i was reading another post about a "dear old circuit overseers wife" and it immediately brought back to mind an experience i had with one that wasn't so dear at all .
.. i "knew" this woman before she went into the circuit work with her husband.
granted, i didn't know her well - but i had moved into her congregation a few weeks before she and her husband left to go into the circuit work.
As I said in my previous post - I'm waaay past this woman and her narrow-minded opinions! Yes, she was one of those "it would have killed her if she had gotten pregnant class" - she'd probably have forced a miscarriage before she'd let her tiny waist expand in the horrors of pregnancy.
Anyone else care to share?

Thanks guys for your support - but this happened many years and 3 kids ago! I'm now the proud mother of four! It's a shame that this still bites! I wonder what kind of other damage she's left behind in her travels?

just want to know if it is normal practice for the elder giving your wedding talk to ask you and your partner if youve had sex, about 1 week before youre due to get married?.
happened to us, and we were f'in shocked!.
My husband and I had dated for almost 4 years - The brother giving the talk was "cool" - he asked us "something" but phrased it in such a way that we were able to fudge an answer without anybody being pinned down. I knew I always liked him!

The background: I lost 2 pregnancies before my son and one after him. (She didn't know this.) We were attending our district convention, and was finally comfortable enough with this pregnancy to tell others about it and start rejoicing! She walked up to me and hugged me "hello" and asked what was going on. I immediately smiled and said, "I'm pregnant." Now I expected this CIRCUIT OVERSEER'S WIFE to say "congratulations" - I expected this CIRCUIT OVERSEER'S WIFE to smile and give me a hug . . . to my surprise, what I got was a total look of revulsion on her face as she reared back and said "OHH NO! I'm soo sorry!" I wanted to say "what the fu-- is your problem?" What I did say is "I only have one son, you know." She then said something like, "well if you're happy," and walked away. I stood there stunned - to this day all I can think about is what if she had said that to someone else who was depressed over being pregnant? Can you imagine the damage she could have done? A weaker woman could have walked away and slit her wrists! A few weeks later, I lost the baby - I played with the idea of writing her and telling her she could rejoice now! I didn't - I'm a better person than that! But I've never forgotten her and I've never forgiven her either! I wish I had punched her in the face!

My experiences in the org is that the congregations as a whole speak with forked tongue. While there may not be any overt racial writings coming out in the publications - the people IN the congregations act in an entirely different manner.. .
My husband and I walked into a congregation once (we were moving into the area) and the room was divided by an aisle down the center. My immediate first reaction was that the blacks were sitting on one side and the whites were sitting on the other. Without hesitation, I immediately walked to the white side and sat down - my husband was following behind me. After we got home, I asked him if he had noticed anything weird about the hall - he said "yeah, the way it was divided - blacks and whites" Now the funny thing about this congregation is that the PO was BLACK.
Here in Florida, there is a big thing between those who speak spanish and those who don't. While skin color is not the issue on my side of town, the overall community feeling (even outside the org) is a we vs. them attitude. During the meetings most are friendly, but outside the meetings there is separation. Of course, money is also a great divider! Now on the other side of town, the skin color issue prevails.
i just watched the local bbc news and there was a story about a woman who'd fed her baby while sitting on a public bench.
she finished and was on her way when a police car drew up beside her and asked her to stop.
there had been a complaint.
This reminds me of a friend of mine who was fired from his job because of sexual harrassment - Here's the harrassment: A woman co-worker overheard him having a conversation with another woman co-worker about the benefits of breastfeeding. Although the woman was not a part of the conversation, she was significantly disturbed by their conversation to report him and the corporation fired him. The good news - He sued them and got his job back with back pay. It took many months and lots of legal fees, but it was resolved.
i'm new to posting here, but i've been lurking for awhile trying to find out more about the jw life, as i have a dear friend who is a jw, but there are many things i don't understand about him, and how he treats our friendship.
i came right out and asked him once if it was true that he was not allowed to be friends with people outside of his religion, and he said "no, but we are encouraged to spend our time with "like-minded" people and that he had other friends besides me who weren't jw.
we met at work and seemed to be very close, but i've always felt some aloofness.
Welcome! I think Dave hit the nail on the head rather well. As a witness, we are told that "friendship with the world is emnity with God." I, however, could never accept this standard because I always thought that my mother (a non-witness) was one of the most spiritual and GOOD people I ever met. I could not accept that she was worthy of God's wrath. That mindset allowed me to have and make friends outside the organization - but I struggled with guilt about it from time-to-time. No doubt, your friend also has this same guilt and believes that the best thing for him to do is separate himself from you.
My advice, continue being his friend to the best of your ability. Apply the knowledge about the religion that you find here (but not necessarily share the fact that you've been here) and hope that he will find his path.
Earlier this year when I decided that I was through being a witness, I went to all my non-witness friends and explained to them my decision. While they supported me as a friend, I realized that they really didn't understand the significance of my decision. Whereas they are all different religions and freely welcome as friends, people of all religions (including me as a witness) - I had to tell them that as a practicing witness I was not supposed to have had THEM as MY friends. That allowing our relationship to develop to friendship had been a total act of rebellion on my part. Of course, they didn't know that and then could appreciate the place I had been in and then all that my decision meant. Curiously, none of my witness friends have continued to pursue my friendship.

in articles concerning the internet, some of which have been titled "a balanced view of the internet", the watchtower devotes the first paragraph or two to the benefits that the internet offers and has provided.
.
then for the rest of the article they go on and on about the dangers and evils of the internet.. they have been consistent in writing in this manner in all the articles they have written concerning the internet.. can the watchtower itself truly be said to have a "balanced" view of the internet?.
R6 - The other thing that cannot be overlooked are the comments that are made at the meeting discussions of these magazines. I remember about 2 1/2 years ago at a WT study discussing the internet someone commenting that "even off" viruses and demons could enter your computer. Needless to say, I rolled my eyes at the comment - but NO ONE corrected this person's viewpoint and I'm sure there are those who left the meeting believing this hogwash!
