I'm sure you've all had the experience of opening up a Watchtower, reading an article and saying "who in the world wrote this nonsense?" It gives credence to what I've always felt - they didn't know what they were talking about!

Barb Anderson relates amazing info about Knorr, also Senior Bethel Writers
by Dogpatch in"is it possible that many of the organizational sexual policies began when (in the late 70s early 80s?
) some of the people at bethel and even some of the gb were found out to be visiting gay bars?
i did hear about some bethelites visiting gay bars or engaging in homosexual acts in the late 70s and early 80s and were asked to leave bethel.

NYC Witnesses vs. others
by Nellie inrather than hijack another thread, i thought about this ..... when you live in ny and having a bethelite in your congregation is commonplace - bethel, the gb, cos, etc.
don't have that same "mysticism" or "it factor" that they have in other parts of the country.
i grew up with these people, knew many of them and guess what - they're just people!.

Now regarding 1975 and other great prophesies of our time - I think the closer you are to the fire, the warmer it is! That's why there could be such a difference in perception regarding October 1, 1975 across the board. The fire's center is in NY, by the time it reaches out to Cali, Florida, Wyoming, etc., the local brothers don't "feel" the warmth or the urgency as much. They were much more capable of being objective and skeptical than those in NY. I've been in Florida for almost 20 years, and I definitely noticed this difference as soon as I moved here.

The Blue Pill?
by Nellie init can't all be wrong, can it?
put the principles aside - is everything we learned and believed wrong?
what is the armageddon the bible talks about?

fairchild - I agree. That's where I am right now - I'm almost afraid to say I believe in anything, but that doesn't fit right either. I definitely believe in God - it's everything else I'm leery about putting my faith in.

Where isn't addressed - how is.
I've had issues with the generational teaching ever since they changed it. As a matter of fact, that was probably when I swallowed the blue pill. I sat there at the assembly wondering what the heck was going on. That was one of the corner stones of our belief system being wiped out and "most" accepted the change without question - like it was a "treat" this "new brighter understanding" - when all the while I was reeling from disbelief and shock.
Anyway, regarding that "I got you". Doctrinally speaking, however, I just wonder if EVERY thing I believed to be truth, to be fact, to be information that I knew to be correct (even if different from the rest of the world), is actually wrong? I mean how could it ALL be wrong???

Chronic fatigue syndrome/fibromyalgia...
by Quentin inmy daughter has been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome/fibromyalgia.
several questions: are they one in the same, are there any good web sites to look over?
also, when she was young she was abused/molested over a several year period.

Hi. Sorry to hear about your daughter. I was actually diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1989. Simply put, fibro is chronic fatigue syndrome PLUS pain. The diagnosis is usually made when 11 or more of 18 points on the body are painful when touched. These points are usually called "target" points, because although they are painful, the pain usually comes from other places, known as trigger points. Personally, I have one large target point, behind my right shoulder blade which always hurts, but occassionally flares up from time to time. I usually describe the pain as what I imagine a lighted match would feel like if suddenly placed on my shoulder. The doctors have described it as acid buildup in the muscle. Hence, the fire pain.
As a family member I would like to caution you to look out for depression. Unfortunately, it is a very common part of the syndrome - with good reason. You're tired, you can't sleep (sometimes you have insomnia) and even when you do sleep, you wake up more tired than when you went to bed. You hurt - everywhere - and yet you LOOK fine. In fact to the untrained eye, you just look lazy! Encourage her to do what she can and to accept what she can't. With supplements and diet changes, she can improve her symptoms, but they won't ever really go away. It's like someone with arthritis - you have good days and bad days. Tell her to make the best of the good days, get to bed regularly (it really does help not to stay up too late) and try massage and relaxation methods. It does help.
My best to her ... I need to take my own advice now and go to bed!

It can't ALL be wrong, can it?
Put the principles aside - is everything we learned and believed wrong? What is the Armageddon the bible talks about? Who is the Faithful and Discrete Slave? And my personal favorite: Who is God and how does he want to be worshipped?

Worldly people are...
by mrsjones5 in.
insert any racist thought or saying you have ever heard after "worldly people are...".. i say this because earlier this morning i was thinking about things i have heard from my parents, extended family, and so-called friends about how evil or nasty worldy people are and if you think about it you can insert "worldly people" into any racist phrase and it would sound like something a jw would say.. i called that religious bigotry.. josie

I remember when my oldest child was about 4 or 5 - I don't even remember what we were talking about, but anyway he said people who weren't JW's were "Satan worshipers". While I was horrified, I remember the book study conductor was gleeful ! I immediately sat him down and straightened him out - I could never abide by the holier-than-I attitude that many witnesses have.

by blondie incuriosity might prompt you to viisit a chat room that claims to be a place where witness youths from around the world can make new friends.. harbor insidious dangers for christians.

Blondie - I also remember sitting at the hall listening to a talk about the dangers of the computer as a whole. One brother/sister (whatever) went on to say how "demons" and viruses could actually enter your home through the computer, whether it was turned off or on! No one bothered to correct or contradict them!
