I was reading the Nov. 22nd Awake "Who will feed the cities?". On page 14 a german brother relates an experience of coming into the wts. 2 witnesses were at his door and asked him "did you know that the year 1914 was a very special year according to the bible?". He was dumfounded. He asked himself how could they claim that the bible long ago pointed to 1914 as a marked year? After studying he came to this conclusion: bible prophecy clearly indicates that gods messianic kingdom was installed in 1914.

Now I am no bible expert. But I do know there is no mention of 1914 in the bible. I have seen much debate on the 607 date here on this board. I have never seen it explained clearly. I also doubt there are many witnesses who can even explain the 607 relationship to the bible.

Are there any apologists here who can CLEARLY explain how the bible pointed to 1914?

i am so sick of witnesses reserving catchphrases for themselves.. talking to my wifes mother today she kept referring to "the friends".

"the friends came over today, we went to lunch with the friends".

well if they are "the friends", then what the hell are everyone else?

By the way, one of "the friends" recently did a friendly thing. Their cat was pregnant and they didnt want to deal with it anymore. So they dumped it off on my MIL. It just had 2 kittens and 1 died. Now shes stuck feeding it, has a kitten to take care of, and the cat is now spraying all over the house. I told her they should at least pay to have it fixed so it doesnt spray. She didnt seem to optomistic they would even do that.

These are some great "friends".

And how about refering to everyone as "brother johnson" or "sister smith"? Black people have been calling each other brother and sister for a long time regardless of religion thats not exclusive to dubs. I am going to start refering to all my friends as "brother and sister".

Talking to my wifes mother today she kept referring to "the friends". "The friends came over today, we went to lunch with the friends". Well if they are "the friends", then what the hell are everyone else? What would you call a friend if they werent a witness? Or is it not possible to be a friend if you arent. And if only witnesses are friends, what is everyone else? An enemy?

Also calling their faith "the truth". I find it very annoying because that implies everything else is untrue.

So next time she comes over, I am going to make references to "the friends" when refering to my friends. When she says something im just going to say that they are my friends, so I can refer to them as the friends. They dont hold a copyright on that term.

Maybe I will talk about "the truth" in reference to my athiesm. I think this could be really fun.

Why do YOU trust the bible?

for anyone here who still believes the bible is gods inspired word, why?

what research have you personally done to verify that all of the contents are true?

do you know who ultimately assembled the different books to make the bible?

The idea that the earth is round is a fairly easy conclusion to come to for an astronomer or deep thinkers. Look at the sun, look at the moon. They are both round. Then think of the problems that would arise if the world were flat. To someone who understands how nature works it could easily be deduced that the world was round. If I remember correctly, it was the chruch that maintained the earth was flat and condemned those who thought otherwise. Why would god send some people the messages that the earth was round and others the message it was flat?

Supposedly the prophecies came from god through man. Well the assertion that the bible is true because the scrolls said the world was round is ridiculous. How about a real prophecy from god? If the prophecy predicted the exact population of the world on a certain year, or something extraordinary like that, I would believe. Common sense does not equal prophecy.

Is it proper for a Christian to carry mace?

my wifes dillusional mother has decided to carry mace for protection against her alleged stalker.

i wont even get into that craziness but i was just wondering if the wts has ever said anything against mace.

i realize its not deadly but neither are stun guns and i doubt they are ok. any thoughts?

2006 Yeartext: Obey!

the examining the scriptures daily 2006 has been released.

the jw rites of surprise and expectation over the new year's text are now at a fever pitch.

it seems that the theme "godly obedience" was such a hit at the 2005 district conventions, that the governing body has served up an extra helping.

did you ever feel bad for your kids that they couldnt celebrate holidays, birthdays, salute the flag, etc.

i am sure looking back now it must hurt somewhat and maybe you feel bad, but did you ever feel bad when you believd it was the true religion?
