Wow--I'm surprised, even the most loyal Dubs usually have more honor for health and life than that. I'm a redhead with freckles, so I stay out of the sun as much as possible. I hate to think what her skin will look like years down the road when the big A doesn't come.

CYP--LOVE your new picture!
RR--you had me rolling as I read through this whole thread.
Don't get upset at AFIN, I think his/her whole intention is to upset people. I really feel sorry for AFIN because he/she sounds unintelligent, uncaring, and unhappy.

I haven't finished reading through this whole thread, but want to put my 2 cents in. My sister and I used to sneak out to go to meeting etc because my parents weren't JW's. I am afraid that if you verbally say something to your wife about not taking the kids out in service, the elders will encourage her to go behind your back because you will be viewed as an opposer. And the kids may get the idea that it's kind of fun and cool to do secret JW things that Daddy doesn't know about.
My advice to you is to be subtle and sly. Plan fun activities for the kids those days--maybe not every single Thursday but 2 or 3 out of the month when possible. If your wife complains, you might say that you don't mind her taking the kids out in service once in a while but that you want them to have some summer fun too. Is summer school an option? Also--spend some "Daddy" time with your kids away from your wife as much as possible, so they can get to know that their "worldly" dad is not such a bad guy. And talk, talk, talk to your kids--let them know whatever doubts you have about "God's Organization" and let them know things you have learned about WT scandals and cover-ups as they mature--but let them know that those issues upset their mother. Build a strong relationship with them when they are young, don't wait until they are rebellious teenagers!
I wish you much luck for a very difficult situation.

I've been thinking about letting a Christian Church rebaptise me. The only baptism I ever had was a JW one.

Do JWs ever use their donations/WT profits to help the less-fortunate?
by sonnyboy ini was a jw for a number of years as a kid, but i don't remember them doing anything to help the community.
many churches in my area have soup kitchens, clothing/toy drives, and other services to help people in need.
do jehovah's witnesses ever use proceeds in this way, or are they all used to make more watchtowers, books, and kingdom halls?

No they don't lift a finger to help others, but it's ok for the JW's to use welfare and any other government hand-outs. The only help they ever give is building Kingdumb Hells and Assembly Hells if they are destroyed by natural disasters.
I really enjoy giving a dollar or two to local charities at the grocery store when I shop. Especially since there have been times in my past when I needed a hand-out, so I believe it's good Karma or good luck or whatever you want to call it, to try to give back to the community.

Went To A Church Today
by rocketman ini've been waking up so early on sunday mornings that i finally decided to attend a church today.
it's lutheran, and a work associate invited me some time ago.
taking the risk of being uncovered as an apostate (or at least being under suspicion as one) if i'd have been seen entering or leaving the place, off i went anyway for the 8 am service.

I've enjoyed going to several different churches. But I like non-denominational type churches, because I feel that 'religions' tend to make rules, have hard-fast doctrines etc. The Christmas programs are wonderful. I attended a musical based on the country song about the kid who was buying shoes for his dying mother--it was so awesome and it made me cry, it was so well done (Baptist Church). I don't care if Christmas has its roots in Paganism. I feel that the churches cause people to reflect on the birth of Christ and what it meant for us.

Do you ever think that you will stop JW-bashing and get on with your life?
by booker-t ini was recently talking to a girl in my psychology class who told me that she use to be a jw and was df'd in the mid 1990's.
this girl shocked me because usually ex-jws are so unhappy and miserable and spend most of their time complaining about the "evil" wt society.
she told me that when she was df'd alot of ex-jws swarmed towards her trying to get her to "bash" the wt but she refused.

I have gotten on with my life very much so, and I am not a bitter X-JW. I don't even call myself an X-JW, just someone who was involved in it years ago.
I have learned soooooo much on this forum alone the last 2 months. I had no idea about the hidden sexual abuse, the UN scandal, the change in 1995 by the WS, and so many other things. I often thought that the way the congregation behaved in my area was a local issue, now I see that everywhere many but not all of the JW's are pretty nutty. I believe in 'bashing' the religion because I don't like to see people getting lied to their faces and emotionally abused or abused in other ways. If I'm guilty of 'bashing' then so be it, I will be proud to be a 'basher'!
I also have had no contact with any X-JW's since I left years ago, and feel I have a lot in common with many people who post here. So I enjoy finding these new friends online.

If Your Mate Used Drugs, What Would You Do?
by Chloe in.
along the lines of run dont walk's post, i'd like to get your thoughts about your spouse being addicted to drugs, specifically meth.. thanks.

love2Bworldly
Oh--to stay on topic. Specifically meth was what my second husband used and caused me a lot of heartache and embarrassment. He lied to my family and our neighbors to get money for drugs, but I found out way later. My own dad did not tell me he went to my dad's house once in a while to ask for money--makes me mad! I also had to hide my purse and my checkbook from him, because he stole from me, and of course we had money problems--filed bankruptcy, got evicted from our house, etc.
