  A comment I heard tonight

  tonight i heard one of the most cruel and twisted comments i've ever heard at the platform.

  the topic was the apocalypse and whether or not children will be slaughtered.

  through one side of his mouth, the po stated that the bible is not clear on the matter, while out the other side he pointed to all those old testament accounts where children were killed.

  admittedly, i have only been using this site for five days, and there may be some more not too amiable people lurking within its forums that i have not yet come across, but may i say, from the several times that i have read your contributions to discussions, that you do seem to come across, rightly or wrongly, as a thoroughly unpleasant person.

  maybe you are not, but that is how you definitely come across on screen. i hope that you are a much nicer person than you seem

  since the jw religion is sooooo restrictive, it is good to think about just how wacky this cult is.....for example, you can get counseled for buying a 2 door car as opposed to a "pioneer" car (4 door).

  there were the obligatory couple of positive remarks, followed by the obligatory "BUT" then they would hit you with the real reason for the "shepherding call".

  Brits. Will you vote in next month's General Election?

  as everyone had guessed, the election has been set for may 5th.

  personally, this is my first opportunity 'post wt mind-control' to vote for our next government.

  i don't suppose that i will - 40 years of 'neutrality' and non-involvement have rather flattened my desire to take part in political change.. how about you?

  i voted for the first time in the last euro election, just to dip my toe in the water, so to speak. i was a bit scared, but it was a postal vote so i knew that none of my former acquaintances would catch me in the act.

  i voted green - and felt like i had, if not made a difference, at least contributed something to society. it felt good.

  i will be voting this time around, haven't decided who for, but i still feel good that i can and am making this contribution to the common good, i suppose. (although it will be a bit more scary turning up at a polling station - i live in a very small town)

  welcome sabrina from a fellow newbie( 4 days old).

  i agree with you that when you are brought up as a jw that it is always in the back of your mind, sometimes in the front.

  you can take the girl out of the kingdom hall but you can't take the kingdom hall out of the girl, i fear.

  i still feel bad (4 1/2 years down the line) about even looking at these websites and would hate my family who are still dubs to know that i do.

  but they seem nice people here on jwd.

  a cousin of mine was married to a brother at seventeen for two years.

  they both pioneered and were, evidently, a happy spiritual couple.. my cousin realised that she had made a huge mistake marrying this brother, as they both were hormonally charged teenagers who had followed paul's advice to get married if they could not go without sex.

  she just did not love him any more and she felt trapped by the jw stance on divorce.. this was her escape plan:.

  i never thought that i could be more disallusined by the jw's but this subject is such an eye-opener to me.

  it just shows that the organisation as so superficial and worldly.

  if brothers and sisters really believed that jehovah was judging them and not just the elders then i cannot think that they would resort to such machinations.

  does anyone really believe or does it just make them feel special to be a member of an exclusive club.

  that reminds me of a time when i was much younger and i got into a compromising situation with a brother.( although we stopped well short of full sex)

  feeling guilty, i immediately informed the po by phone. he asked me in intimate detail what had occurred even asking me if the brother had ejaculated.

  i was horrified.

  when i was divorced i also had to beg my ex for a confession of adultery so that i could get a scriptural divorce even though i knew that he had been unfaithful and he had physically and emotionally abused me. i think that he really enjoyed the year and a half that he kept me dangling until he got bored and admitted to many more counts than i had realised.

  do you think so? i was always led to believe that a sin was a sin was a sin.

  deliberately lying would be just as bad as adultery (and if my cousin was totally honest about her motives, not half as much fun)

  i thought that the only distinction as far as sin was concerned was that there were certain ones (i never knew what they actually were) that were unforgivable, sinning against the holy spirit.

  for an oldie i'd pick audrey hepburn singing moon river ... mmnnnn, i never get tired of that.. currently i'm listening to norah jones an aweful lot.

  she is very easy on the ears and is my "audible-heaven" right now.. so who's voice makes you 'melt' ?

  i have to agree with my gran and say nat king cole

  listening to him is like drowning in sweet, melted chocolate. (how you'd expect it to be, though, not actually how it would be, because it would actually be quite horrid)
