There was a time when the Society taught that the perfect man Adam and the perfect man Jesus were beardless. A perfect man had no facial hair. WT art work at the time reflected that teaching. Adam and Jesus where shown beardless. By 1968 that had changed and so had the artwork. New light, don't ya know. However the informal ban was never lifted. Funny that it is still in effect today.

If God doesn't want brothers to have beards, why does it grow?
by JH in.
men have facial hair and women don't, and that's god who decided that.. so why can't brothers have beards or goatees.

1975 - Lest We Forget
by GetBusyLiving ini find the topic of the 1975 end of the world scenario facinating, especially since i never lived through it.
do you old schoolers ever feel concerned that people will one day forget about what really went down?
with whitewashed tripe like the 'proclaimers' book informing dubs that it was just the false expectations of over enthusiastic apostates, are you at all concerned that the legacy of bullshit that is 1975 will be a forgotten moment in history blamed on you instead where the blame really belongs?

The book was "All Scripture is Inspired of God and Beneficial" published in 1963. There was a1990 edition, would be interesting to compare the two. Bet there were some changes.

My reading habits are about the same as well. Back in the day I was a "BIG" SF reader. My dad would gripe about it, but never forbade me to read them.

There was a book released about the same time as the "From Paridise Lost, To Paridise Regained". Same size, believe it was blue in color. It was called "Jehovah's Witnesses in The Divine Pupose", if memory serves me right. Anyway, it was early 60's perhapes late 50's. It had a chapter devoted to chornolgy, with tables and all. That is the first instance I remember about 6000 years of human history ending somtime in the 1970's. Anyway, I may have the title wrong, just remember the chapter on chornology and that it was the same size as the Paridise book. Wish I still had all those old books.
Seems the WT was laying the ground work early on. They don't think in terms of weeks and months. They look ahead years in advance.

"There was a time (in the far distant past) where it was acceptable to ask questions during the bookstudy."
True. Most book studies were some what informal. Didn't stray to far, but questions were not discouraged.

Would you have quit the JW's for a Worldly Person you loved?
by JH inwhen you were a devout jw, and if you would have met a man/women that really pleased you, would you have quit the jw organization for that person, if he/she asked you to?

"When you were a devout JW, and if you would have met a man/women that really pleased you, would you have quit the JW Organization for that person, if he/she asked you to?" I did with no regrets. In fact it was what woke me up. In fact we are still going strong after 30+yrs. BTW, she didn't ask,it was my choice.

I regret the education I missed more than anything. What I don't regregt is seeing my daughter get hers, or seeing my grandchildren growing up with the ability to think for themselves.

*Tears*
by Krystal ini am 20 years old and i left the organization when i was 17. there are of course many gorey details which i will not get into right now... but i just wanted to say how happy i am to have found this fourm.
as many of you remember, we were always instructed not to read anything about jehovah's witnesses that wasn't written by the organization.
well, that instruction stuck, and this is the first time i three years that i have dared to even look.. needless to say, i found some very disturbing information.

I've been out for 30yrs., took over 10yrs to "get over it". Froums like this are a good place to start. Whish there had been somthing of this nature back then. Come often, you will not regret it.
Quotes, book marked your site. It's good.

Wow! So much I had forgotten. We read candy bar lables to make sure the candy contained no lethicin(sp?). Supposedly it was a byproduct of blood. I didn't eat Mars bars for a longtime.
