Love the pics and I hope to see more. I did take my camera and so did Chris and neither one of us used them; I was so caught up in the moment meeting and talking to everybody that I didn't think to take pics. I was almost too busy drinking and talking to even eat, lol.

I'm at work right now so I dont have time to post all my thoughts about the fest but wanted to say how much it means to me to be able to meet so many people I have been wanting to meet for so long and see ones I haven't seen in a while since the last fest last year. It was a special moment in my life because so many people here mean so much to me. I love you all!

"Follow the Christ " conventions...is it me?

looking at the convention invitation,.

does anyone get the feeling this is a ploy by the wt to project themselves as "christian".

the way it is worded gives the image that they are "christ centred".

Leolaia hit the nail on the head; to outsiders (nonJWs) they would think it is meaning Jesus Christ but actually in Watchtower speak they are actually saying to follow THE CHRIST meaning follow THE ANOINTED, in essence their idea of the FDS.

it's really great to be back on here, i've missed you all so much.

i'm home for the weekend, and feeling a lot better than i was earlier in the week.

i picked up an infection and felt really awful for a day or two, but it's ok now.

Need Help With A WT Excerpt

i have tried google and my own personal files...and i just can't find the printed thought that said "a jw must agree with all the teachings of the wts"....or words to that effect..... i am developing some thoughts to "share" over on the "knocking" forum.

(i asked in one post---if "knocking" referred to jws at the doors, or what they do to all other religions...... i'd appreciate any help with this....even with other excerpts that relate to this thought---would be great!.

hello dear friends...

i have a chance to get to dallas for the crawfish party on may 6th..i live in austin, tx and was planning on taking a bus to dallas on sunday....( i really dont like to drive in dallas)

the problem is i need someone to help me to get from point a to point b//namely from the bus station to the party and from there i would need a place to stay for sunday night...my funds are limited so was hoping to room with someone at the nearby hotel..or someones home if thats possible..

i'm looking for recent information about the wt society discouraging jws from going to college.

i already have the 2005 wt article which went back to the old line discourging post-secondary education.

are there other statements from our kingdom ministry or more recent watchtowers since then?.

Got new glasses progressive lenses any Ideas?

i got new glasses today with progressive lenses and transitional lenses get darker outside.

trying to get used to them.. anyone out there that has these and will it work i have a 30 day guarantee and return policy from lens crafters to go back to the old bifocal.. go back to the eye doc wed. to recheck for glaucoma.

at least it is not a blur anymore for the 12" from my face forward.

let me know how they turn out; Im suppose to be wearing them, however instead I wear regular glasses and to read Im suppose to wear contact lenses and reading glasses!! *ugh* Just when I thought my vision couldnt get worse, I have to wear different glasses for different things.

WTS, religion, all or nothing-Sunday KH-goers

when i was a jw, i thought (because that is what i had been taught) that there is only one true religion, that it was all or nothing.

i read here so often (most recently sweetpea) of experiences and discussions with jws who know it isn't all right, but they are in it for various reasons-basically a lot of 'its better than what i knew before' and 'what will happen if i leave???'.

i wonder now how many jws did not have the idea that it is the truth, but didn't really care?

We heard constant exhortations againt "lukewarmness" at the Kingdom Hall, and at the book study whenever we studied that part of the Revelation Climax near at hand book. Meeting attenders who rarely went out in service were painted as 'lukewarm', which is a putdown if you look at what Jesus wants to do with his lukewarm disciples in the book of Revelation (vomit them out).
When you go door to door preaching this stuff, if you took it even somewhat seriously you had to come up with reasons this stuff was true. You had to repeat it to a lot of householders. As has been pointed out by others on this forum, this is a really effective way for the Watchtower to keep its people loyal, by having them repeat the teachings over and over to non-believers. It wasn't a really effective way of making converts, but it did re-enforce those Watchtowerisms in our minds.

Going out in service was not primarily to win converts but basically to reinforce the indoctrination when you were not attending meetings. During the time I was in I totally believed it was the truth, 100%; I just thought what I didn't understand would eventually be revealed to me and that I shouldn't expect to learn everything at once and that other people in the organization who had been in the organization for years were learning new things that they had wondered about and then later it would be my turn to have things fall into place that didn't already.
