Visiting old churches
by moley inwhen i was a jw i did and still enjoy visiting old churches and cathedrals because of the history and amazing architecture of these wonderful old buildings.
a sister in my old congregation regaled us with a story of a visit to the tower of london and walking up this crowded narrow staircase only to discover it led to an old chapel.
the way she described her horror at almost entering you would have thought they were doing human sacrifices.

if my memory is correct, students that attended Gilead class to become missionary's toured St. Patrick's Cathedral and other NYC sites during the 70's. Pointing out he opulence of "Babylon the Great". -

BadAss Bethelites, did they really peak in the 1960's?
by was a new boy inin the 70's a bethel elder told me that every morning in the 60's the paint and scaffold crew, (which was located on the 5th floor of building 4) would go up to the roof and walk around the perimeter on top of the ledge, which i doubt was more than 12" wide.
then they'd go render sacred service to jehovah..

ex Bethelite pm'd me.
'Hey, just a heads up. You've labeled Building 2 as Building 3. I worked in 2.'
Which means Alzheimer's is creeping into one of our brains. I'm sticking to my numbers for now. My 1st job was in Bulk Wrapping, Bldg. 3, floor 10.
Correct. Building #2 in your picture is actually building #3. The larger windows were the press rooms on 3-6 and 3-7. Book binding was on 3-8 and 3-4.

Jws getting drunk
by Farmer Jim1 inhas anyone got any good 'jws and alcohol' stories?
i always found it amazing that so many jws got blind drunk at parties and got away with it!
i suppose alcohol was the only fun thing we were allowed to partake in....

Mid to late 70's I was walking through the Towers Bethel lobby and seen two NYPD cops dragging in a drunk passed-out Bethelite. He was gone the next day. Those untested new-boys....

When I was at Bethel in the 70’s a friend figured it be safe to see an “R” rated movie at the local Brooklyn Heights theatre on Monday due to Bethel Watchtower study. After he buys the ticket, using his Bethel ID to get the discount he is told, “there’s a lot of you guys here tonight.” He said he could barely find an empty seat.

Watchtower volunteer injuries
by neat blue dog ini was recently talking with a zealous 'sister' who for years was assigned to use a certain chemical while taking care of wt property, only to have it irreparably damage her immune system partly because she wasn't trained properly.
she said there was a potential lawsuit but she didn't want to bring reproach on jehovah's organization.
has anybody else heard of similar situations, of people being hurt or injured in service to the org, maybe even because of them, and taking the loss so the org wouldn't look bad?.

There was a young brother that fell down the elevator shaft at Squibb in '73.
I was working nights in the factory when that happened. He was to operate the elevator and take us up to the dining area. So by that time he had died. We did not realize he was only a few below us as we got someone else to operate the elevator.
If I recall correctly I think he had a brother that had drowned some time (years?) earlier.

Ex-jw Fifth interviews Bethelite from 1975. Well worth watching!
by Diogenesister inanother great interview by fifth here.
this lady was at bethel in 1975 and reminisces that many women at bethel expressed enormous regret at not having a family.
it seems that many witnesses back then were aware that watchtower really didn't know what they were talking about when it came to making predictions.. https://youtu.be/7dyooih3fji.

Interesting discussion. She came to Bethel about same time I did. We knew some of same people. And I think she may have worked with a friend of mine.

Chapter 31 New Boy 50 years a Watchtower slave
by new boy inchapter 31. murder suicide and death at the big house.
the people at bethel were killing us spiritually and sometimes they killed us physically too.. many of the old timers were in the infirmary laying there just waiting to die of natural causes.
some had served there for over fifty years.

When I was working night shift in the factory we had "lunch" at the Squibb. That night when the person fell to his death it was his duty to run the elevator to take us up to the dining room. We figured he fell asleep somewhere as we had to get someone else to do the task. Didn't realize till the next day, when his body was found in the pit, that he was under us. A few years earlier his brother, not at Beathel, also died. Drowning accident if I remember correctly. Very soon after that lighting was installed at all the elevator doors for better illumination.
As as for Richard Wheelock. A minor correction. He died in Brooklyn not the Farm.

I remember being in Towers lobby one night and watching two NYPD officers dragging in a Bethelite because he was to drunk to stand on his own. Pretty funny. As soon as he was sober he was gone.

I know 2 of the Elders on the Ray Franz JC
by James Jackson inwhen i read coc, i was stunned that the 2 elders (theotis french & rob dibble) were on ray franz judcial committee.
i have known these men for over 20 years having done rbc and convention work with them.
they are still elders today which means they were in their early 30's(which is unheard of for a case of this importance to have inexperienced elders to sit on) on this committee.. without revealing myself, i have never tried(but have wanted to), ask them about their on having to judge a former gb member.. then out of the blue, about a year ago, i was mentioning how hard it is trying to get younger ones to volunteer to one of these elders, and he says"this is nothing compared to to sitting on the committee that had to disfellowship ray franz".

From Sparky1:
Sorry James Jackson but there was an Elders Manual in hardcover book form back in the 70's. It was not as comprehensive as the current version but it was a full size hardcover publication. When I went throught Bethel Entrants School in 1974 it was part of our study curriculum.
Confirming Sparky1's comment. I also had the same book, same year actually, at Bethel.
