At what age would you dicuss homosexuality with your children?

on recent a thread a poster here discussed about having discovered his daughter was gay.

whilst reading this my 11 year old son was looking over my shoulder, and reading along with me, some of the discussion was quite adult but respectful .

so i began thinking what age would you discuss these things?

Most kids already hear gay and lesbian subject matter on the playground at around the ages of 9-11; at least I did 30 years ago back in the 70s and judging about how far the world and society in general has gotten especially with TV and pop culture I would start around the time they start asking questions. If you are not there to educate them on subjects like that, they are going to get information elsewhere.

JG, I can respect your view on opposing gay marriage; I dont want to marry another man, however I think civil unions are fair and the government should allow for domestic partners to enter into civil unions. That does not effect straight people in any way and gays should not be disenfrenchised in this matter since they they are citizens and support the government and pay taxes just like straight people do. They should be entitled to the same secular rights and benefits as straight married couples.

Arkansas governor wants to keep ban on gay foster parents

One day after the Arkansas supreme court struck down a state ban on gay and lesbian foster parents, Gov. Mike Huckabee on Friday urged the legislature to pass a law reinstating the ban. "I'm very disappointed that the court seems more interested in what's good for gay couples than what's good for children needing foster care," Huckabee told the Associated Press through his spokeswoman, Alice Stewart.

The state supreme court on Thursday upheld a lower court decision that threw out a ban on gays and lesbians serving as foster parents. Four people sued after the policy was put into effect in 1999. The state Child Welfare Board dropped the policy after losing a court fight in 2004.

Thursday's court ruling left open the possibility that legislators could enact a ban by law or possibly give a state board authority to do so. But Rita Sklar, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union in Arkansas, said the court ruling itself could make legislation difficult to pass. She cited language in the ruling that said there was no connection between homosexuality and a child's welfare. (The Advocate)

One thing that pissed me off about Mike Huckabee was his stand on Illegal Immigration. He never referred to them as illegal but "undocumented" and endorsed to providing scholarships to kids of illegal immigrants. I didn't get a free ride from the state to attend college and I don't think that people who are here as a result of illegal immigration should profit off it by my taxpaying dollars.

i got a notice in the mail today taht i am eligible to receive a court-approved refund of fees charged to my eligible credit/debit card.

the fees were based on foreign transactions, including both purchases and atm withdrawals from feb 1996 to november 2006. the only places i traveled out of the country during that time was in canada around 1999 and when i went to denmark, sweden and london last year.. did anybody else who has visa, mastercard and or diners club and travel much receive one of these notices in the mail?
