Yeah, I still kinda feel like the Dubs aren't necessarily a cult, they're cult-like in a lot of aspects. But I just stopped going to meetings maybe a month ago, so maybe after a few more months or even years have passed, I'll view it differently. I also have nagging feelings that maybe sometimes they are right and I"m wrong. But it doesn't make me feel bad enough to go back there. I can't live that lie anymore.

What JW Things Did You Have A Hard Time To Let Go?
by minimus ini had a hard time accepting that jehovah's witnesses are a cult.
i would even agree that they might be "cult like" but i didn't want to accept that i indeed was part of a cult.....what about you?

Saddest cartoon episode?
by Simon inour kids love the simpsons and futurama but one episode of futurama is just soooo sad, i can barely watch it - it brings a lump to my throat every time!.
the one with seymour, fry's fossilised dog that the professor is going to bring back to life.
he decides not to do it because he thinks seymour lived a full life after he got frozen and will have forgotten him.. instead, the dog sat waiting for him all those years ... .

I remember when Stimpy lost his fart. I actually watched that episode with my father. He was laughing hysterically, and he said, "So this is the stuff you watch?" He remembers it to this day. He reminded me about it not long ago.

Leviathan
by myelaine inand in the morning the word of the lord came to me, saying, son of man, has not the house of israel, the rebellious house, said to you, what are you doing?
say to them, thus says the lord god: this burden concerns the prince in jerusalem and all the house of israel who are among them.
i will not conceal his limbs, his mighty power, or his graceful proportions.

JWs required to report medical information to elders
by Elsewhere inthere was an article, i believe in the awake!, that talks about a hypothetical medical worker who in a hypothetical situation comes to find out that a jw has accepted a medical procedure that is not accepted by the wts.
this hypothetical worker must decide where or not she will report the hypothetical violation to the elders.
does anyone recall where i can find this article?

Reading things like that makes me want to vomit. Even when I was a Dub I never stuck my nose in other people's business or informed on people.

What would you do?
by pratt1 inlet's say that a young relative of yours is a dub, 16 years old, and live with her dub parents.. she has come to you because she is pregant and needs you moral and financial support in this matter.. because she was in denial about her condition, if she has an abortion (which is what she wants) it would require a short hopital stay.
she is 11 weeks i think.. what do you do?.
1. tell her parents?.

I hope for the best for your young relative. What a terrible situation. I once thought I was pregnant. It turned out not to be so, but I was also a little older than her, and I was certain my mom would throw me out of the house and disown me and everything. She still did throw me out of the house, for a minor thing, so I know she would've had I been pregnant. I had made up in my mind if I was pregnant I was definitely going to get an abortion. No matter what decision is made, it's a difficult one, and it should be respected. But there's nothing wrong with you being there for her, to listen to her and comfort her.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses Truly Honest?
by minimus injws pride themselves in being the "most honest people on earth".
could you refute that claim??

Yeah right. They say that but on the same token they do "theocratic warfare" which is basically lying. But they call it "not divulging the truth to those not entitled to it." This happened to both me and a friend. The elders told us they wanted to talk to us to encourage us, and then when they got the chance they pounced on us. In my case it was "faithful and discreet slave", in her case it was "morality", but either way, dishonesty. They couldn't have just said, "We heard some stuff, we want to talk to you"? But no!
So of course, not all Dubs are dishonest, but I definitely can't say the group as a whole is known for their honesty.

Without passing moral judgment(ahem, AFIN), I would not get too involved. I know it sounds cruel, but that's a tough call. Since she's underage, it depends on the laws and all...I just think it's sticky. What if she decides to come out and tell her parents later, and then it all falls back on you? I wouldn't want you to be caught in that situation. That's just my humble opinion.

It is finished, or is it just beginning?
by IP_SEC inwell i am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.
i had fully intentioned to disassociate myself from the platform today, but i decided that if i wanted a chance to save my marriage that i'd better tell my wife.
she immediately went to to one of the elders.

Wow, Matt, you're really brave. I know this must be such a difficult time for you, but kudos for your bravery. I don't go to meetings anymore but I can't bring myself to that final step of disassociation. There's still some lurking doubts I've got to take care of.
You're a brave man, I can't say it enough, and I hope things work out for the best with you and your family. You deserve people in your life who care about you for who you are and not how "strong" you are spiritually or how many hours you spend in field service or how many magazines you sell or how good you are at public speaking!

Ooh yeah, that's bad. I know someone that happened to once (AHEM) but it wasn't quite so bad that she had to go to the doctor, it was just red and uncomfortable and I--I mean she---couldn't wear her contacts for a while.

Yeah it does sound like a Witness, complete with "I don't listen to what anyone else says because I know I have the truth and God is on my side." Except that you believe in the Trinity. But you sound almost exactly like a Dub. It's frightening.
