Hello. I haven't posted in a long time, over a year. Just wantedto say hi & sorry for your cruel parents. I am married to an awesome man whose parents abused him. Have you ever read a series of books, the first one called "The Child Called It"? Its a very inspiring story though hard to read at times. The man who wrote the series now travels the world doing public speaking against child abuse.
I used to get very upset at the meetings when people would beat toddlers babies & young children for not sitting still or being quiet during long, boring, meetings. I was disfellowshipped and went back for a short time when I had my kids. The attendants at the meetings were so rude to me because I didnt have a jw husband to strong arm my kids at the meetings. If my babies started cooing instead of scolding them, I would go to the back of the meeting and rock them. People were always trying to 'help' me by telling me to spank the kids & I just ignored them.
Anyway hope you find comfort & friends here

I brought cookies to a book study and the elder said we should not do that every week because it was a distraction for everyone! Sheesh, I could never have any fun doing the most innocent things.
Then we started having talks that basically told us it was not good to have large gatherings because then there was no control. Then we were told in a talk that we shouldn't go do fun outings on Sundays EVEN ONCE IN A WHILE if it meant missing a meeting. Then we were told it was not good to visit other Kingdumb Hells all the time because we should be at our own to support the local congregation.
Talk about a High Control Cult!!! I felt so guilty all the time and so depressed. I am so glad that life is far behind me.

Are you interested in me as a 13 year old baptised into the JW religion with my 17 year old sister and my parents were not JWs nor was anyone else in the family? Let me know. I don't post on here every day, only about once a week.
When I was disfellowshipped at 21 years old, my non JW family members were extremely upset that my sister stopped speaking to me, as we had been very close and pretty much inseparable even sharing an apartment together for 2 years. My parents, especially my mom, had been devastated emotionally when we stopped celebrating Christmas & birthdays etc when I was 12 years old. And my aunt was very upset-- after I was disfellowshipped she used to chase the JWs down the street telling them they broke up families.
Then recently, my 93 year old non JW father was dying and wanted the whole family together. Whenever my sister showed up he would start yelling at her about making up with me. It was very sad, as he just wanted his kids to get along and to know that as he was passing away. She wouldn't even speak to me at my dad's funeral last month, and when my fiance very nicely approached her and introduced himself-- She jerked her arm from him and said "So I gathered" and walked away. Very very sad, and my other siblings are sad about it too.

What was Demonized?
by love2Bworldly inwhat did people used to tell you that they thought was demonic?.
some examples i went through: mickey mouse and other cartoon characters are demonic because animals can't talk.
be careful of items that you buy at a yard sale-- might be demonized.

Fairies. ET-- because his finger was a phallic symbol and only Jesus could heal. Most musicians because they took drugs.
That's all I can think of right now.

Things that made you cringe at "the meetings"
by i_drank_the_wine ini always cringed so hard when a "brother" or "sister" would make some overly heartfelt comment about jehovah-something, usually related to a personal experience of theirs, and get all teared up and/or start crying.. once this fringe dude that's been df'd twice now was giving a talk and kept having these long awkward pauses where he looked like he was real stressed out, then he would start up again, stutter, slip up, and repeat the process until he looked down and went "i, i just can't do this" and walked off the stage and left the hall.. it also made my spchincter pucker when a young person would give some super devotional comment on how much they love big j and whatnot, which would make the congregation all smile in their hearts and wag their heads in approval..

WOW I could go on and on with this thread LOL Those stupid songs. Or how about when the 85 year old annointed guy and his wife were telling me that Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters were DEMONIZED because animals can't talk and Satan used the serpent.
