I do, and in my own family. The abuser was not a baptized Witness, but he was "on the fringes". I don't blame the elders though because they don't know. In fact, I didn't even know until fairly recently. The whole situation has been kept hush hush to "keep the peace", but I don't know how the people he abused are holding up. The one that is close to me, just suppresses it. The other person has had a lot of trauma in their life. I feel so sad.

Methods of "reproving"??
by wordlywife inwell all, my dear step-daughter is going to be or has been reproved.
apparently she was at a party with unsavory things going on, and she confessed all to an elder.
sounds as though she won't be allowed to pioneer or get to go to pioneer school.

Your poor stepdaughter. She is fortunate to have you in her life as support. I agree with everything Blondie says. I would like to add this. It sounds like, by what you're saying, that your daughter is already a regular pioneer. If that is the case, even is she is privately reproved(meaning that it isn't announced before the congregation), the elders still will have to announce that she is no longer a regular pioneer, and it'll be obvious that she isn't commenting. And if it's a party that a lot of "young ones" know about, then a lot of people will know why. It's such an unfair system. She did the "right thing" by coming forward, and yet she gets penalized still. I feel so sad for her.

Circuit Overseer visit ---- Why do we have to change the meeting schedule??
by catchthis inthis has always been a personal thorn in my side for years upon years.
let's say that your meetings took place on monday-wednesday and that other congregations had the tuesday-thursday slot.
let's also assume that you just happened to go to the mon-wed meetings due to personal circumstances and that tue-thur meetings were not possible.. now here comes da man on his bi-yearly visit.

Yes, my meetings were always on Tuesday and Thursday, so when he visited us it didn't affect me. But if he was visiting the other congregation, we'd have to have our School and Service Meeting on Wednesday instead. I never thought much about it because the CO we had up until fairly recently was pretty old and I wasn't about to question his schedule. He and his wife looked like they were on the verge of falling apart.

Your Parents
by Quentin inwere your parents critical of your jw friends and non-critical of your worldly friends?.
we attended a kingdom hall with less than 100 publishers.
my dad never had a good word to say about any of my jw friends, they were all un-theocratic.
-
Chia
My mom was critical of ALL my friends. I couldn't have any worldly friends because they were bad association, and my Witness friends were not spiritual enough. So I ended up just being close to my family, which made me very unhappy.

I've been wondering too what the deal is. I'm quite sure the elders know where I am, and they definitely know my phone number, but I haven't received a call or a visit. Not that I am complaining.

DO YOU BLOG?
by Terry ini just started doing this (blogging) and it is not unlike writing a diary put into public view.. there a zillions of these things floating around out there.
many are extremely inventive, artistic, interesting and startling.. however, most are utterly inane!.
sturgeon's law at work.

I have a blog on Myspace. You would probably think mine is inane too. But I don't write it for other people, I write it just to get thoughts off my chest. I kept a journal for about 5 years, from the time I was 14 until I was 19 or 20. It amazed me to see how much I had changed, but certain areas and issues stayed the same.

American Idol
by Mulan inanyone watch it last night?.
i am really starting to love constantine.
he just gets better and better.. carrie is so consistent, and so good, that i think she is going to win this, but constantine is right up there too.. i also really like anthony fedorov.. i like bo, but think the judges are a little "over the top" about him.

Bo is my favorite and I hope he wins. I'm sorry but I don't see what the big deal is about Carrie. She's pleasant to listen to, but lacks charisma.
I felt bad for Anthony. He had a nice voice, but he didn't measure up to the others in the end. Poor kid. He was cute.

Were you caught, did you confess, or did you run?
by sass_my_frass inhi, fyi: d'f'd a month ago, and glad you're all here.
i'm just assessing the sum of the madness that happened since my parents guilt-tripped me into confessing what got me disfellowshipped.
i do very sharply recall that at the moment i decided to do so i had an overwhelming feeling of relief which at the time i thought was me hating the lying about what i'd done and wanting to come clean about that and clear my conscience as a witness, but have since thought might have been me hating the lying about how i feel about the organisation and wanting to come clean about that as a human, ie, whether i'd turned the corner as a witness or i was glad to be getting away from it.

Love11, thank you for sharing that story. Stories like yours and my own personal experience are the very reason I will NEVER meet with the elders again. I think that generally their minds are probably made up anyway, they just want to see if they can get some juicy details. In your case, there was nothing to report, and telling the truth worked against you. You were probably screwed from the start. If you had said you did something, they probably would've disfellowshipped you anyway. They told the truth, believed you lied, even if you did lie you were wrong by spending the night there, and you're disfellowshipped. It's such a loving system that it makes me sick.
I will NEVER let them have that much control over me again.
