Birthday celebrations and customs - Are they for Christians?

i sent my birthday document (http://thebentinel.com/jw-birthdays.html) to a poster here that is at the very least a jw-sympathizer, if not a full-blown jw.

the response i got back indicated that my reasoning on it was seriously flawed and essentially any idiot with a passing knowledge of scripture and history can tell that birthdays are not something christians should celebrate.. of course, if you're not a bible-believer or a god-believer, you couldn't care less about pagan origins and all that.

but let's keep this conversation on the 'appropriate for christians' vein.

dfed you didnt get the piont, the piont was that makeup is mentioned twice in the bible (just like birthdays) and both times it was on evil people who bad things happened to just like birthdays) and the point is exactly what you said tht the fds DONT say thats wrong so why should they say birthdays is wrong?

tho on the other hand my dad came back with that one by saying jobs daughter wore makeup in fact oneof their names means 'madeup eyes' apparently! he also made me read the reasoning book on how early christians and jesus did not celebrate their birthdays (coz i was saying about wedding rings/veils being pagan) and his point was that today the early christians DID NOT celebrate birthdays but there is nothing in history to say that they didnt wear rings/veils

i'd love to nswer him back, what is the answer?

ok, if you had to choose between looks and personality, which wins?

guys: if a girl is only mediocre in the looks department but is absolutely fab-u-lous in the personality dept...........which is more important to you?

or are they equally important?

Does a person know if he has been saved?

back in the days (sometime around 2003) a co informed our congregation that many publishers were being asked by householders if they 'are saved' and he told us to say, "i am in a saved 'condition'".

we can only be sure we are saved when armageddon has passed and we are still alive on earth.

i thought the whole thing was bizzare because from what i had read in the bible the early christians knew they were saved but here was a representative of the watchtower corporation telling publishers to say we were in a saved 'condition'.

i think you cant get away from the scriptures in the bible that talk about being saved, guess thats why born agains go on about it so much,

i remember doing a demo from the k ministry that the householder asked 'was i saved' and i said 'if you mean do i believe that jesus is my savior then yes i do but i also think that i have to prove myself till the time i am judged (he who endures to the end is the one that will be saved)

now i dont know what the hell to think!!

why just because i am dfed (march) can my family and all the friends ive ever known tell me i am dead to them?.

why have i missed two important family weddings and been told i ruined them coz everyone was upset?.

why if ihave tried to please them and tried once to get reinstated and now finally felt i have to be true to myself have i caused such pain all over again?.

i agree with ballistic i think looks are what attracts u to a person, but i know so many good looking guys who 'know it' and theres nothing worse in being goodlooking and knowing it, i think it instantly makes you unattrative!

so i guess personality is more important,m

D'Fing and Love

i once talked to a jw about disfellowshipping and was curious to how can this be showing a christly love when you all out turn your back on them.

he gave me an answer about rightousness and unrightrousness having no fellowship (which is biblical) but it didnt make sense to me.

didnt seem applicable in many ways.

bythesea im sorry for your siruation, that is very cruel but you are right the hurt can last a lifetime,

i have took away my ill aging parents happiness in the last years of life i got dfed for texting a guy that i couldnt see ghim anymore!! they said i should not of had a phone coz i knew he text me before, but i swear i said no!! i can get a scripitual divorce for twenty seconds of touching NOTHING ELSE it is a joke!!!!

dfing has destroyed me and my family i have just posted about this as it hurts me so much!

anewme you are wrong if they reinstate you it is a joke you said you were not attending all the meetings so how on earth can you even be putting your letter in???

you say dfing is the last resort well for me it certainly was not!

also you say : 'quit sinning =be welcomed back into the flock,' what a load of crap, no its 'quit sinning, but hey spend 12 months coming to ALL the meetings being stripped of your huminity go before 3 men and only then may you MAYBE be welcomed back, u seem to have a good releationship with your new po are you sure he doesnt fancy you as i have never known of such nice treatment!

im sorry anewme to go on, im just pretty bitter at the mo, if you think attending the meetings means you will come close to jehovah then i wish you well.

i finally told my dad i wanted my boyfriend who has stuck by me thru so much, and i even said wed marry and then id get reinstated and he said he wouldnt want to have anythin to do with a boy who has wrecked my marriage (he didnt it was pretty dead anyway!)

i told them jesus would not be this cruel, and my dad just trys to help me by printing out imfo about any questions i have, my dad has found out he has two tumours and is going in hospital in january, i really dont want to cause him any pain but i have stopped going to the meetings which hurts cause im ruining my months of trying for reinstatement,

im sorry to go on AGAIN but ive just come off the phone and after making all my stands to my dad my mum just told me how the only thing i can do is go to all the meetings its 'the ONLY way to return to jehovah' why do they not listen to what i say?

why if i say thats it, the bf is living with me would i have to lose them (and they veiw it as achoice between him and them!)

why do i bascally have two choices 1 to be with the bf and destroy them and have all contact cut off when my dads ill? and 2 go to all the meetings lose the bf but have the love of my family again

AND WHY DO THEY SAY I HAVE NO CHOICE??

(sorry guys i just needed to let off steam!)
