The second time we went through the Rev book was fun because the first time, I put little diary entries in the margins about what was going on in my life that week. Same thing for the second. By the third, I was no longer attending.

How many will bother going to the bookstudy between now and January?
by DT inif i were still in, i would find it hard to be excited about going to the book study now that i know it is doomed.
the revelation book has already been hashed to death.
the silly five finger death grip illustration doesn't apply any more.

It's good that the law has found ways around the ability of parents to be completely wrong about what's best for their children. Frankly I think that deep down, the parents are glad about it too.

When You Were a JWD Newbie - Were You Shown a Warm Welcome ?
by flipper inone thing we all have in common - everybody who started posting on jwd , were all " new " posters in the beginning on this board.
so take yourself back in time for a minute - how were you received here ?
did people welcome you warmly ?

Absolutely. My first thread was from work, written within days of a JC disfellowshipping me. I'd been on the board for maybe five minutes. Some security thing went wrong and the essay I'd written with my story disappeared, so it just posted the subject: "I'm about to be disfellowshipped". I got peeved that all my writing had disappeared and gave up, but weeks after was back again and discovered that a couple of dozen strangers had taken just that one short cry for help and run to support me. It was the kindest thing that had happened to me in a long time, and I really needed it.
I love everybody here!

Your JW Relatives Have 2 Personalities - Cult & Authentic- See the Change
by flipper inin steve hassan's book, " combatting cult mind control" - one of the points that assisted me the most is understanding that all cult members have a " cult " personality which turns on when defending their faith, and they have an authentic, non - cult personality they were born with- the personality they had before being programmed by the jehovah's witnesses or any other " cult".
how is this dual cult/ authentic personality manifest ?
hassan mentions in his book that, " one moment the person is speaking cultic jargon with a hostile or elitist know-it-all attitude .

I had a non-JW boyfriend point it out once; he just said 'you're a completely different person in your meeting clothes'. It made me think about why I'm two-faced.

Long last letter to dad...please comment-not mailed yet
by dawg indad, .
i doubt youll even read this letter since it comes from your son, a son youve abandoned over your religious views, but i wanted to write you one final letter to see if theres any hope that you can come to your senses as far as this religion goes and we can renew our relationship.
im doing this because i care for you and mom deeply and feel very much distressed that you two refuse to see anyones opinion as being factual other than your own when it concerns the jw religion.

Don't treat the letter as a place to air your final grievances with him. Accept that you may never be able to resolve these issues with him in person; that you might have to do that without him knowing.

That's an intense letter. But it's the one you write to keep for yourself - it's not the one you send. The last letter you send only says how much you love him, and that if he ever changes his mind your door is open to him. You look back on some great times that you had with him and how you'll treasure those memories. You tell him that you wish you could be there for him as he gets older, but accept that you can't be if that is his wish. You tell him that he can contact you anytime.
That will get to him as a father on a much more important level than what he'd consider an attack on his beliefs. It also has to be something kind, gentle and simple in order to be something that stays in his mind and heart. If you are negative in any way he will dismiss it immediately, and you will have lost your 'last chance'.
