I always tell people to check out Taoism too if they are looking in Buddhism. Terry, it doesn't surprise me you think it's mumbo jumbo. The way your brain works isn't a good match with eastern spiritualism. And I'm not trying to demean you. To each their own.

I LOST IT ... my JW rant today
by talesin inwell, i just couldn't hold it in anymore.. today, i exploded, talking to my mother about the family inheritance and how i am being screwed.. i told her i had been so angry lately, and just had to tell her what i was thinking, because the anger was slipping out at times, and i was making snide anti-jw comments .... which is not my way.
i'm usually quite direct.. i told her that i couldn't take being treated like a piece of dog you-know-what on the bottom of someone's shoe any longer.. that in the past couple of years, i had learned so much filth about the jws that i was getting more and more disgusted day by day.. i started shouting ... there is nothing wrong with me!!!
why do i have to be shunned when they hide child molesters???.

It's maddening when they get on the "tolerance" bandwagon only when it applies to them. It is fine, courageous, and good for Dub's to blast Catholics with their godless religion and say "hey don't shoot the messenger". But when that same searing...laser light...get's shone back on them they say..."Hey we have a right to our beliefs". Hypocritical reflexive b.s.
It's like when I explain to my parents how I'm a Christian / Taoist / Buddhist mix. They pull out that damn little brown book of their's and I have to continually say...put that book down...how I FEEL isn't in that book. My belief structure isn't listed in the 3 page conversation stoppers in your book. And the only reason you want to read that book is so you can "fight" me on my beliefs....you aren't LISTENING. -

Ah yes good ole Chuck Colson from Prison Fellowship Ministries. I've had first hand experience with his "Ministry". The people running his charity are rude, ill-mannered swines.
And while the Josh McDowell Ministries are a "bit" better....he doesn't win a silver star either in my book.

Parent sleeping with teenagers
by Fatfreek inan ex brother and i were talking recently and he recounted a bizarre story.
he too left the witneys some years ago, got a divorce, and the two children (both boys) decided to stay with his wife since she was still a jw.. one of his boys (never baptized a jw) confided in him not long ago about the sleeping arrangements after he left.
she told the boys that she was feeling depressed and lonely because of the divorce and turmoil that their apostate father had caused her and asked them (ages 15 and 16) to each alternate and sleep with her every other night.. it took lots of courage for this son to talk to his father about it since he wanted it off his chest.

Thanks for sharing your story. Had you originally shared your story I would have been more supportive. When it's a clinical experience it's easy to muse aloud on the opposing viewpoint. When it is someone's own words quite the opposite I must say.
This thread was meant as a trial balloon. You got to see people's reactions. Mine included. Those of us who have not had any first hand experience with abuse see it through our own non-abuse eyes. The abuse problem is rather staggering....at least from what I have seen here at JWD. Perhaps it's too easily dismissed as something too vile to think to be that common.
But also, I don't think you would have had near, or any, opposing viewpoints if you had started the thread with your own first hand experience. I am glad you screwed up the courage to post. Welcome.... and as I said before I apologize if any of my words caused you ill will. My bad. Hope to see many more posts from you.

So far the only Carlton Armstrongs of note we've turned up are the weatherman who was charged with blowing up the University of Wisconsin, and the Vibe's bass player.
Still, true story or not, we have to wonder what sort of religious principles Tess's parents instilled in her. When told that her brother needed a miracle, the first place Tess headed was not to a church to pray for a miracle, but to a pharmacy to buy a miracle? What denomination were these people, anyway? Pharmaceuticalian?
(Yes, a pharmacy is a place one might go in order to acquire medicine, but in the story as told Tess's parents don't say anything about little Andrew's needing medicine. Tess hears about their needing money, surgery, and a miracle, but nothing about medicine.)
Whether I believed in miracles or not, I'd teach my child that miracles are acts initiated by a higher power, not something you buy at the corner drug store.

Depression from chronic pain is quite normal. Please tell your doctor you are experiencing this. Also, please make sure to voice your dissatisfaction with your current pain relief dosages, perhaps your doc can modify them to give you relief.
My concern is always when someone isn't getting any sleep because of their condition. If you're not sleeping you're not giving your body much of a chance to heal itself.
But be vocal and provide feedback on what you are going through. You are your own best advocate for your health care. -

Last night he stopped by the house. After a vigourous 30 minute "workout" he was screaming Oh, Jesus, Oh God, Oh Jehovah quite loudly. He promptly had a cigarette after our adventure. Whew! I have a new found respect for him now :)
