery stores?
I'm speaking for Americans....you Brits have your own constitutional issues. Fear is a powerful motivator.....let's be RATIONAL about that fear however and examine evidence whether or not bag searches really are even effective at all.

I did get Onion ice cream by accident in Japan before. Not pleasant.
Also, I am usually a vegetarian but do eat sushi from time to time....especially when in Japan. Unagi or BBQ sea eel is quite good and as Billy pointed out very light tasting. But I love octopus too....although I know how intelligent the little buggers are so that bothers me....but why do they taste so good? LOL -

Manure....
by upside/down inmanure .
in the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship and it was also before the invention of commercial fertilizer, so large shipments of manure were common.
it was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, it not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by product is methane gas.

I forgot about the Dr. Laura comment LOL.
Activists are standing up for what they believe in. Call them passionate. Call them active. Call them engaged in the process. But to call them angry is foolish. Besides how upbeat and happy is Dr. Laura? She's usually the negative, angry one from the diatribes I've heard her spout. -

Yes Billy I was happy you were fighting the fine fight while I was away from the board even though we've had our disagreements.
It's things like drying up the illicit money transfers worldwide, disbanding terrorist group training camps, infiltrating various groups, that will actually make a difference. Let's be a bit rational about national security. Just because someone "feels" safe doesn't mean they really are. Let's make sure that what we do ACTUALLY works without infringing on our constitutional rights. For crying out loud, the reason we are supposedly in Iraq is to bring them freedom and democracy yet trample our own liberties in the process. It makes no sense. -

BD...I think she is saying that a male has the option of using a condom thereby negating whether or not an abortion would be needed. Correct me if I'm wrong Biscous.

Or the 12 people killed in 1886 in Chicago during a labor rally at Haymarket Square?
1920 Wall Street bombing that killed 40?
1956 FLN bombing of AirFrance offices?
1971 UVF bombing in Belfast McGurk's bar?
1972 Bloody Friday or the Lod's Massacre by the Japanese Red Army?
1973 Basque ETA group bombing the Rolando cafeteria?
1978 to 1995 The Unabomber kills 3 and injures 29?
1980's death squads in El Salvador?
Aug. 2nd 1980 Neo Fascist bombing killing 80 in Bologna?
1983 North Korean Rangoon bombing killed 21?
1985 Mass murders of health care workers in Nicaragua?
1994 Buenos Aires bombing killing 86?
The list goes on and on and on.....for a full list try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terrorist_incidents

Truth....when you are poverty struck and cannot hit a $ 50 million stealth fighter guess what. They will fight back with the means necessary.
The word terrorist is a nice little word we summarily use on a force who's tactics we disagree with. History is full of terrorists. If terrorists are on our side we call them "freedom fighters". Opposing sides....terrorists. Nothing new really. -

Zagor I can appreciate your passionate beliefs....however to be quite candid....as a male you will never have to face this decision ultimately. From perusing this thread most all of the uber anti-abortion folks seem to be men.
As I have said I would like to see other options rather than abortion, but will not force my opinion on others. The world is not quite so black and white, but rather many shades of grey. I would bet that 90% or more of abortions are given long, heartfelt, prayerful consideration by the women involved. Who am I to judge them of their spiritual and ethical concerns? -

"A man who takes it upon himself to prescribe how others should dispose of their own lives - and who seeks to condemn them by law, i.e., by force, to the drudgery of an unchosen, lifelong servitude (which, more often than not, is beyond their economic means or capacity) - such a man has no right to pose as a defender of rights. A man with so little concern or respect for the rights of the individual, cannot and will not be a champion of freedom or of capitalism."
Ayn Rand quote on abortion
