I came to a disturbing realization today
by Stealth453 inthis morning, someone mistakenly text my cell phone asking that i send them some money.
the text was addressed to "paul".
my wife read the text, and jokingly asked me if i was "pretending to be paul".. i answered her, "paul?

Wow, hadn't thought of it that way before, but yes I was acting for many years. I think that I've been able to let go of that now, mostly because I happen to be with somebody who liked me just the way he found me (now I'm thinking of another Billy Joel song!). He was surprised when I turned out to be not as confident and courageous as I used to act though.

Cried myself to sleep last night
by unique1 ini was laying in bed and trying to drift off to sleep.
all of a sudden i had a vision of my father building our dining room table.
we moved when i was four and this was at our old house so i must have been pretty young.

Holiday to Tasmania and my incredible book find
by jwfacts ini have just spent the last few days in tasmania, where i was born and raised until the age of 20. my grandmother is a jw in her 80's but let me stay at her house because "no one is going to tell her she can not speak to her own family".
i visited relatives and friends, and found that almost everyone that i grew up with are no longer jws.
it was quite eye-opening; some have become christians, some have new age beliefs, some are athiests.

I so want to go to Tassie, probably this xmas.
She thinks it is funny that I was a 100% full on JW, and now I am a 100% full on apostate.
Maybe all of us here are cursed with that same crazy gene.
She moved on and could not care less about it anymore.
I'll have what she's having.

Have a fun weekend anyway! We're going to Perisher on Monday, this weekend is our anniversary and we found a cute little mountain cabin near Bega. I've gone and ruined it by catching the flu. Perisher still has full cover but a lot of areas are turning to corn, so Monday is our last chance I reckon. Mr Frass has really gotten into it!

My mom got disfellowshipped.
by reneeisorym inmy mom called tonight to tell me that she got disfellowshipped!!!!.
of course to me this is like the greatest news ever and to her its the worst ever so i'm seriously having a hard time being sympathetic.
i just know this could mean she's out for good and it definately means i've got my mom back.

She's more likely to notice something is wrong from the lack of love the whole bunch has.
My tip: just get her busy in some new interest that puts her in contact with a lot of people who like the same thing. She needs to notice that there really is a lot of love out there. Enrol her on some short course and go with her, tell her it's to cheer her up and keep her busy.

Makes you want to spit!
by Gill ini aught not to laugh about this.....but it's one of those situations where you either laugh or cry!.
we found out that my husband's sister was df'd a few months ago.
we attempted to contact her but she will not speak to us and is still shunning us as apparantly we are 'spiritually weak' and she is attempting to be reinstated into the congregation.

Yeah I don't know. If I could identify what did it for me I'd tell you. I can only say that being dfd was the second-best thing that ever happened to me (my husband is the best!). Those elders did me a great favour, and I hope that one day I get to thank them for it. If they'd shown mercy I'd still be in.
Anyway. Yes she'd be having a very very bad time. You can only hope. She might be so yearning company that she googles JWs and find out some tiny fact that helps release her mind. She might not. We just wait and hope and laugh.

Do you have any assembly memories/stories?
by RisingEagle inon an earlier thread about ice cream i remembered a snack that was sold at assemblies and that started me thinking about some of my memories of childhood at conventions/assemblies.
i guess it was the taste/smell association because even today when i go to various convention halls for home improvement expos, car shows and the like it takes me right back to the past.
i have many memories wrapped around the conventions and experienced different things because i have lots of elders in the family that were used, literally, for food service, the accounting office, security and dramas.

There was this guy I grew up with, everybody thought we'd get married (well, until he was dfd for assaulting a minor and no, his now adult victim didn't and doesn't want to involve the police). One time we found a crate of cans of lemonade, shook each one up and opened them trying to get the biggest spurt. Another time we raced each other across the creek balancing on the water pipe that was strung a couple of metres above it. Another time we stood at the entrance gate waving people goodbye, pretending to cry like we'd miss them, people thought it was so cute until we threw a sand rock at their car.
Okay in my defence I'd like to point out that that was the absolute worst behaviour I ever displayed as a child. I also remember many many many boring assemblies when I didn't do anything naughty at all.

Our company has gone home
by Mulan inwe have had company (ex jw's) from england, for six days and they left early this morning to go home.. it was a great week.
they met our entire family, we went camping, a day trip to the san juan islands, and it was so much fun.
it was like a six day party.. and...........except for some funny stories about conventions in the 60's, we didn't even talk about having been jw's.

The dramas are done in the US, and the American English doesn't always convey what they expect in Britain.
A lot gets lost in translation in Australia too. Or are they supposed to be a big cheese corn dog?
