Religion does attract those with mental problems. JWs are so hungry for new recruits, that they aren't worried about a little dementia in their Bible studies. I guess they figure Jah will take care of anybody truly nuts.

Gems from the August 15, 2011 WT
by Ultimate Reality inpdfs can be obtained at jw.org.... spiritual gem #1. perhaps witnesses should apply the standard the wt recommends for gathering information on the internet to wt publications; from page 4:.
(1) who published this.
material?

So much nicer when they don't have those annoying numbers out there increasing instead of decreasing. Pretty soon there won't be any hard information in any of the books or in the Watchtower articles....do they still publish the Watchtower? I can't remember. The new light scorched it out of my head.

Anyone know when the 2011 conventions begin?
by average joe ini am curious to know what books, teaching, new light etc the watchtower is going to come out with this year..

Pretty soon the whole thing will be a drama. With the lights turned down low, you won't be able to see all the devout JWs snoring away after lunch.

Its so embarrassing when those pesky dates don't add up right. Why, next time, he'll have to take a page from the WTS and get a lot more vague. He should also appoint a committee and stop fronting the organization so that there are other people to blame when it all goes wrong.

Aren't You Embarrassed That YOU Ever Believed Any Of The Watchtower Bullsh*t?
by minimus ini do think about that and i realize that i should've gotten out sooner.
( i stayed in longer for various reasons).
but the last few years i knew it was bullsh*t!

Yep. Now that I've been out for over ten years...I wonder what the heck I was thinking when I joined up. Its kind of amazing and humbling to realize that I was so suseptible to their tactics. There were things that bothered me from the beginning, but I ignored them. I think most of my problem was lack of self-confidence along with some serious fairytale thinking. Just didn't have the guts to properly question, as well as wanting the fantasy to be true.

"Neither be called leaders" vs "Obey your leaders"
by Bonnie_Clyde ini'm trying to harmonize matt.
23:10 with hebrews 13:17. any thoughts?
or is this a contradiction?.

Isn't this typical of the WTS, though? Do this, like this...then do the opposite. But somehow, through a lot of gobbledegook double talk, they rationalize the dichotomy and, voila, by the time they are done with their "explainations", the sheep are either asleep from boredom or so confused that they figure they are too stupid to understand these "deeper things".

attendance/baptisms ratio
by Dold Agenda inin sweden we are now checking the attendance/baptisms ratio at some conventions by simply divide the number of baptisms to the attendance number.. far ago in the 70-ies it was like 5% before 1975. last year we was around 0,55%.
(quite like the italy in fact ).
this year we have counted only 2 conventions this far.

Very interesting. I don't know the exact numbers for the Northeastern U.S. (where I am), but last I heard they have four congregations meeting at the KH I used to attend...and there were only two when I dropped out. So around here the numbers seem to be increasing. The new congregations are Chinese and Spanish. Don't know if these groups met elsewhere and were reassigned to this KH or if they are all new recruits. I didn't want to show too much interest, so I didn't ask.
I did notice that shortly before I left, it seemed like most of the baptisms were minor children of JWs with only a few adult Bible Studies. Have to wonder how long some of these kids were going to stay in. Its one thing to convince your 10 to 15 year old to get baptised, quite another for them to decide if that's the lifestyle they truly want for themselves...and most can't know that as kids. For all that the JWs talk about not doing something just because you were raised in it (when they are speaking to those in other religions), they certainly expect that from their own children. Kind of funny in a sad sort of way.

Notes to give someone on new generation...fact check and advice...
by notverylikely inthese are my notes on the new generation teaching i am preparing to give to someone.
if anyone here wouldn't mind reading over them and giving them a quick fact check, i would appreciate it.
right now these are just rough talking points for me.

The sad fact is that until a person is questioning for themselves, they won't want to hear any "evidence" that what they believe is a bunch of crap. The WTS is all about suppressing, denying and ignoring inconvenient little things like facts and reality. It becomes and exercise in frustration.

JW Home study
by wiser incan anyone tell me how long the jw homestudy lasts.
we are already going on a year and a half, and thank god i have not been converted yet.
i am sick of hearing their version of the bible.
-

They will study with you as long as they can. Those kind of long-term bible studies are hard to come by and they won't want to give you up easily. If you don't believe it, don't want to join, and are fed up, end it.

Karma's a bitch
by keyser soze ini recently found out something interesting about an elder from my former congregation.
this guy was a former bethelite, and very much a company man.
a friend of mine switched congs because he believed(and rightly so) that this elder had it in for him.

I knew someone who's ex was an elder who did this too. They apparently think themselves exempt from the "rules" they are happy to enforce for everbody else. What's sad is that most JWs look at a situation like this and feel it justifies their faith that Jevhover will expose these things "in his own time".
