It's funny you mentioned that. I remember showing my girlfriend my sister's highschool yearbook to see if she knew my sister. She pointed out how different my sister's eyes were compared to the other kids, that they had a 'blank' look about her eyes. She went on to explain to me how people who were involved in cults looked like that. Weird.

What does your name MEAN?
by RichieRich inwe all are identified by our names here on jwd.
some use their real names, and others pick a moniker that is their nickname or perhaps a few words from a song they like.. why did you pick your name?.

love2Bworldly
Hi everyone--I haven't finished reading through this whole thread, but I want to join in too. I picked love2bworldly because I love celebrating holidays, voting, living in America, making new friends, and attending non-JW churches. In other words--living a normal life. My real name comes from a longer name that I think means something like 'dedicated to God.'

JW dating sites and the number of divorced!
by toladest ini was curious to see if i knew anyone that would post on a jw dating site so i checked out jw connections that is linked to on this page.
i did not find anyone i know but i was kinda shocked to see the number of ones there that were "divorced, but free to marry".
is this a big problem now or is it just that more divorced jw's use the web to find "mates".

*** w75 5/15 p. 314 A People Zealous for Fine Works ***
14
The trend toward more aggressiveness and independence by women has produced much strife in the home and a soaring divorce rate. How praiseworthy to see a Christian wife display a zeal for fine works by loving submission to her husband!
I'm with Froggie, I need to hurl now. Excuse me (running to the bathroom)

I wanted to share one more food for thought on this thread. Smelly obviously has never been shunned or mistreated in his part of the world, but he will feel the effects of it some day either on himself or his family members or his friends. Meanwhile he keeps coming back to this board---so I'm sure the information he learns will stay with him and hopefully plant doubts eventually.

Other Types of Abuse...
by RichieRich inanyone who regularly reads this site is well aware of the sexual abuse scandals amongst jw congregations worldwide.
(for those not familiar, visit www.silentlambs.org).
not to make light of those who were sexually abused, but i think there is an epedimic of other types of abuse in the org.. how many here have been, or know of, someone who was "spanked" regularly and excessively?

My parents were not JWs, but I remember crying one time because I couldn't stand the way one lady was constantly beating on her little girl. The girl was just a baby--less than two years old. Little kids have a hard time sitting still for 2 hours for a boring meeting and do not need a spanking when they are just acting like little kids the way nature made them.
I used to walk my babies in the back of the KH if they became restless or noisy. I tried to be sensitive to other people being able to pay attention to the meetings, so I was surprised once when I received a tap on the shoulder by an attendant that my baby was being too noisy and that other people were complaining. Babies go through different stages and before age one, they like to listen to their own voice and will babble--it's very cute; used to really piss me off when people would spank their little babies for babbling.

I don't like Tom Cruize but I am going to see the movie because it looks like fun. I think he is pretty much an arrogant jerk and I could care less about his romantic flings pictured on every magazine cover.

Apostasy - A Racist Movement?
by slimboyfat infirpo carr argues that while many white apostates claim to highlight so-called 'racist' remarks and terminology in the watchtower literature, most such apostates are in fact white and have little real interest in black issues.
they are only interested in the issue in so far as they can use it to promote white anti-witness propaganda, whereas a high percentage of loyal witnesses are black.
i know that all the terms of my topic are debatable: apostacy is a witness term of derogation; apostates probably are mostly liberal and not racist (essentially); and they are not a 'movement' in any case.

I have only seen high percentages of blacks at KHs in parts of town where a high percentage of blacks live. Therefore, in places where there is a higher percentage of blacks--the nonJW churches in those parts of town also have a higher percentage of black church-going folks. DUH This is a stupid thread. There is a higher percentage of whites in America than other races, therefore there is a higher percentage of white JW's and white so called Apostates.
Not rocket science people.

Undercover--but make sure when you do look up the scriptures cited, that you don't go 'beyond the WS' by reading the context of these scriptures to find out the real meaning.

"those assmeblies where everyone is together and calm and peaceful."
Well an assembly of robots, or Stepford wives would accomplish the same mission. I would rather be among these worldly 'apostates' any day. I'm sure most church gatherings--not JWs--also have a peaceful atmosphere.

Sunspot--a person after me own heart!!! I absolutely love Christmas and love spoiling my kids on Christmas. I love to bake a bunch of goodies, have a fire in the fireplace, have a beautifully lit-up Christmas tree, have lights on the house, and decorate decorate decorate! And I love driving around at night looking at all the beautiful lights. It is my favorite time of year, and I am looking forward to it already.
