I'm not sure what exact age I was, definitely teens. Think it was a district assembly. What I do remember is that the baptism was at someones private resisdence. They had a pool and we all went there.

I knew a few people that did this, and as one person stated, "tacky". A cemetary on any day, but on memorial day... Though, of the few that did this, one brother was a WWII fighter pilot and had seen his share of action, so I think he deserved the right to be there, but still, there is a time and place and a cemetary isn't quite it...

Here's something about Sydlik. This is what I was told. Dan was a writer in the Writing Dept. when it was called Editorial Dept. He wrote an article about baseball that went into the Awake! Later it was found out that he plagiarized the article from Reader's Digest. He was transferred to the Factory, the Bindary maybe. I could be wrong about that.
As Metatron correctly pointed out, it was linotype/composing where Dan was placed in exile. (Depending when Metratron was there, we probably knew mutual people). Sydlik did like baseball though. During the summer the factory had a good number of teams and Sydlik was there playing with the guys. Another story about Sydlik, A coworker of mine was at his table and WWII was a discussion. He said he was very surprised when Dan rattled off fire power statistics of WWII tanks, the last thing he thought a GB member would ever know about.

No More Work on Saturdays at Bethels Worldwide
by Lost-In-Translation ina letter was read at tonight's meeting announcing that the governing body has decided to stop work on saturdays at all bethels worldwide.
bethel workers are encouraged to now spend saturdays with their local congregation in field service.
the new arrangement goes into effect june, 2009.. what do you think are the motives for such a change?.

Same here B. Bethelites bout to wild out up there. When I was there we got one saturday off a month and we used that to the fullest. We used to do kamaazi runs back home and to other locals, normally looking for sister's. We would get off work fri evening at 5 and hit the road out of town. One time we came back from detroit an waited till the last possible minute. I could make the trip from detroit to NY in 10hrs. We left at 11pm sunday night and pulled up in front of our bldg at 7:15 and head to work.
Same thing when I was there. We would get back to Bethel btn 5-7am, then off to work. I still have a picture of me sound asleep under a machine that one of my coworkers took. Mondays were rough after a full weekend traveling and partying....

Not sure if this is true or recalled correctly but apparently Bethel did not always work on Saturdays. Alledgedly in the 60's(?) a group of Bethelites were in a car accident causing serious injury/death, which prompted Saturday work. I do not really buy this, as when I was there we hit the road at quitting time and just drove faster to make up lost time... Another reason I heard that is more plausible was for tour groups. Towards the end of my time there they did allow you to have one Saturday a month off, which seemed that most took off the last Saturday every month, which made it pretty unproductive.

I had to cough up and additional $2500, as if they didn't take enough already out of my checks. Glad those college degrees and a better paying job is going towards those who are to _____ing challenged to improve themselves...
On the other hand, my girlfriend had to pay $20,000.00...and thats a quarterly payment, mind you.... Glad her degrees, hard work, and business sense is able to help even more of those I was just b___ing about....
sigh.....

Very first experience with remote login and computer useage was the early 70's. Used a teletype an electro-mechanical typewriter basically. That was pre-commercial Internet when select universities and the military (DARPA) had very simple links.

As a JW Were you Counseled on Grooming, your Dress or Hair Styles ?
by flipper injust another controlling feature of a mind controlled cult.
they always dictate that everyone should look like clones of one another - the same.
from early on i remember my elder dad in the late 1970's telling me as a teenager , " you are an elders son ; little brother jimmy over there looks up to you as an example.

Yeah...
Had a moustache. An elder pointed out in the then lastest magazine(70's) that there was a picture of a scientist at a chalkboard attempting to prove evolution. The scientist had a moustache.
Therefore, the obvious conclusion, in his alledged brain was that if you had a moustache you believed in evolution...
That was my first clue that some elders, and in this case, a Bethel elder had some serious thought process issues.
And of course the usual issues with hair length and dress.
