Thanks for that info, definitely food for thought. I think the Society teaches the upright pole rather than the cross just so they can be different from other churches like so many of their bogus teachings.

PROOF JESUS DIED ON A CROSS
by Mary inwarning: some might find the descriptions here disturbing.
even though there is overwhelming evidence that jesus died on a cross and not an upright state, the organization still stubbornly clings to this feeble idea, siting of course, the ridiculous notion that, because the cross was a 'pagan symbol', jesus couldn't have died on it.
as if the romans gave a damn that the cross was pagan.

But what if they're right............still the Truth?
by ScoobySnax inthis will probably apply to few here, but to me it'll always be that way.
it's the what if syndrome maybe, but it's always there.
i still think that as a core belief system the jw's have it right, even if their delivery isn't always right.

I'm sorry but NO WAY!!! After reading all the abuse cover-ups by the WBTS and elders etc. I would rather die at the big A than support a man-made organization that is responsible for ruining thousands of lives and families.

i was born into a violent abusive JW family
by ania inthe abuser was my father, we were all (7 children) abused severely (including our mother) as a child i did not understand what exactly was going on but after many years of councelling and so-forth (my counceller tells me, my case is the most severe she has had in her 12 years as a counceller) i discovered that my father was (is) a sado-masichist.
he got sexual enjoyment from beating us all.
i already knew this to an extent i just never realised there was actually a name for what he got out of it.. after 20 odd years of this abuse, my mother had tried to go through the right channels (the elders, in several congregations we moved to etc) in order to get permission to take her children and live separate to her husband who was a constant threat to our very lives (he was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic & incrediably unpredictable) she was however told time and again that if she left her husband she and her unbaptised children (under 18) would most certainly lose out on everlasting life.

Welcome--so sorry about you and your family's suffering.
The JWs make me literally sick to my stomach when I read stories like yours, where they make abused people stay in those situations and do nothing about the abuser.

A chilling 9/11 blog:
by SixofNine inthought i'd share this.
warning, it's not an easy read.
also, if you buy this guy's book (about his time as a marine in afghanistan and iraq), you won't be sorry.

What musicians did JWs ban?
by love2Bworldly inok i don't mean to copycat the other thread on movies, but it got me thinking.
i remember throwing out all my beloved beatle albums because they did drugs.
elton john was bad because he was gay.

Ok I don't mean to copycat the other thread on movies, but it got me thinking. I remember throwing out all my beloved Beatle albums because they did drugs. Elton John was bad because he was gay. The singer from Fleetwood Mac was a witch. Any others you can think of?

Ever know of a great family movie, the Witnesses found demons or evil in?
by free2beme ini remember growing up, the witness children were often ones that were left to see all those g rated movies from disney.
yet even those at time, while accepted by just about every religion out there, were considered demonic.
for example, the following movies were said to show witchcraft and in or congregation we were encouraged to discard them and not own copies of them; sleeping beauty, snow white, the little mermaid, bed knobs and broomsticks, and fantasia.

Bammer--I think Friends was considered too immoral. I loved that show, but my JW sister is very offended by it.

Devilsnok--I too used to secretly laugh at that stupid article in the Awake about ET. I could have sworn they also mentioned something about ET's finger being a phallic symbol--maybe it was another Question from Readers or something? Anyway, I really crack up now when I think about their absolute stupidity.
My best friend spent the night at my house so we could sneak out to the show and see Rocky, her elder dad said it was too violent. We were 16 years old for goodness sakes!
Oh and I remember my friend's mom was offended at Snow White cartoon or one of those cartoons because they said the word "Hell", not because of the magic.

My 5th anniversary today... No More Meetings
by xjwms inthis is my official day... five years ago ... when i decided to no longer attend regular meetings.. so, .. my wife comes home from the meeting yesterday and says..."elder.______ says to say hi to you" ... as we were talking after the meeting.. How do you feel about the name Jehovah?
by JWdaughter indo you use it anymore?
do you care?
do you cringe when you hear it?
-
love2Bworldly
I don't use the name Jehovah for God anymore for the simple reason that I do not want to be associated in any way, shape or form with the JDumb religion.
I just call Him God or Lord.
