My oldest came home from college - I saved the star on the top for him! He was sooo touched! He's wanted this for a very long time! Now THAT'S a memory, I'll never forget!

When is a fade finished?
by Nellie inso i was thinking - if i don't da myself and they don't df me, am i doomed forever to this limbo called "fade?
" when do i stop worrying about "what if they find out?
" when will they (if they saw me) just think of me as someone they knew, rather than "one of their flock" - even when they know i'm inactive?

It's amazing how a little time can change your decisions about things. My son graduated from high school 2 years ago. During his HS days, his school always did a holiday fundraiser in the mall where they wrapped holiday gifts. Of course, this was something that we never participated in. Even his senior year, when we were beginning our "fade" - I remember saying to him, "How would you feel if a witness walked by and you were behind the booth wrapping gifts?" Which in translation was: "I'm not ready to be confronted by my desire to leave the organization."
Well, fast forward 2 years - today we were walking the mall and happened upon the booth. Even though he's out of the school, he still knew a few of the people there and it was really crowded. We both jumped in and stayed for 2 hours wrapping gifts. It wasn't until I was riding home that I had the thought, "I wonder if anyone saw us. Ohh well, whatever, I don't care."
Man, times have changed!

If You Had Internet Access Years Ago----Would You Have Gotten Out Sooner?

I'd like to think so - but the reality of it is - they call it "brain washing" for a reason. Until you're ready to hear the truth, nothing and no one can make you accept it. I had opportunity and desire (I was really really curious after Ray Franz was disfellowshipped), but I wasn't ready.

Having a hard time with this, what to do, what to do
by nonamegiven infor those who don't know my story (look up past posts, i posted it) here's the cliff's notes.. i was df'd about 10 weeks ago for things other than apostacy.
i plan in being reinstated to keep communication with my family (wife and i were raised in the........tr......tru.........truth) so i am still going to the meetings.. well, for any that don't know my wife had a baby thursday woo-hoo!
anyway, the cong we are in is actually fairly loving and it's quite a shock to me since it's very different from what i have experienced for the last 30+ years.

The flip side of this story could be that they "the friends" could've chosen not to support your wife at this time - knowing that supporting her was also supporting you. I mean, they're not brining over single-serving size dishes I assume. I know many witnesses who wouldn't dare step foot in your house - whether it was to help your wife or not. None of that condones their rudeness and that's shameful, but not surprising.

Did anyone ever rebel to play school sports
by Billzfan23 inhow many of you who grew up in the truth truly loved a sport and fought hard against your jw parents to get to play it?
post your experience here.
my determination to play come hell or high water led to my mother turning me over to the state as a youngster, which then lead to foster care and freedom until i foolishly came back to the borg as an adult.

My husband snuck around and forged his parents signatures on parental forms when he was in high school. Fast forward years later . . . . we allowed our kids to start playing optimist basketball and tackle football. Week after week, their names and sometimes pictures were reported in the newspaper. Mind you, these same adults, who sneared about my kids playing sports have season tickets to the Dolphins and Heat. It was hysterical watching them jet out of the hall to get to a 1:00 or 2:00 game! I wish one of them had said something to me!!!

LOL - You guys are hilarious!
So, basically, the only way to end it all is to end it all. My husband is of the F 'em and feed them beans mentality. Doesn't see the need to DA because who really cares anyway. No one (absolutely no one) of my congregational "friends" have sought me out in years. I can see the upside to DAing - just knowing that it's over - maybe it's a female thing - needing closure. But on the other hand, I don't want to invest the emotional energy into a letter that I know the society wont care about anyway.

The kids love the tree - I only wish it would snow!
Of course, since we live in Florida, there's a snowball's chance in ---- that it'll happen. Maybe one year we'll visit NY for all the festivities!

So I was thinking - If I don't DA myself and they don't DF me, am I doomed forever to this limbo called "fade?" When do I stop worrying about "what if they find out?" When will they (if they saw me) just think of me as someone they knew, rather than "one of their flock" - even when they know I'm inactive? Is there a time limit on the fade? It's been 2 years since we were at a meeting, that's 2 missed memorials, no conventions or assemblies, no CO visit attendances, etc. When will I stop being inactive and become GONE to them?

I bought a Christmas Tree!! The kids kept asking me, "Are we celebrating Xmas this year?" They asked the same thing last year. You told me to do it - you said because it was "FUN!" I hemmed and hawed and twiddled my thumbs and as I walked through Walmart today I said to myself, this is a memory I want to give them.
So for my kids, I bought a tree. It's a fake one - I figure next year I'll (ahem) put it outside the front door and get a REAL one for inside... but it's a beginning! A new beginning . . . Now if I can only get past the thought, "Who's gonna come by and visit?"
