Am I the only one ...

it seems that the jw, along w/ other stuff, has led me to a solitary position in life ... how about you ... is that why you are here?

I have trouble making local friends. I have none here...only acquaintances. Part of this is because of being a JW for so long and not wanting to involve myself with people outside of the org. Part is working for my father (thereby being viewed as managment), so there is a barrier between myself and co-workers. Part is that I've become something of a control freak with my private life. I want to do what I want to do when I want to do it...no pressure, no hassles....it is a rather isolated existence.

I've been tossing around ideas on how to change things, but so far it's easier to continue as I am. LOL I'm lazy, I admit it.

Depends on my mood. On somedays I get all hurt and weepy, other days I'll engage..."En garde!"

Mostly I hate confrontation.

Field Service is a Farce

i touch on this subject in another post but i felt the need to take it further...back in the day jw's went out in fs but i don't know about today.... i live in a big city....the territory my congregation has is small because there are so many cong.

here.. our bookstudy only had maybe four blocks at the most to work.

my ex husband and i would go to the meetings and hear talk about fs and all the wonderful and experiences and the joy oh joy in being out in the ministry.

I've only been in two congregations, but there was a marked difference between the two as far as field service went. I think how a congregation views service depends a lot on the PO.

In the IL congregation we had a PO and wife who did the driving around thing a lot. There was also the habit of taking a long break at about 10:00 or 10:30 in the morning. His wife was known for meeting for service and then often having to go home to get something she forgot...or even not being ready on time to meet for service so that her husband had to go back to the house to pick her up before heading out. This wasn't such a big deal in IL because their house wasn't far from the KH, but I heard from a friend who visited them in WA, that they live quite a distance from the KH there and she was still pulling that stuff. Hours of wasted time with a return visit or quick magazine placement made to start their time so that they could count all the unnecessary driving as service.

When I got here, I noticed that there was less pointless driving around and much shorter breaks...at least during the week. When a new PO was appointed, the breaks got longer. I remember going out with them one day and when we stopped for a break, they ordered a full breakfast! We didn't get out of there for at least 45 min. LOL

I add my thanks too, blondie. What scares me is that I read this stuff and can recall exactly how I suspended reason back when I was in. I would have imparted the best possible motive to the WTS for the advice given and probably would have tried my best to carry it out. Going over this material even here, my mind almost splits into two halves...one side looking at this like the good little dub I used to be, remembering the mindset, and one side noting the underlined items, reading your commentary, and being appalled at the whole thing.

I've come to the conclusion that I am way, way too submissive and need to figure out how to change that aspect of my personality.

Yup. Not to blame it all on JW stuff, but I think it played a part.

I seem to be in the same state of mind wanderlustguy is. Although at this point in my life, I'm not sure if I'll ever be okay enough with myself to be with someone else. I'm mostly okay with it. My ex-husband taught me that there are worse things than being alone.

I'm glad they found her out. Of course, her litigious history was very suspicious right from the get go.

I once worked in the same office as a guy who's main goal in life was to win a really big lawsuit so he could stop pretending to work once and for all. I don't think he was a con artist like this woman, but I know he was always on the look out for an opportunity to sue. In the year I knew him he filed two traffic related suits. Because both times it was determined that he was partially at fault, I think the settlements were only a couple thousand dollars in total. It's too bad he spent so much time looking for the big score instead of putting some of that energy into a real job.

Some of those are unbelievable!

General B.O. problems and keeping yourself clean during your period? That's a local need to be addressed? Must have been lots o' smelly brothers and sisters in that congregation, sweet tee. Sheesh! I hope whoever put that forth as a topic had to present it himself and didn't shove it off on someone else. LMAO

I'm cracking up at Soledad's list there too. What a riot! I can't remember any local needs talks that were as interesting as those.
