Congrats and welcome to the club!
just a little breaking news:.
after several years of a great friendship with diane (previously posted as xena) things have started to really come together recently and i've succumbed to making an honest woman of her (or at least as honest as it's possible to make her.
last night (xmas day) i popped the question and she agreed to marry me (i wonder if she knows what she's let herself in for!!!)..

Sorry, I couldn't get through the whole thing - I'll try again another day. I didn't chuckle once, much less laugh . . .
some big and small news are floating around about.
prince, out to help mj.
michael jackson, back to the goodoldusa, will he stay?.
Selena??? That wasn't covered in her movie.
there was a brother brought up in the borg who realized that to marry his girlfriend (daughter of an elder) he would need to get baptized.. went through the motions of the questions etc and then at the local circuit assembly it was time for those seated at the front ready for baptism to stand and answer the two questions put to them from the platform.
only problem was, this brother was not sitting at the front but was stood at the back.
as the questions were being asked to the twenty or so standing the local elders were in a bit of a panic looking around for the new brother.
I got baptized at the ripe old age of 13. My mother was NOT a witness, but she accompanied me to the assembly - actually it was a one day assembly and the baptism took place the day before. So there I am sitting with my mother, the sister who studied with me, etc. Since there wasn't a full assembly, we didn't have a separate place to sit. And then they asked us to stand - at the same time my mother decided to start talking to me. Being the ever obedient daughter, I was paying more attention to my mother than the brother giving the talk and all I caught was him asking something about "Satan." So when he asked the question, I immediately yelled out "No!" Everyone else around me LOOKED and I changed my answer to "Yes."
Still don't know what I thought he said - or what I answered to - hey is this my loophole - should my baptism be nullified?
my grandmother and grandfather are both jehovah's witnesses.. i dont understand much about their religion just that they dont celebrate holidays such as christmas.. well today i went over to their house for a visit since they live 2 hours away and my cousins were there too.. we were all in the kitchen eating cookies and my brother said that we baked cookies but ours were for santa clause.
well then my grandma said that she doesnt celebrate christmas and she doesnt believe in santa.
so i say "well i do" and she says "well that means youre naiive and decieved".
My son will be 20 years old this week. I can still remember an incident that happened when he was @ 3. He was talking to me about people who weren't Jehovah's Witnesses and he referred to them as Satan worshipers. Now, mind you, he NEVER heard that from either me or his father - but that's what he had picked up from being around witnesses his whole life. Now if a 3 year old can reach this conclusion, imagine what years on years of that kind of indoctrination can do to a brain. I'm sure your grandmother didn't mean to be hurtful, but she's repeating what she's been told to say. Much like a child abuser is taught what to say when being questioned about their bruises.
huge news everyone!
i recently had a breakthrough with my mom.
we were debating last night for several hours, during which time brought up the mexico/malawi situation, which she of course being a faithful and blind witness, knew nothing about.
The gist of what I remember is that the "party card" the Malawi brothers had to get was misrepresented to us - because the Malawi government is only ONE party. Not Republican/Democrat, etc. This card equates to our Social Security card - something that the government requires us to have in order to function as a citizen in the country. They were told they were not allowed to get the card which led to their imprisonment, etc. Inconceivable, I know!
In Mexico, the government required each (male?) to do one year of service in the military - after which they would get a card which proved their compliance. The way around doing the year was to bribe the officers. Each card cost $1,000 - the GB gave them the green light to pay the bribe - saving them from both doing their service and suffering the consequences of not doing their service. They got their card - while the Malawian brothers died.
i bought a christmas tree!!
the kids kept asking me, "are we celebrating xmas this year?
" they asked the same thing last year.
TS - Thanks for the idea! I will definitely do the ornament thing next year! I didn't buy any special ornaments this year - only the colored balls, bows and tinsel for the tree. Next year WATCH OUT!
I've got the egg nog and cocoa for hot chocolate and I'm going out today to buy some music. We're gonna have our big dinner on Christmas Eve, have dessert and drinks and open one gift. (That I remember from childhood.)
i usually tell them i'm da.i tend to feel like it's my way of respecting their belief that way.when i was a dub i wouldn't have wanted to talk to a df or da ed person.i was at a family wedding a couple of weeks ago and lots of people came up and said hi to me.people who know who i am and know i'm da ed.i was polite and said hi back but i didn't really talk to anyone unless they talked to me first.i'm asking this question because my second cousin came up to me and said hi.he asked how i was doing i said i'm great.then i told him i'm da ed.he said really i said yes it's been 8 happy years since i left.then i walked away.i think i was rude.what do you say when people come up to you and say hi?
?
Since I'm not da'd or df'd and I liked most of them, when I see them I speak. So far, they've all spoken back - even those who know I'm inactive.

Yes it does. Now I can't wait until they unwrap!!!
to be honest, the first chapter is awful, horribly written, and feels almost like the author feels he has to justify himself with the book.. now, that being said, the chapters on legalism and double standards, 1975, "this generation", and so forth are brilliant, powerful, and should be read by every one of jehovah's witnesses.. just my thoughts..
I remember the day my book arrived in the mail - I thought OMG this book is soo big (mind you I'm an avid reader) - there were a few chapters that I jumped around a bit - but all in all - WOW - the questions it answers! The followup book "In Search for Christian Freedom" is equally as large and equally beneficial. Enjoy!!!
