  Who Was Shocked By the Watchtower UN NGO Scandal?

  i'd like to get comments from people about whether and how much they were shocked, surprised, or otherwise bothered by the watchtower society's becoming an associated non-governmental organization (ngo).. note that i'd like to see these comments because they might lead to some interesting publicity, so please comment accordingly.. alanf

  I really don't expect the org to be perfect.

  However, I can only imagine how things would turn out if the shoe was on the other foot.

  If I as an elder, a bethel elder no less, 'accidentally' joined a recognized enemy of the 'truth', the JC would:

  1. Check out how long I had been involved in this 'sin'.
  2. Find out when I first learned of the error and what steps I took to resolve the issue.
  3. Look for my repentant attitude, by ready admission of guilt or lack of repentance by my trying to justify or hide my 'sin'.
  4. Consider how well know the issue is in the community. How much reproach does it bring on god's organization?

  Also, considering the lives that have been lost (Malawi, etc.) by jws trying to faithfully live up to what they thought was Jehovah's standard in similar circumstances, it's difficult to understand how they can so easily work around these kinda things.

  i have been listing some old "infromants" (old kingdom ministry) on ebay tonight.

  i was typing the topics in the decription and realized that it truely is just a publishing company.

  i didn't have to stretch the truth (lol) at all.

  Funny how it's been there all along. We just refused to 'see' it.

  I think that's why things are now so frustrating. I am asking myself, 'How could I not have seen this?'

  Why 5 meetings a week?

  i was recently being ragged on my a jw friend and he was raggin on me for not goin to the meetings.

  he said i am foresaking the gathering of ourselves.

  i then said where in the bible does it say i must attend 5 meetings a week spread over 3 days?

  There are more changes on the horizon! New light is a comin'!

  Just as the wts has simplified, by a monthly Awake! magazine, fewer convention releases, new corporation arrangements, etc.

  Believe me, new meeting arrangements are on the way! Then, the same faithful jw apologists will talk about how wise the fds is in providing such adjustments.

  Euphemism : The reason we reached the point of decision is because, even if we were 'theocratically' successful, we were not happy as JWs. We reached the point in our emotional or intellectual lives where we had to face the truth to continue growing.

  That is such a good point, Euphemism!

  Personally, I was on that 'upwardly mobile' theocratic track. However, I reached the point where I just wanted to be a 'regular' publisher. By then, I was already infected with too much 'inside info'.

  I remember a relative bragging about the 'great privilges' that I had experienced. To their surprise, I said: "it's better that most jws never get to go to bethel."

  How do the current gb do it? I mean, mistakes are one thing, but current evidence is now pointing to only one possible explanation: outright deception.

  My head hurts and I can't sleep!

  An ex-missionary gave the public talk today about Loyalty to Jehovah. Closely related, the WT study focused on Slavery to J & JC (J Jr.).
  

  A strange chill went through my entire body as everyone so easily interchanged the requirements of loyalty to god and allegiance to the organization. It's not so much that it is said, but the fact that everyone just sits there and refuses to entertain any disquieting thoughts.

  It's not that I thought the org was perfect, but ... ???

  I honestly wonder how many jws would die if they passed out cups of poison kool-aid.

  But then I read where the Watchtower condemned other churches for being "members of the UN", citing a quote. They failed to include the portion of the quote that shows those churches were associated NGO's. That condemnatory comment was only shortly before the Watchtower itself became an NGO.

  Where did they condemn other churches for the same sin?

  jws go through such efforts to make sure that the wts image is upheld in their convention cities:dress nicetip wellkeep the kids inlineclean up the stadium/colisseum/site (before & after)etc.. jws are super hugging and loving at the convention sites, but can't stand each other in the local kh.. my questions are: do any other groups (religious or otherwise), get these kind of pep talks?does anyone even notice (wt assemblies don't get the press that they used to)

  Blessings and Curses? Do they exist?

  jw experiences abound with testamonial proof that god's blessing& favor is on them and the org, as well as, opposing curses that afflict their enemies.

  all sorts of positive things are attributed to god, while anything negative is god's allowance of satan's influence.

  (i was just as good as anybody at telling these kinda stories!).

  tetrapod: no. nature is neither kind or evil. just indifferent.

  Thanks for the comments. It makes me think of a local tragedy not too long ago.

  Several people in our town lost their lives during very terrible weather. An entire JW family was also killed. At the time, I was completely surprised by the comments of our bookstudy conductor (an otherwise, rational, very intelligent, educated fellow):

  "It is obvious that jehovah has blessed us because only ONE jw family was lost out of the hundreds who died." Just imagine trying to explain that bible based logic to the bereaved family!

  It helped me appreciate the mental tricks that we play on ourselves to somehow justify our position. Thanks for the socalled religious freedom.
