i just wanted to introduce myself.
i grew up as a witness in the 50's but found that there were to many issues that i could not resolve without going "outside" to investigate.
i have never returned and have no desire to, however, about two years ago i discovered h20 and have been participating there every since.

i suppose we all think of ourselves as unique and we are in so many ways.
what i fail to realize, i guess, is that we are far more alike than unique.
every now and then i will reveal some little fear or quirk or dream that i have only to find out that someone else has experienced the same thing!
Frenchy,
I think divine assistance comes in many different ways. For the most part it is recognized after the fact by those that believe their prayers have been answered whether it is pneumanistic or phenomenal. The unbeliever will chock it up to coincidence or happy accident or some other humanistic explanation. I'm impressed when highly educated people who know what statistical probabilities are all about and still acknowledge that they are the recipiants of God's favor in small and big ways.
Miricals are of various magnitudes. Your hypothesis is mostly correct, with the exception that if nothing happens, it is nothing as per our perception. It may be otherwise but we haven't recognized it....yet!
my humble opinion

this is my first time posting.
i have been a loyal servant for over 25 years.
2 years ago my "elder" husband announced that he would never attend another meeting.
Dear Red,
It seems to me you may be confusing spiritual, relgious and social. I could be wrong, but from my experiance in the past the word spiritual was an adjective for almost everything. Certainly dispair is a want for something comforting, but exactly what? You can be and become as spiritual as you aspire without the "leadership" of your spouse, and you can be as religious (attending meetings, observing rituals, etc) without but it is likely you want companionship in these activities (the social security).
What are you really missing?

Sorry Witing,
I can be a little circumspect in my comments sometimes. It seems to me from my experiance that not only are we as individuals very much alike as Frenchy stated, but as religions, we are much more alike than different. We may think we are "special" be it doctrins or organization, but in reality, we are very much alike. The answer to sincere prayer is answered in followers of all the other religions of the world. People of all religious traditions relate the same pneumenal experiances and are convinced that they are getting guidance and confirmation of the validity of their belief system. Little do they know that they share that experiance with billions of others who worship differently, even call god by a different name(s).
To be frank I think two things are going on. One, the prayers are being answered and two much of what is thought of as an answer is the power of the human psyche.
BTW, I have been enjoying your comments at H20.
warm regards,

Sorry, I can be a little circumspect sometimes in my comments. Having been out of the "truth" for forty years and familiarized myself with many of the worlds religions, I am struck by how "un-unique" they are. Most all seem to think they have something no one else has and the witnesses are no exception. As to recieving answers from each one's god, no difference again. I certainly have had my share of pneumenal experiances and what seemed to be direct results of earnest beseaching. Does this authenticate my choice of a religion? Not necessarily, but it does say something about the human psyche and how powerful the concept of "faith" is.
warm regard Carmel
btw Waiting, I enjoy your comments here and on H20

Its interesting to note that people all over the world in many religious traditions recieve the same "answers" so one has to ask if it is "Jehovah" that is answering!

i've picked up a little about each of us on the db, but we're a reclusive little group, aren't we?.
well, my picture won't be going up any time soon, but i'll put out some personal information and hopefully others will too.
makes chatting more fun, don't you think?.
Hi all! I just posted for the first time over on "Making Friends" then found this thread where you are all describing yourselves.
I live in Northern Israel but was formerly an Alaskan for twenty years. I grew up in a Witness family but decided at age 15 to seek answers outside the constraints of the Society.
This is one of the better forums for JWs where you seem to be able to be frank and friendly without fear. I enjoy discussing everything but do not like to "argue" about doctrine. I have found my home in terms of religion and have no desire to change others minds unless invited. Good fellowship is more rewarding.

It is not a site that engenders friendships and fellowship with so much hostility from a few that have strong feelings about their Witness experiance. I will be rigth up front with all of you. I am not intersted in attracting you away from your beliefs or "stumbling" anyone. I enjoy discussion matters of faith in a collegial and friendly atmosphere and with those that are open minded.
This site seems to be one where active witnesses can and do open up and express themselves honestly and with conviction. I hope it remains this way without a crusader coming to try to "win you to Jesus" or kill your enthusiasm for belief in God.
After many years of searching for a replacement for the WTBTS if feel I have succeeded. Those of you that are leaving or are considering it but feel the claims that "there is nowhere to go" I would be happy to share my spiritual journey, but not on the board here as my motive is to be of help rather than to look for potential converts.
Cheers Carmel
