I was going to do a little survey on which would be the best way to leave, but in reality there's no way to do so that doesn't hurt. Several times I've wondered if I should have started earlier, been more or less abrupt... I could go on a lot about should-have-beens, but point is, I'm out now and happier than I ever thought I could be, and VERY glad that it happened, despite the pain it caused for a while.

Did I do wrong on skeeping the "fading" stage?
by flag inup to last month i was a witness in "good" standing in the cong.
i was not from the elite circle but everybody respects me and a lot of people go to me for advice or comfort when they feel left out by "holy ones".
so, i don't know if i made a mistake by cutting all jw activities at once because now i think i'm the topic of the conversation and phone calls already started to come this past weekend.

How does Shunning feel?
by DaveNwisconsin injust curious as i had never really been a true jehovah witness.
i would think that you make friends and suddenly you don't exist.
i would think a board like this is a true godsend.

Balsam and Dave said it best for me, and I haven't even had a shunning 'event' yet, just put myself through the humiliation of attending meetings where it is just like being the mountain with the Douglas Adams 'Somebody Elses Problem' field installed over it, if you know what that is. You can't see it, you can walk all over it without feeling it, and your mind just lets it go, because there's something there but it's Somebody Elses Problem.

the term 'removed my privileges'...
by jaffacake in.
and what other measures can be taken against a jw who does something the elders dissapprove of, short of disfellowshipping?.
(this may sound like a dumb question but i was never a jw)

A practical upshot of loss of 'privileges' is usually that the person didn't really want to answer up at every boring meeting anyway.

Shunned on my home turf for the first time!
by AlmostAtheist inlong story short -- my father-in-law and uncle-in-law came today to buy some appliances from a friend of ours.
while my father-in-law seemed willing to stretch the "necessary family business" clause to its limits to talk and joke and be basically human, my uncle was cold as a witch's dead penguin.
if i said anything to him related to the task at hand, he answered as minimally as possible.

NICE! Lay the rules; your home is your home, and if they're not going to respect you there, they're not welcome.

Those 'saved moments from suicide' experiences (fluff)
by sass_my_frass inmy aunt has just learned that i still believe in iftheresagod, so i'm on her re:god email list, and this just in.
i like it because of how many times i've heard an 'experience' that somebody was moments from suicide and a jw called on them:
isn't it amazing how god works in our lives!

My aunt has just learned that I still believe in IfTheresAGod, so I'm on her re:god email list, and this just in. I like it because of how many times I've heard an 'experience' that somebody was moments from suicide and a JW called on them: Isn't it amazing how God works in our lives! On a Saturday night several weeks ago, this pastor was working late, and decided to call his wife before he left for home. It was about 10:00 PM , but his wife didn't answer the phone. The pastor let the phone ring many times. He thought it was odd that she didn't answer, but decided to wrap up a few things and try again in a few minutes. When he tried again she answered right away. He asked her why she hadn't answered before, and she said that it hadn't rung at their house. They brushed it off as a fluke and went on their merry ways. The following Monday, the pastor received a call at the church office, which was the phone that he'd used that Saturday night. The man that he spoke with wanted to know why he'd called on Saturday night. The pastor couldn't figure out what the man was talking about. Then the man said, "It rang and rang, but I didn't answer." The pastor remembered the mishap and apologized for disturbing him, explaining that he'd intended to call his wife. The man said, "That's, OK. Let me tell you my story. You see, I was planning to commit suicide on Saturday night, but before I did, I prayed, 'God if you're there, and you don't want me to do this, give me a sign now.' At that point my phone started to ring. I looked at the caller ID, and it said, 'Almighty God'. I was afraid to answer!" The reason why it showed on the man's caller ID that the call came from "Almighty God" is because the church that the pastor attends is called Almighty God Tabernacle!!

Curious as to what a wedding at the KH is like...
by Riverwatcher ini don't know why this has popped into my head.
just wondering about j/w weddings.. is there music?
are there any traditions used in the ceremony?

By not allowing the Kingdom Hall to be used by a Witness who plans to ‘become unevenly yoked with an unbeliever,’ the congregation elders can underscore the seriousness of God’s counsel to marry "only in the Lord
... yawn. I think IfTheresAGod avoids KH weddings for their total lack of love and inspiration towards it.
I like to think that IfTheresAGod dropped in on mine briefly, to take in the spectacular view over the mountain range with the rainforest behind us. Put on some gorgeous weather for us too. I can't think of a more depressing place to take your vows to share your life with someone than on the same stage you've had to stare at three boring times a week for your entire life thus far.
Just before I got the boot, I attended a JW couples' wedding outside a KH. They were put under a lot of pressure by their Elder Body to have the ceremony in the KH as it 'brings glory to Jehovah'. I think there was a lot more glory to god happening in the garden they chose than would have been if they'd had it in their shabby, gloomy, stinky hall with the plastic seats and plants.
... then again, they will always be *under suspicion* by their congregation; 'what did they do to disqualify them from having the wedding at the KH?'

The groom always vows to 'love and honour'. The bride also, but she also has to vow to 'respect'.

WALKING IN THE PATH OF INCREASING LIGHT - WT STUDY
by Mary infor those of you not "keeping up with the organization"botchtower deals soley with all the bullshit instances of "increased light" on this joke of a religion god's organization.
it asks many drone-like thought-provoking questions as i've listed below.
incredible that these guys claim to be the sole ownership of what is absolute "truth", yet change doctrines like i change lipsticks.

I like atypical's take; countering common apostate assertions that the flip-flops over the years have really been quite trivial haven't they now folks, ha ha we used to allow smoking and now we don't, aren't we BLESSED? Those apostates make such a big deal about it, but really it's just proof that Jehovah is looking after us and educating us in small ways.
If there is something big about to change, I'm with I think Sir82 in that it will be something lame and dull to do with who is now qualified to be in the Governing Body. Blood, and disfellowshipping; that's about the only way they're different from any other church; they can't lose those.
Gotta get me one of those articles, just for amusement factor.
"Where else can I go?" Oh it's so controlling I could scream. I can hear three family members saying it right now.

I asked and down came the wall
by KW13 inmy aunt is a lesbian.
i am no longer a witness but i wanted to see how bulletproof jw beliefs are.. so jehovah is against homosexuals and they will be destroyed at armaggedon but with his power homosexuals can go to meetings and stop sinning, was my mums explanation....erm.... people with a different genetic make-up who can't help being what they are will be able to stop these feelings before the new order, in that case its a miracle, jehovah doesn't do miracles right now....that's something alright.
ok now how on earth are they supposed to cut off physical emotions?

Hey I still don't get what lions are supposed to eat. I saw Madagascar, they like steak, and steak is made from animals. They could also be partial to sushi, but that's made of fish. So we know that at least the fish will be predated. I hope that something eats aphids, they're disgusting little critters.
