Has any elder ever been caught for loitering on one of their "stakeouts" on the house of a suspected wrondoer? I would LOVE to hear what kind of explanation they would give....

I don't know who Ed Dunlap or his brother is, but RIP to your friends, j_w. :))
I had to chuckle a little bit at this. A new generation is coming up who doesn't know the notorious "apostates" of the early days of yore....

Do You Like or Dislike Algebra? Why and Why not?
by Scott77 injuly 28, 2012is algebra necessary?by andrew hacker .
a typical american school day finds some six million high school students and two million college freshmen struggling with algebra.
in both high school and college, all too many students are expected to fail.

The articles lists Oklahoma with a 33% fail rate. But I say that's just poor teaching. Here are the stats for an OKC charter school that I am very involved with. The student population runs the gamut from "well to do" to poverty line. The population leans to a majority of Black and Hispanic, with about a third being Caucasian. You have to apply to get into this school, but while slots exist, no one is turned down or required to take an entrance exam. Many of the classes are taught at College level, and high expectations are set for the students.
And here are the results for Spring, 2012. These are the pass rates for the End of Instruction (EOI) tests. These are the State of Oklahoma required standardized tests to determine if the student graduates:
Algebra I = 100% Pass Rate English III = 100% Pass Rate
Algebra II = 96% Pass Rate
Geometry = 94% Pass Rate
English II = 93% Pass Rate
Biology = 86% Pass Rate
US History = 83% Pass Rate
100% Pass rate on Algegra I ! 96 % Pass rate on Algebra II! Don't tell me that this is too difficult for all students to take. Suck it up, Junior, and learn your schoolwork! And, you, schoolteacher, get off your butt, and use any method at your disposal to engage those students to grasp these concepts!

Jonathan Edwards loses his faith
by slimboyfat inhttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-435374/olympic-champ-jonathan-edwards-insists-marriage-intact-despite-christianity-crisis.html.
the author of the article makes the comment:.
"he has a deep, theological comprehension of the bible, making his spiritual meltdown even more unlikely.".

Glad you cleared that up. I thought we were talking about the old fire and brimstone preacher of early America, or the bad guy in "Lost in Space".

FOURTEEN DEAD IN DENVER SHOOTING !
by Phizzy inmore than one gunman seems to be involved in this terrible act.
families were attending mid-night showings of the dark knight movie.. the media should not give publicity tothe names of the perpetrators, they often crave the fame.
give them that fame and others will crave it too.. my thoughts are with the families of all that are affected, a horrific and pointless act that will bring so much pain and sorrow.. edited to say, seems as though it was a lone gunman..

The connection between the Aurora shooting and the single page vignette from "The Dark Knight Returns" graphic novel is tenuous, at best.
In that scene, a pathetic, mentally impaired individual, hearing messages in music played backwards, walks into a porno theater, and prepares to open fire. The next panel is an immediate cut to a television reporter, announcing that a "Batman inspired shooting" has taken place in a porno theater.
The obvious point here being, that even though this person was not motivated by anything other than the voices in his head (and a TV preacher who claimed that rock music contained backmasking), the Media immediately makes the connection to his violence and Batman (who, in this story, has returned after an absence of 10 years.)
The irony of this one page of a comic book being linked to the events at Aurora may be lost on the "reporters" of HLN, but not on me.

The Story of a Modern Famine - 1984 Ethiopia
by jgnat inan athiest argument for an uncaring or non-existent god is suffering, say, as in starving children.
i consider this a strawman argument but there you go.. the apologists defence is that humankind has been given all the tools for health and prosperity, and has failed in their duty.
the resultant victims will receive their reward in the afterlife.

Yeah, but what really was done by all the celebrity involvement? The food got sent to Ethiopia, but didn't go to ones who needed it.
Oh, and Thanks! jgnat!
