What COULDN'T You Do Because You Were A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus ina witness cannot question anything from a critic's point of view.
wondering aloud why the watchtower says a certain thing can get you in trouble with the think police (the elders).
what things can you think of that are taboo for jws??

I didn't know it at the time, (because that is all I knew, being raised in) but there was hardly a decision I could make for myself. So much had to be dictated by the publications, the GB and the WBTS, that I had to learn, as an adult, how to make life decisions on my own merit rather than always running to some publication or some programming from the publications that had embedded itself in my character.
So, I guess I'd say I could not make my own, my very own, decisions in many cases because I was a Jehovah's Witness. But, again, were someone to have told me that when I was a Witness, I would have protested strongly. Hind-sight, huh?
This reminds me of what I was thinking not long ago. Notice how the WTS covers everything in the indoctrinating process. Very early on they forewarn that well meaning relatives will try to discourage you from "examining the scriptures" and then later on during the study they demonize the thought of "deciding for oneself" (something Eve had done remember?) which the the whole reason why God permits wickedness and suffering, etc. They make you think you can't make up your own mind on anything but have to be dependent on "God's word the bible or better yet "his channel"".

the people in the south are awesome, very hospitable.

I think the answer to that question would depend on the stage of my life. I would rather be living some place else rather than where I live, being in the lesser progressing area of the country. However later in life I might like it better. Right now, I hate it,.

You Need To Give Credit To The Society For Your Education
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: arial; font-size: 18px; color: #0000cc; } .style2 { font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; } .style3 {font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: italic; } --> you need to give credit to the society for your education.the watchtower and awake magazines have been helping individuals receive a g.e.d .
or high school diploma.
where did you learn the art of public speaking?

Oh believe me I certainly give credit to the WTS for educating me on how to be a master at manipulation and mind control, how to be devious, how to lie by omitting facts and putting a spin on facts to make them anything but what they really are. They taught me to be cynical and skeptic; very healthy traits that will help me know when somebody throws bullshit my way.

This is absolutely disgusting! Where is personal responsibility. I work my ass off as working office manager and put in about 50 hours a week and make less around 30K a year and pay more than 20% in taxes in addition to sales tax and cannot even afford to buy a new car to get back and forth from work since gas and auto insurance is so high and I have to pay for a place to live and food, etc. The sad part is that people like me cannot afford to own a home even half that value due to the taxes that would have to be paid and the utilities.
Greendawn if you think they are doing such a noble thing, why dont you volunteer to just pay your portion of taxes to them and make out a check to the order of that family and bypass the government. As far as their kids to, more than likely they will grow up thinking they are entitled to everything instead of having to earn what they have.

? for those still attending meetings
by littlerockguy inbefore i quit going to the meetings just before they announced that someone was to be reinstated they would ask that the congregation not clap due to the seriousness of the situation.
i thought it was so pathetic.
do they still announce that now when some one is reinstated?.

What is the Society's stand on illegal immigrants?
by cruzanheart ini've been away long enough (thank god) that i don't know what the party line is anymore about this.
when i was "in" i studied with a nice woman from venezuela and, when my mom found out she was in the country illegally, she stopped the study and told yomaira that we couldn't study with her until she got her immigration status cleared up.
this was back in the late 1970's.. however, i spoke with a jw friend this past weekend and it was taken for granted that a family member's caregivers -- who are witnesses in good standing going to the spanish congregation -- are not here legally.

I also think it is a double standard when they preach that we should be law abiding and pay our taxes yadda yadda yadda and every year at the meeting they would "remind" from the platform the young brothers to register for selective services since it was the law but knowingly harbour those who are not law abiding themselves.
