But seriously, I think I'm OK. I generally like the look of my face, but I absolutely hate my hair, and I definitely wish I was taller (I'm only 4'11"). Oh, and that I had bigger breasts. So, there are good things and bad things. There you have it.

I don't know your wife. And you are in a different region than I am. But I know that if it was here...let's say I was a faithful Dub(back when I was). If you were my husband, and you were open to studying the Bible, but then you said, "I don't want you taking the kids to the meetings." I'd be like, "Why? You're having a study, you're open to listening, the children can't make that choice?" That's what I would say, had I been a faithful Dub. More likely than not, she will view that as a form of opposition, even if you yourself are open to a study. The Bible says, "Train up a boy according to the way of wisdom..." or something like that. It says "Inculcate your children...." or something like that. If she does not try her hardest to do this, she will feel like she is failing. Eventually, you'll be made to look like an opposer. Even if she doesn't feel that way at first, she'll let slip to her friends at the Hall or one of the elders, and they will say, "Oh, he is opposing you." Before you even know it, you'll be the bad guy. They'll probably start inviting you to stuff, congregation functions, or they'll start talking to you about it on your study, but that is the likely scenario, I am sorry to say.
Again, this is all my humble opinion. I'm not trying to forecast doom and gloom, but it sounds ugly to me.

But seriously, Premises, he's right. I didn't even think that the elders would be like, "It's so excellent, Sister Struggling, that you're trying to make sure these children have the truth despite your husband's opposition." Not only that, but even though you are the head in the family, a lot of that goes out the window because you aren't a Dub. We were constantly referred to as "fatherless children" because my dad wasn't a Witness. But he certainly was very alive, and in fact, he wasn't even an opposer. But they still disrespected him.
They firmly believe that if a husband asks a wife to do something that would compromise her dedication to Jehovah, that she must be loyal to Jehovah and disobey her husband. That means that not instilling "the truth" in your children would be disobedient to Jehovah. She has to do her best. I would make sure your kids see that you aren't the bad guy here, that you're being completely rational. When they get a little older, and their mom doesn't want them to go to the prom, to be in school sports or go to dances, then they'll know what's up. I've been there...but there was no one to stand up for me. Please, be a listening ear for your kids.

Tough call Check Your Premises. This is my advice, and I am by no means an expert. My father is UBM and my mom is a faithful hardcore Dub. My mom wore the pants in the family, so she made us. I think if my dad had been quite as forceful as my mom was, I would think, "Well, maybe there is some truth to this stuff, because I don't see what he's so afraid of. Maybe Mom is being persecuted." I would be open with your kids, and let them know that they don't have to do anything they don't want to. If at anytime they are feeling forced to do something, they can always come to you for help. Let your wife know that you won't accept it if she forces the children to go out in service. That way, it's your children's choice. I think the biggest fear is your wife forcing her newfound zeal on her children. Please avoid that at all costs. Just be a listening ear for them, watch for the signs, if it looks like they're being coerced, put your foot down.

I never liked it. It was kinda sad. I remember my first year I auxiliary pioneered( I was 13) I liked it then because we really weren't serious. No one was ever home because it was summer, and often we'd just go get ice cream and pretend we'd been out in service. One time we even went shopping. These were pioneers who taught me tricks of the trade by the way. But it quickly became drudgery. I don't miss field service one little bit.

my parents and siblings are not witnesses, so when i told them about the jc letter arriving, they just shrug their shoulders and say "so what?

Well, my committee meeting was really perverted. (See my very first post if you want to.) So when I explain to friends in detail about the questions I was asked, and the humiliation I had to endure, they see how horrible it is. But they can't understand why I felt obligated to tell them my business. Also, my mom is a Dub, and she has already made clear that if I am disfellowshipped, or even if I am not quite disfellowshipped but lead a lifestyle not approved by the Dubs, that she will shun me and stick to Jehovah her God. When I explain that to them, they don't understand that. They say, "Well, I do things all the time my parents don't like, but they wouldn't stop speaking to me forever!" So, yeah, it can be hard to explain.
my mom isnt a big fan of guns, but after being mugged once, she appreciates the value of a well placed firearm.

Sounds good. I've never even touched a gun...actually I've never even seen one up close at all. Only on TV. Boy, I'm sheltered,huh?
I used to work the evening shift a few years ago(3-midnight--it was supposed to be good for pioneering ). I was still in my teens. The company I worked for was in a bad spot in my hometown, and I was the only one who left at midnight. Often I would be in the parking lot by myself. It was fairly dark. I thought nothing of this until one night I decided to go to "dinner." I came back, around 8:30, and went inside to work. A few minutes later, someone came in and told me that my car had been broken into. I rushed outside, and sure enough, yup. It scared all of us because someone was obviously watching me and knew that I had just gone inside and I wouldn't be any trouble. What if they had worse intentions? I shudder to think. There was supposed to be a security guard there, but he was nowhere to be found. From then on we left work in groups.
