The United In Worship book actually covered quite a bit and I remember back then we actually went through that book at the book study at least twice when I was in the organization. You ideally were supposed to be baptized by the time you got into that book after the live forever book and the person you were studying with still could count that as time even after you were baptized but other people in the congregation could not count time "witnessing" to you.

Books you studied before becoming a JW
by littlerockguy inwhat book or books did you study to become a jw?
back in the mid 80s i studied 2 books, the live forever book and the united in worship of the only true god book, which took quite a bit of time to get through both of them.
now i guess they dont spend as much time with studies?

Who will survive Armageddon? What does the WT teach?
by GoingGoingGone ini made a comment to my 15 year old son last night about the arrogance of the jw teaching that all non-jws will be destroyed at armageddon.
he responded that i am mistaken, that the jws teach that jehovah reads hearts, even of those who are being preached to today.
in other words, no one is 'written off' like that, and btw he hates it when i take a teaching i don't like and exaggerate it like that..... .

*** Watchtower 1989 September 1 p. 19 Remaining Organized for Survival Into the Millennium ***
7 Only Jehovah's Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the "great crowd," as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil.

I do the ones who try to impose their views and way of life on me and ones who don't mind their own business and ones who get involved in politics and impose laws that prevent me from buying a glass of wine to go with my steak at restaurants or buying alcohol on Sunday and force their own form of public prayer in school, etc.

I was inactive for almost 7 years before I got the book and read it. I'm glad I did and like so many other people who have read it I can honestly say I don't see the organization as I once did after having read the book.
While I was active, attending meetings, going out in service and associating regularly with other JWs and family members who are JWs, etc. I wouldn't have touched the book with a 10 foot pole like Gary said nor would I ever consider going to a board like this.

I prefer KFC over McD's. The one item I miss that McD's use to serve was the McDLTs.
I usually don't go to KFC unless I have coupons. I rarely eat out anyway. I try to prepare my food at home where I have more of a choice and it's quicker, healthier and cheaper. Fast food isn't "fast" anymore. You have to wait in long lines or have to wait on the slow people behind the counter. The service in those places aren't anything like they use to be.

Whyamihere:
I agree. I had outpatient surgery last week and had a baseball size sebaceous cyst removed from my lower back and my incision is over 6 inches! The cyst was deep and all the way down to muscle but the incision doesnt hurt now but it has limited me somewhat until the incision heals.
Anyway, I hope you get to feeling better yourself!!

If I have an apostafest...will you come?
by kittyeatzjdubs inok. i feel like i'm the only one on this discussion board who hasn't met at least one member.
so i figured it was time to open my door and invite ya'll in for some southern hospitality.. i live in horn lake, ms which is about 35-40 minutes from memphis (depending on traffic).
so you can use that to gauge how far you are from me.

I may be able to attend if there is plenty of notice ahead of time. I would say I'm about two and a half hours away by way of I-40. I wasn't too far from you a couple of weeks ago when I went to Hollywood Casino in Tunica. Had great luck on the slot machines :-)

Usually on Saturday mornings around 11:00 a.m. at fast food places near the KH.
Hamsterbait, John Updike mentions JWs in some of his other short stories, like in his short story "Tomorrow and tomorrow and so forth". I wonder what experience he ever had with JWs to include them in his stories.

Elder not calling us "brother or sister" at the book study
by JH ina few months ago, i went to a couple of book studies, and i hadn't set foot there in years, but what stuck me was when the elder called people by their first names when he asked questions at the book study.. instead of saying brother rat, he just called me rat .
instead of saying brother smith, he just said gary, and so on..... .
either the elder was making it more friendly by using our first names in stead of saying brother or sister so and so, or it was a change in the way they operate.. .

When I went to the book study at one particular elder's house his wife insisted on being addressed as sister (her last name); not only there but even if approached in public.
