The whole world is filled with all of us with our neurosis, self-doubt, and want to be accepted. Once you realize we are all just trying to do our best to get thru this crazy thing called life...you can be more open, honest, and caring with people :)

WHAT WOULD YOU WANT YOUR GRAVE STONE TO SAY?
by new boy ini always liked what richard dryfress said in the movie "alaways", when he found out he was dead---"wow!!
!-----what a jerk i turned out to be"!!!!.
my mother's head stone says---------"i told you i was sick"!!

I don't want a headstone. I want my body thrown in a ditch to cause great turmoil. Preferably in one of those "private" conclave of homes for the uber wealthy. Stink up the place nicely too :)
My dead, bloated, stinky, (yet nicely muscled) body dumped on the 17th green somewhere.....
LOL
or maybe
"When he met his maker, his maker had a one word summation of deceased's life........Wow!" -

What has been your most spiritual experience?
by Qcmbr inok highly loaded question but i'd like to know!
i come from the viewpoint that we are spiritual beings having mortal experiences ergo we are having constant spiritual experience that maybe makes it seem commonplace..i'd be interested if anyone else has noticed spiritual events happening?
i'll shoot first: .

I agree!!! You will probably get 20 definitions.
To me when I feel "spirtual" I feel in awe. A part of something. A cog in the grand works. I have a place. This incredible sense of security, safeness, and warmth envelopes me. I look around me and see what an amazing world it is. How lucky I am for everything I have. The people I love. I can feel the overwhelming closeness to my friends and husband. I realize I have far, far more than I ever dreamed possible and or am entitled to. I have a type A personality...when the spirituality overcomes me I am content with everything and am at genuine peace with the world. I am accepting of myself and others and am happy with all the diversity of life. I feel sated. This is how best I can explain it. I NEVER felt this way at a KH or in service. I feel this way when I take time out to walk on the beach. Surf. Feel the sunshine on my face and hear the birds sing. Hear a beautiful song or melody. See a moving piece of sculpture or artwork. I feel it when helping people for work. It comes and goes. But usually will last for an hour or two a couple of times a week or so.
What is spirtual to you? -

The Awakening
by Cygnus inas many of you know, i have had some severe emotional issues the last couple of months.
repression from growing up jw and being so damned responsible for all my years and setting aside emotions....... now the emotions are finally kicking their way through the door and coming out with a vengeance.
i found a piece on a website devoted to anti-depressants and i normally don't do this but i thought i would share it with the board.

Valid alternatives to the door to door preaching work?
by El blanko inok - so i had a talk/debate with a guy today who insists that he sees "nobody else talking about the end of the world" and that "the door to door work the jws perform is the best way to preach.
this guy has a brother who is disfellowshipped.
he has never been baptized, yet has an ongoing interest and believes the jws are a special people.

Once upon a time the door to door preaching work was probably an effective tool. The 20's & 30's to family farms...everyone was home. The 40's, 50's and 60's in suburban and urband America / Europe there was probably a "stay at home" parent. Today? Two income families are the norm. The witnesses still spend most of their time in door to door service DURING the weekdays...wasting what 80% of their time?
But because they spent so much time talking about field service for so many decades it's tough to back away from. Also, it's an ORGANIZED activity then. To encourage others to talk to workmates, neighbors, and family members is an UNORGANIZED activity. The lose control that way.
So a 10 minute conversation with a neighbor would equal about 2 hours in field service. But because the goal is always HOURS not RESULTS...this is what insues. -

What is the most accurate translation....
by jaffacake ini have just read a couple of excellent booklets ordered from r watters freeminds site dealing with the tetragrammaton.
the nwt seems to be an accurate translation of hebrew scriptures, and correctly reinstates an english alternative to the tetragrammaton.
but they nwt new testament is wholly unacceptable (although the kingdom interlinear portoin seems excellent).

I think if you ask 20 people you might get 15 different answers.
My belief is that the King James is the most accurate, however, hard to read. So I have that one and a New Living Translation, and a American Standard. -

Hey Brian, welcome to the board.
Please keep in mind this is an Ex-Jehovah's Witness board. However, there are many people on here with decades and decades of experience with the Witnesses. I was raised in it and spent 22+ years in it.
The JW's do not believe in the trinity. They believe that God is Jehovah and his Son is Jesus. Two seperate people. Just like you are your father's son. Allied in cause yes. But unique individuals. Also, the "holy spirit" is God's active force. A part of him. Not a seperate identity...just a description of how God excercises his power. Make sense?
Also, the JW's do not put any flag of any nation or organization in their KH (Kingdom Halls = temple, church, etc.). They believe in strict neutrality with regards to this. (However there has been some violation of this as they have had a 10 year relationship with the United Nations that they broke off about 4 years ago. You can go to the UN website and type in Watchtower) They believe Jesus taught that they should be no part of this world and pay Ceasar's things to Ceasar. So therefore they do not support any governments but will abide by their laws so long as they do not conflict with their own beliefs. That being said... there have been instances of "conflict", but I will leave that to you to ask about or do further research as I'm not sure exactly how in-depth your research is going to go. -

Guns and JWs
by VM44 indid the watchtower society ban jw's from owning handguns for self defence?.
if they did, when did they issue the ban?.
didn't some of jesus's apostles carry a sword when the group traveled, to protect agains wild animals and human thieves?

Well depending on the size of the force it what will determine it I guess. If he is in a small city and has to carry his gun in the field and whatnot he's at risk. If he is really in administration only and not out in the field he'll be ok. At least that's my understanding of the JW's stance...but then again they tilt at windmills anyway, so who knows.
